  1. Those flowers do lift one up.  :) My mom never thought much of cut flowers, which was rather interesting, since she won awards for her flower arrangements. She started and ran her own greenhouse business. She preferred giving potted plants or trees as they had staying power. I think the short life of cut flowers speaks of love, however. There is a certain extravagance of them. All the options are lovely gifts. I never my mom cut flowers, however, except for her funeral.

  2. Kathaleena, I tend to agree with your mom, but also with you! Flowers are just so pretty.

We’re trying to plant more flowers that can be brought inside as a bouquet so we can enjoy them inside and out.

Husband has been ploughing for over 2 hours now. I should be able to get out of our yard soon – I hope. Then I get to navigate a few miles of unploughed road until I get to the highway. We got almost a foot of snow yesterday and overnight.

  3. Good Monday morning. A friend and I have a health screening today.

I receive more flowers these days from friends. Never from family. I love both. My father always planted dahlias for cut bouquets but that was one tradition my brother never kept although he prides himself in family tradition keeping.

  5. Oh, Jo, yes, I have been there. Stayed up nearly all night once with a broom stick to poke the reset button every (?) 3-5 minutes, whatever the timing was when it would stay off but then start screeching again. I don’t trust step stools anymore and didn’t want to lug the huge ladder in the house in the middle of the night.

Kathaleena, agree about cut flowers although — my mom had an abundance of flowers to spare in her large garden areas and she made the prettiest arrangements. She’d sometimes send one home with me when I visited for dinner and a dog walk every Sunday after moving out.

  6. So sorry to hear you encountered that deafening nuisance, Jo.

My friend and I did the Lifeline Screening tests this morning that check for several things not usually ordered from a doctor. I mostly wanted the carodid (sp?) artery check since my father’s were so blocked at age 74 that he had a fatal stroke. He did have adult onset diabetes so that probably contributed to his condition. My friend recently had some sickness and wanted to verify some lab work. It only took an hour. They are very efficientl set up with stations for each test (assembly line). If anything needs immediate attention they let people know while there. We each were told our results should be received in 7-10 days in the mail. Glad nothing deserved alerting us about it today.

  7. Good morning, all. Been a busy day around here. My dad was a late riser so needed to make him second breakfast. I made the first when I heard him puttering around in his room but when I went to check if he needed assistance, he had gone back to bed. Did give me time to get my exercise in before husband left for his rounds: a funeral, visit a couple of elderly couples, grocery shop if they need anything.

snow again but not much. Children got the deck cleared. Grandpa is back to playing cornhole so they clear the deck so the sun can dry it. Yesterday was busy. He asked if we would have room to take him to church. We did. He was surprised to see the great grandkids there and son out law.

When we got home, he ate lunch and played an hour and a half of cornhole. Late afternoon, as the children prepared to go back to mommy, little girl wanted to give great grandpa a hug goodbye. He welcomed her with his big smile and asked if she had enjoyed church that morning. She did. He said that was nice because it is a good church, at least the people are. Very friendly and nice. She agreed.

  8. Funny smoke alarm story:

We were visiting a church at Christmas time once when there was a beeping sound occasionally. The song leader thought it was feedback from the microphone, so he turned it off.

The sound continued. Then someone realized there was a candle lit on a table under a smoke alarm that was causing the ocasional beep, so he went and blew it out.

Suddenly, the alarm went off continuously. The smoke from the candle set it off.

  9. In my tiny 1920s Long Beach apartment there was a smoke alarm in the dining area but it was on the shared wall w/the doorway into the kitchen.

I could never cook without that thing blaring off and me having to grab a dishtowel to wave frantically in front of it so it would finally go off.

Someone, someday will come up with a better model.

  10. The one in our tiny hallway outside our tiny bathroom used to go off from steam buildup from a hot shower. We have not had that problem in some years. I think we take shorter showers or else the dectectors are more cued into true smoke from a flame.

  11. Daughter, mother of the younger twins, is dealing with COVID again, she suspects. No sense of smell or taste. She says the upside of not having those comes in changing poopy diapers.

  12. Hey all. I’m down for the count right now, stuck in bed again. So no new posts today, my apologies.

I could use prayer please, for strength and to be able to move and bend my left leg and knee.

    Thanks,

    Allen

  14. AJ, I am sorry to hear you are back in bed when you want to be doing more. I am thankful you are doing what you need to do to get better. Praying for any pain to lessen and weakness to evaporate and strength to return in abundance. May God grant you patience and endurance while this malady heals. Lifting you up with others in the power of Jesus’ name, Amen

  16. Dryer delivery fail!! They didn’t have the side vent prepared and they would not place it on the wooden pedestal. Said we would need a vent kit, and if the dryer was placed on the very sturdy pedestal it would void the warranty! We refused delivery, called Home Depot. Was told the delivery guys are not trained to hook up the dryer, they are not insured (!) to hook up appliances. All this is the exact opposite of what the sales person informed us of on the day of purchase. Husband gave the guys a nice tip and sent them on their way…not their fault…

Called Lowes. They will prepare the vent, no kit even exists, set the dryer on the pedestal and confirmed by LG that it does not void they warranty and will be delivered tomorrow…all this done over the phone!

And….Facebook is finally back online…have mercy!!

  17. Yikes, that’s a lot of confusion going on NJ!

Right hand, meet left hand …

So good of your husband to tip the guys caught in the middle — good for him. As you said, not their fault.

  19. I was surprised to find myself unable to use FB or Messenger on my phone earlier. Tried a bit later and all was well. Then I read online that it was happening to a whole lot of people. How soon we find ourselves dependent on these things.
