  1. I was surprised when my husband wanted to go to a local park for the city band concert. This is not his favorite type of music. It was a beautiful evening for a concert. The mosquitoes were not bad either. We are so blessed to have so many types of concerts for these beautiful summer evenings. How wonderful of God to give us the gift of music. It fills so many needs, whether as lament, thanksgiving, love, worship or joy etc. It brings people together in a special way.

Isn’t it interesting how many contestants, in the music shows and stars, got their start in churches? I wonder how much that will change in the future?

  2. We’ve been without power for 8 hours now – husband is off to get a generator. Sigh.

The pool might be my “shower” today. I’m not sure how much it cooled off with the rain last night though… Glad I don’t have to work today.

  4. Morning! It’s hotter than blue blazes here…what does that mean anyway…my Mom uses this phrase. I think it means it is HOT!!

We all hold our breath when it is this hot,dry and a tad bit windy. Smaller fires broke out yesterday and the firefighters we right on it but one was rather close…ugh!

Busy around here and first born daughter took me up into the mountains yesterday. It was a lovely day and we got to visit our friends in St Elmo. They are selling their B&B so if you know of someone in the market to buy the most amazingly built home…I got their number! Ghost Town Guest House…truly an oasis…

  5. mumsee, I thought it was me. I paused to respond to a text about a story I’m doing today and when I came back to the thread (which I’d been scrolling through) I thought, hmmm, I thought I’d already read that and scrolled down, but I guess not?

Having a slow morning today, had a dream that was vague and can only remember pieces of it, but it somehow left me unsettled about how strange life (and the future, whatever it may hold) sometimes feels for me now.

I found Mark 9:24: Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

  6. I learned something new today. My dad started caddying down at the Riviera when he was thirteen. I knew that. One day, a guy he was caddying for started belting out song, continuing through out the day. One of his co golfers turned to my dad and asked if he knew who that was. Nope. It is John Charles Thomas! Dad acted like of course he knew him and at the end of the day, went home where my grandmother asked who he caddied for. John Charles Thomas. She was thrilled and explained he was her favorite singer! But I knew that. What I did not know but do now: the caddies were encouraged to play golf in the evenings so they understood the course, and they got to play for free. My dad took along a couple of guys to keep an eye on the ball for him: my brothers!

  8. NJ – “Hotter than blue blazes” comes from the fact that blue flame is the hottest. So the saying means that it is hotter than the hottest flame.

  9. That makes sense Peter…thanks! And it is indeed continuing to be that hot around here. We need to get through the next couple of days with this sweltering heat.

  10. We took a day trip up to Chattanooga to revisit old stomping grounds from when son got started on this long academic trek. The weather was perfect. We ended our time there at the giant used bookstore, McKay’s. We now own a lot of used movie dvds.
