  1. Corrupt judge Merchan knows this won’t stand on appeal if Trump is found guilty by this kangaroo court. Bit the point is and always has been simply to muddy him up.

“BREAKING: The idea that the jury can “mix and match” different crimes, each one proven with a completely different set of elements, flouts the Constitution’s Due Process clause. It is flagrantly unlawful under well-established precedent set by the United States Supreme Court. This is completely unorthodox and unprecedented.

No unanimity to reach a guilty verdict violates President Trump’s fundamental rights as a criminal defendant. The magnitude of the error and prejudice here should prompt a mistrial.”

  2. Since I apparently shared this on the wrong day’s thread yesterday I’ll repeat it here.

There is only one crime the jury can find Trump guilty of and they must be unanimous. That he falsified business records with the intent to commit another crime. They must be unanimous on that.

It is true that they don’t have to agree on what the other crime was, or even that he actually committed one. But they must agree that he falsified business records with the intent to commit another crime.

Here are the actual instructions to the jury. Instructions defining the crime begin on page 27. https://www.nycourts.gov/LegacyPDFS/press/PDFs/People%20v.%20DJT%20Jury%20Instructions%20and%20Charges%20FINAL%205-23-24.pdf

  3. I missed yesterday’s discussion until now. I think someone said that some of us don’t speak up in agreement with AJ because he’s already made the point so clearly. When we agree with him we might ought to register our agreement with him a little more.

I sometimes appear to be arguing against AJ, not because I completely disagree with him on the big picture, but because I think he’s repeated statements that are incomplete or missing context and actually weaken the argument as a whole. My hope is that we can hone our arguments to those that are completely factual and logical so they can’t be easily dismissed by others we might be trying to convince. When I think the argument is weak I’ll often say so. It doesn’t mean I disagree with the main point.

  4. Truthfully, the past election cycles have been very challenging for many of us who are conservative. I’ve said this before (but probably not recently), I agree with Trump on many of the issues; but I have deep concerns about his personal character.

Should he be elected, I will pray for him, that he has good people around him and will make wise decisions. Many of us have watched our country slide in directions we don’t agree with.

That said, my faith is in a sovereign God (not in politics or political leaders in a fallen world). And I suppose that’s why I am not as rattled as some by what I’m seeing.

As mumsee so wisely reminded us a few days ago, our trust is not found in chariots and horses.

“A corrupt judge in New York is about to convict and jail Trump for NOT violating federal campaign finance law, and Republican so-called “leaders” in Congress are nowhere to be found.

Where is Mitch McConnell? John Cornyn? John Thune?

They’re the first to find a microphone when Ukraine needs another billion dollars, but they can’t be bothered to comment on a Soviet show trial. Why is that?

Easy: they all support the Soviet attacks on the rule of law because they hate Trump. They want him convicted and they want him in jail. It’s that simple. It’s a shame none of them has the @#$%# to just admit it publicly.”

  6. “Knowledge of the Absurd – Judge Juan Merchan’s case against Trump.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley observes:”

One of the three crimes is so circular as to produce vertigo in the jury room,” George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley observes. “The prosecutors zapped a dead misdemeanor back into life by claiming a violation under New York’s election law 17-152. The argument is that the crime was committed to further another crime as an unlawful means to influence the election. However, that other crime can be the falsification of business records. So the jury (or some jurors, at least) could find that some documents were falsified as an unlawful means of falsifying other documents.”

“Because Merchan said jurors need not agree on which of these theories has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, the rationale for convicting him is apt to be muddled. ” The judge has ruled that the jury does not have to agree on what actually occurred in the case,” Turley says. “Merchan ruled that the government had vaguely referenced three possible crimes that constitute the ‘unlawful means’ used to influence the election: a federal election violation, the falsification of business records, and a tax violation. The jurors were told that they could split on what occurred, with four jurors accepting each of the three possible crimes in a 4-4-4 split. The court would still consider that a unanimous verdict so long as they agree that it was in furtherance of some crime.”

    The Reason concludes:

“Since the jurors do not have to agree on the nature of Trump’s “unlawful means,” Merchan’s instructions invite them to convict him based on a hodgepodge of three dubious theories. But if each of these theories is faulty, mixing them together cannot compensate for their weaknesses.”

“Great question Sean, I’d love to know. Mitch McConnell and the gang are just going to sit back and do nothing as our nation faces one of the most significant crisis in modern Political history.

The weaponization of our courts/ lawfare used to target President Trump has turned our nation into a banana republic. Also, it is exactly as it appears : election interference.

It’s shameful our leadership is out to lunch. Or maybe their inaction is exposing exactly how they feel about President Trump.”

  8. AJ – Last night you asked why I (and I think this includes DJ) do not comment on the same issues you post here, insinuating that we don’t care. A thought came to me, but was not more fully formed until I thought about it more this morning.

Although we on this blog may overlap in the issues that we focus on in our comments, we each have certain issues that tend to get our attention and focus more than others. For example, Debra writes about her concern over the tendency for us to jump into wars, and Janice often keeps us updated on some things that are going on in Atlanta, while you have your own focus. If we were all piling on the same matters and issues, it would be redundant and boring.

As for me, I tend to share pieces that question what some on the right may say about various news stories. That is not because I am on the left, but because I think it is important for us to read and consider differing views, to understand the other views and/or to see how they may offer a different perspective of an issue than our preferred sources are telling us.

  9. DJ,

Trump is being railroaded by a corrupt judge who disallowed his defense to defend him to a clearly partisan jury. It’s NYC.

    Guilty on all counts.

  10. This farce won’t stand on appeal, but that won’t matter to the biased, Trump hating media.

It’s a joke, and the majority of people see it according to polls.

“BREAKING: A Manhattan jury has found Trump guilty on all counts.

We knew from the start this was the most likely outcome. This case was engineered for years, from the very top of the Democrat apparatus, to bring down Trump, using a rigged law in a rigged courtroom with a rigged jury.

Trump will appeal and this will, eventually, be overturned, but this is a scar on our nation. For today, at least, this country looks more like Venezuela or China or Russia than the United States of America.

Now, we must be ready to maintain our resolve. There will be an unprecedented push to say that Trump CANNOT be allowed to win, that we CANNOT elect a convicted felon.

Don’t give in. They did this because they are desperate. They will lose, and they will pay.”

Corrupt Merchan and his family just got rich off this farce, paid for by Democrat politicians.

  12. A time to remember that Joseph story, “You meant it for evil, but God . . .”

A time to rejoice in what God alone can do and praise Him for ultimately being in control. Waiting to see what God will do . . . perhaps He will redeem this mess in somef unforeseen way. I do know a lot of eyes have been opening and seeing what they have been blinded to for so long.

You all would be amazed to see the beautiful mix of people in my Southern Baptist church. I never expected a Sunday morning to be such a colorful experience. It looks a lot like heaven, I expect.

  14. It ends well for those who endure to the end. Until then, we fight the good fight knowing that we are not really wrestling with each other, but through the Holy Spirit, we are wrestling against powers and principalities and rulers of the high places. God has given us plenty of work to do and many gifts to accomplish the tasks.
