Handyman was here. He has now returned to town to get a replacement for the strip between the new floor and ceiling that was ruined when he tried to cut it with his saw. Not sure what happened there. He had some other samples, but none fit in as well, so off he went.
We will miss our usual jam so he can continue to work until the floor is finished. New stove fan will wait until an electrician comes. Always something with these things. We have to wait for the countertops, too, and thus the sink that started everything. So, it goes. Small potatoes.
Good morning, all! I am normally up at five thirty so I can have my quiet time, prepare breakfast for all, see to my dad. But this morning? I woke up at six fifty. No sound of husband preparing my dad’s food. They were both sound asleep in the living room.
I was up early, too, around 5:30. It must be excitement is in the air. Last night I fell asleep on the couch. Got up around 11 p.m. and ended up watching the funeral service for a 23 y/o church member who committed suicide 5 years ago. The pastor who baptized me did the service. It is the best I have ever heard considering the overwhelming circumstances. My dog walking friend had sent the memory post over to me. So I will fade fast today.
If anyone is looking for a new laundry product that is free of the bad stuff and smells really fresh based on essential oils, I tried this and love it!
It was “Viva Italia!” day covering a large reception for the port visit of Amerigo Vespucci, a 92-year-old tall ship stopping here for several days on its 2023-25 world tour.
Long ceremony, lots of handsome Italian sailors, bands, pomp-and-circumstance, flag raisings, national songs, Italian and LA dignitaries and government officials including their minister of defense; most remarks were in Italian (we all had little translation gadgets with earpieces to follow along).
And it wouldn’t be an Italian event without the formal presentation and unveiling of a (new) naked bronze statue.
Everyone can get up when they want to as far as I am concerned. Some people seem to think getting up early is superior. I like mornings, but that is not true of everyone. As long as someone is not slacking, they can sleep in as long as they want to. Teens usually do like sleeping later.
The floor is finished. I was not thrilled with some of the trim, but my husband was okay with it. The handyman will have to return someday to finish with the stove fan. That will have to be after whenever the electrician can get here. He will also have to return to put in the new countertops and the sink. I will be so glad when it is all finished. I do like the floor and am grateful it is finished.
I don’t care either. I just like to torment a few brothers on here. Come to think of it, my bio brothers say I have always tormented them, good little sister that I am.
I just tell daughter she should not agree to morning appointments if she is not going to show up! She told her worker today that she will only work mornings. Kind of an odd decision for somebody who generally sleeps until eleven or one in the afternoon.
I lean toward being a bit of a night owl, in bed between 11 and midnight (but I read a bit after that); up usually around 7 or 7:30 or 8 … But our work day starts late (9 a.m.).
Walked Abby a while ago and now that it’s dark the random fireworks are starting. Tomorrow will be the big day.
Our temps aren’t too warm on the coast lately (70s?) but our humidity must be high.
The early bird gets first. Couldn’t sleep so I got up at 5:30. I’ll regret it later.

Morning!
Home improvements seem to never be easy. We are taking a break on those this summer and may replace the deck in the Fall. Always something.

Nice to hear I’m not the only one up at the crack of dawn.
Another hour would have been nice.

The only person I know who sleeps that late is twenty two daughter. She missed the regularly scheduled coffee with dad this morning at nine thirty.

I thought they’d provided some nice seat cushions for us all, sitting out on wooden folding chairs at the very end of the pier.
Turns out they were nice, cloth gift bags (with the handles folded under.)
But no wonder it was so uncomfortable.
Sitting on a bag filled with a cap and lapel pin and collared shirt and other various tokens of the ship visit became weirdly painful after an hour.
These aren’t very good cushions, I thought.
Can’t take me anywhere.
