Prayer Requests 3-30-24

Anyone have something to share?

The Burial of Jesus

38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

  1. Praying for NJ this morning, for encouragement and quick healing.

It is comforting that today we are remembering Jesus in the tomb, but we know tomorrow is coming, and he has gotten the victory now and forever! That is our victory too, even now when sometimes circumstances feel more like a tomb of fear or dread or anger or frustration. He has triumphed, and he takes us with him in his triumph!

  2. This one is a little complicated.

I grew up in Phoenix, lived there (with two years in the Kingman area as a teenager) until I went away to college when I was 22. But after my mom died (fall 2003), I didn’t have a place to stay in Arizona, and it became more expensive and more complicated to go, and so I haven’t visited in more than 20 years. My husband and I have talked about going together someday, but it’s unlikely he’ll ever be able to travel. (He hasn’t been more than half an hour from home since a health issue a year and a half ago. He gets out for a short walk most days, and to church most weeks, though he doesn’t always make it all the way through the service.)

Anyway, we decided that if I want to go (and I do), I need to go ahead and go. I tried to get a woman from my church (I issued an invitation generally, not one specific woman) as a travel companion, but so far without success. I’m still trying to find a Christian who can host me at the other end for at least some of the visit, and walk with me at least sometimes, because it’s safer and more pleasant to hike the desert with other people, and because hotels are expensive and I don’t like staying in one by myself. The trip is the last two weeks of April.

I’m also taking a few days in Sedona and Tucson (and in both places I have reserved a hotel room with two beds). Overall I’m really looking forward to the trip, but if you could pray that it will go well, that my husband would do well on his own for that time, and that I would indeed find walking companions and/or hosts for the time I’m there, that would be wonderful. A big part of my reason for the trip is taking photos of desert wildlife and desert scenery, and I want to be able to use my photos in my writing, but mostly it has just been way too long since this desert rat has spent time in the desert. (And if you happen to have Christian contacts in Arizona who would love to have someone to walk with, and/or would be willing to host a middle-aged woman who loves Arizona but hasn’t seen it lately, contact me!)

  4. I’m so glad they were able to pinpoint the problem and you’re getting out, NJ!  Husband had his gallbladder removed 3 days after he got out of the hospital with covid in 2021. No surgery is fun, but if you’re going to have to have one, this is probably one of the better ones to have. I was told it is one of the most common so surgeons have really perfected their methods.  We’ll certainly be praying for you now and also at the time of the surgery that all goes well.s

  7. Pray for peace worldwide tomorrow in God’s body of worshippers. May any pesons with plans to distract from Jesus find Him irresistible and change their heart’s desire to align with the Creator’s heart. May many be saved tomorrow, especially the loved ones of our blog family who are yet to be saved. I pray against a spirit of anger and revenge. May the sovereignty of God be witnessed in mighty and undeniable ways tomorrow. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
