  2. Republicans do have to be wise as serpents, gentle as doves especially when it comes to the abortion discussion. Too often they have not thought things through and have no idea how to respond. That includes Trump.

In the long run, I don’t think the issue is a state’s rights issue any more than slavery is. In the short run, that is where we are. When Haley stated as such, she was criticized.

To cave to the idea that the product of rape or incest should be killed is plain wrong. To have compassion on the victim is something we should all have. Learning to speak to the issue is paramount.

To recognize there are difficult cases is wise. We have been told for decades it is about a woman’s life, but when abortion is limited to saving a woman’s life, suddenly it is not about that. Spokespeople for abortion are very clever in how they phrase things. For example, one of the latest outcries claimed a woman’s health was in terrible danger, but if you looked at what was actually going on, it was clear the real issue was that the baby was imperfect.

I have watched this issue for decades and know the double speak and ways that words are twisted. A ‘woman’s health and life’ became her comfort and convenience. Every push back is valuable, in that it helps people see that the world is not going to end. Minds can be changed. Those determined will seldom change their minds, but they are not the majority either.

Recently, I heard a large portion of certain men want abortion to be legal. Well, sure. All the better to have all the sex you want with no ramifications to you (other than your offspring dying). The woman (once she is pregnant) is affected no matter what she does.

Ultimately, minds and hearts have to be reached. Mail order abortions are huge now and will continue to grow. The sovereignty of God is the real issue. We all struggle with that when the rubber hits the road. and it is personal.

  3. Kathleena,

While I agree with you, the courts in many states have shot down prolife laws that do not account for rape, incest, and the health of the mother. That’s reality. Putting up laws that don’t account for these will end in failure. Again, it’s the pragmatic approach. It’s distasteful, but a pill we have to swallow.

    Michelle,

That’s what I’ve been saying for years. There are so many methods to prevent an unwanted pregnancy that are often ignored. The abortion industry loves that though. Birth control is Healthcare, abortion isn’t.

  4. Kathaleena @11:39, excellent thoughts and ones I’ve had on this issue as well, thank you.

Not so simple, as it turned out, once Roe was undone after, what, half a century in place?

Wisdom, clear thinking, understanding, gentleness, and compassion on the pro-life side are needed as the nation tries to make its way through this very confusing era.

Remember, too, that birth control methods were opposed for many years by conservatives and many in the church. I believe we’ve gotten past that, but it was part of the overall hurdle to these issues that had to be worked through.

The United States is not the New Creation. In a fallen world we all live in imperfect and pluralistic nations, some more imperfect and more diverse than others.
