I am sorry, too, to hear about your latest setback, AJ. How difficult this life can be!
It is wise to provide information for those who may have to deal with things should we be incapacitated or pass away. I sure appreciated that from my parents. Even though my mom was still living after my dad passed away, she was not capable of handling in the immediate aftermath. It is good to remind more than one child of where things are, too.
Storms will be passing through today. I am so grateful my daughter had, relatively, good weather for her outdoor grad party. Outdoor parties are always iffy in MN. They are so nice when possible.
Such excitement in Atlanta yesterday. To big crime situations. A hijacked Marta bus which I am posting the video of because it truly is amazing and worth a quick watch. It was finally stopped not too far from where we live (maybe 20 min.). As Art left this morning, I told him not to get in any tangles with Marta buses.
She likes to take her catnip pillow (the pink thing) into her tunnel and lurk. If the other cats walk by, she pops out and whacks them. Then she runs away. 😆
I have been mowing before we have the orange alert for bad air this afternoon. I prayed for AJ and others while mowing. I still have one more section to do after it soon turns shady there. Super glad to get it done early!
Cats getting high and dangerous, crazy bus hijackings. I watched the clip and thought hey, I know where Stone Mountain (area) is thanks to Janice 🙂 That poor bus driver needs some trauma leave to get over that.
Busy day back to work for me, port presser & virtual California transportation department rollout for plans to add bike lanes to one of our key roadways (already crowded) in and out of town.
Meanwhile, over at Chad Bird this morning, preaching!
Imagine parents seeing their child playing on a busy street, saying, “Everything is OK.” Or a doctor finding cancer in a patient, saying, “That’s fine.” Or people watching a blind man walk toward the edge of a cliff, saying, “He will be safe.”
That, in essence, is what God accused the false prophets of Jeremiah’s day of saying.
These prophets “say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No disaster shall come upon you’” (Jer. 23:17).
They comforted the unrepentant. They affirmed evil.
Instead of preaching the law and calling sinners to repentance, they said, “Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re good.”
Claiming to speak for heaven, they preached for hell.
None of us likes correction. But we need it. We need to hear the stern and clear Word of God that shows us our sins, points out God’s threat to punish evildoers, and calls us to repent.
This is neither an easy thing to preach nor an easy thing to hear, but the truth must be spoken.
God save us from churches that do not preach the law, and do not call us to repent!
God also save us from churches that do not follow this preaching of the law with the proclamation of the Good News of forgiveness and life in Jesus.
It ultimately does no good to realize we are sinners and we have done wrong if that is the end of the proclamation.
Telling us, “Do better!” will not help.
Telling us, “Improve your life!” will not help.
What we need is the sweet, consoling, life-giving Gospel preached into our ears.
That Gospel will generate repentance. That Gospel will enliven us. That Gospel will pour Jesus into us so that we stand forgiven, righteous, and holy in him.
Preach the law? Yes.
Preach the Gospel? A thousand times, Yes!
That Good News is our hope because it gives us Jesus, who forgives, renews, and leads us to a life pleasing to him.
Good afternoon, all, on this beautiful sunny afternoon. We went to Winchester again this morning to visit the brothers. In the car yesterday, my dad mentioned that he thought he was dreaming. It was a very odd visit. But today he wanted to go again. This time he was completely awake and really enjoyed the visit. My brothers had seen the different dads but it was interesting for the sister in laws who had heard but not seen so much. I left him with them all while son and I went for a short hour hike on the discovery trail. Very pleasant.
“Jaws” is actually well done – some good humor in it, believe it or not, some much needed comedy relief. And the movie score is so fitting, we have a pops orchestra here that focuses on film scores, this one included.
I mean, who doesn’t get a chill or two when hearing those opening notes?
I watched it when I was about five. My parents had gone to town and, against all rules, my brother turned the tv on. I was terrified of my closet and under the bed for years.
So today I had the two youngest grands for the first time in months. It was a shorter day as they were going camping this evening. We still had fun, but a quiet day. I visited my daughter a bit when I dropped them off. Then as I was leaving I asked what’s the rule, meaning don’t have too much fun.
Archie said, “Don’t invite Grandma Jo.” Time for me to leave. But it was a real comment. He wasn’t being funny. And I’m sure that it is something that he has heard.
I understand the sadness. I have heard things from grands that have hurt, too. Not often, thankfully. Children hear things, but don’t have the filter or wisdom of adults. They also do not always understand what is said in humor and what isn’t. Finally, they do not realize the hurt their words can bring. Relationships ebb and flow; children grow, and hearts can be healed. I hope you have healing, Jo, and the relationships become better.
Repenting and going through some steps because you were caught and have no choice, doesn’t seem to be real repentance to me. Not that I can judge anyone’s heart. I am just responding to a quick read of the article, Janice. I haven’t read his books. I would be skeptical myself.

Morning! You know growing up in southern Ohio we do tend to say “warsh” instead of “wash”…someone out there is saying “Whart ya up to today?”!!!
I have the house totally to myself this morning. Husband took both dogs up the Peak with a friend and the house is so quiet.
Little kitty (Gemma?) is wanting peace a quiet it seems up there! She is in her safe place!
Hoping you are feeling better this day AJ…praying for you.

Feeling sad about this, right when we are about to finish up his Bible study on Kingdom Authority. It is a really good and worthwhile study.

Amen (@1:46) — we need to hear both the law and gospel in every sermon.

Nice to hear, mumsee.
I think Gemma needs the Jaws soundtrack playing in the background.

I loved that piece from Chad Bird.
Mumsee, don’t be afraid to watch Jaws. It’s just a movie, and you are many miles from the nearest beach and shark! It is such a classic.

And I guess I love well-done scary movies (and despite the theme, very little blood to be seen).

That was a long time ago, I saw it on TV as a teen (probably years after it was made?) but watched it mainly because I liked Steve McQueen.

We saw Jaws in the drive-in (near where DJ lives) when I was 16-17.
I did NOT go back swimming in the ocean for probably 20 years.
Logically, I understood.
Emotionally . . . there weren’t any boats big enough for me!
Back in the band Dark Ages, when we’d begin playing the Jaws theme song, someone always screamed . . .
