Good morning, all. A beautiful spring day here with rain and snow. My dad is well. My exercise is done. Husband will be heading out for Boise and his medical appts soon. With time to visit grandchildren.
We were up early working on the main bathroom reno. Got the floor done and bead board up and primed on the wall area behind the toilet. We want to get the toilet in asap and then we can finish the vanity with care to details.
Went up to the hospital to visit my cousin (other cousin also came, we met up there as was the plan).
Cousin (D) seems to be doing OK, she does have a fractured rib & possibly bruising on the kidney from the fall she took Thursday night (she was carrying a very heavy bronze statue through her house! Statue broke, she said, and probably poked her good in her side as she & stature — which lost a hand — went down).
That was the biggest hospital I’ve ever, ever seen (B, other cousin, had warned me about that, he was up there on Friday) – Cedars-Sinai on Beverly Blvd — LA city, near an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood, West Hollywood, a lot of “Hollywood” history at the hospital — cousin B & I had lunch in the Ray Charles Cafeteria.
The hospital also had a “Shabbat Elevator,” first time I’d seen that (included a note on it that the elevator would stop automatically at each and every floor). I pretty much figured it out as Jews observe laws that forbid using cars, phones and other electronic kinds of things, but looked it up later:
A Shabbat elevator is an elevator which works in a special mode, operating automatically, to satisfy the Jewish law requiring Jews to abstain from operating electrical switches on Shabbat (the Sabbath). These are also known as Sabbath or Shabbos elevators.
Abby was happy to see me, I had to make several errand stops on the way home so it was a long day.
A very close friend went to be with Jesus last night after suffering from cancer. Her husband passed that way last summer after rolling his lawn mower over and it landed on him. They leave 4 sons and many grandchildren. All the sons are wonderful Christians.
I have been on a shabby elevator but never a Shab elevator.
Son was at a conference yesterday to present a paper on a panel in Savannah. Today he participated in the Charleston Bridge Run. So funny that I called my Sunday school teacher’s wife and they, too, had done the Bridge Run this motning. If a person wants to run on something other than flat land around Charleston, the bridge is the onlu option.
Art brought home our completed tax return this evening. I thanked him. We had to pay the Feds more than we are getting back from the State.
Chamomile tea is putting me right to sleep. Have a good Sunday service!
On a lighter note, I saw this on FB today and wonder if Kare can verify:
The reason Canadians are so nice is easily explained. Once a year, on the sixth full moon, all Canadians gather together beneath the stars to perform a ritual that sucks out all their meannessand cruelty … and places it into Canada geese.
We arrived in Israel on Shabbat and were totally confused about the elevator. We thought we pushed our floor number, but it stopped at every floor as we went up.
Ah, we discovered the next day, the Sabbath.
Right beside the Shabbat elevator was a “normal” one for the tourists.
Art dropped me off at church and I got a ride home with someone in my Sunday school class. She was in her husband’s BIG truck. The neighbor’s on my street don’t drive anything like that. It was a little challege to get in and out though it had a pull down step.
Spring break took its toll on Sunday school attendance. We combined two classes and still had fewer than usual.
I purchased two air purifiers, and they arrived today. Now to figure out how to set them up. We need them with all the pollens in the air this spring..
Still working on the scholarship applications. I just got to read one from a girl I taught in kinder. She was that joyful little girl who always gave me hugs. What a delight. In her testimony she was so honest about her struggles. Then in one of her references they talked about the same joy and concern for others that I had seen in kinder. What a privilege to know a bit about her all grown up.
A perfect circle, Jo! What a treat. I am social media friends with a few Sunday school students, girls, that I co-taught. It is fun to keep track as they go through college. One told me in VBS that she had decided to follow Jesus. I was so touched. I co-taught with her mom so I was surprised she told me (maybe she had told her mom who had not shared with me, but I think mom would have told me).
I’ve never ridden in a Shabbat elevator, but when I was in college, my freshman year I had a job cleaning offices and classrooms in the evening. The main building we cleaned had ten stories, and one day I got off on the eighth or ninth floor as one of my colleagues was getting on with his buckets and mops and a vacuum. I held the door open for him to enter, and with my other hand I hit every button between our floor and the first floor.
He bodily threw me off before I got the last one or two. (No, he didn’t hurt me, and I deserved it.)
Good early afternoon! It is a lovely day in the neighborhood.

A local story about a dog that was shot twice has gotten some national attention:
~ Dog Suffers ‘Traumatic Brain Injury’ After Being Shot in the Face During Morning Walk, Owner Says
“He still shows nothing but unconditional love when we see him every single day by licking us, and wagging his tail,” Zeus’ owner said ~

I forgot to add the water to coffee machine this morning. Sigh.

Hahahaha! Peter!! Yeah, not a thing. Canadians can be just as mean as the next guy (to the south), especially lately.
But, those Canada geese are downright scary. Fun to watch with their little ones though.

Why don’t they have spring break for grown-up workers?
