Prayer Requests 12-13-23

It’s Wednesday, so please remember to pray for Joanne and The Gambia.

Anyone else have something to share?

Psalm 137

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
    when we remembered Zion.
There on the poplars
    we hung our harps,
for there our captors asked us for songs,
    our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

How can we sing the songs of the Lord
    while in a foreign land?
If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
    my highest joy.

Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did
    on the day Jerusalem fell.
   “Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.

  1. Still have the motion sick feeling. I am barely in the normal range for my thyroid, so that may contribute. My eyes are just so different from each other. I will have my first recheck appointment today. It took me forever just to do my bible study this morning. Can’t imagine doing this for a whole week. Looking forward to be done with the process.

  2. Kathaleena, yes, that’s a hard period when you’re in between — one eye done, the other still relying on the single-lens glasses. It gets better quickly though. -dj

  3. (And that one eye isn’t settled yet … do you see the doctor this week? I think they do like to take a look right after the surgery to make sure everything is settling in well, it takes a few days or longer for the eye to fully incorporate that new lens).

  4. Prayer here as I appear to be embarking on a new ministry. For months now, I have been discussing Scripture and attributes of God with son in law. A few days ago, out of the blue, seventeen year old grandson (whom I have probably only seen five times in his life) asked me if we could do phone call Bible Study. He got his first phone about a week ago and we started texting. He brought up Church. So we are.

    Advent Meditation: Peace on Earth
    December 13, 2023 / Justin Dillehay

~ Ever since sin entered the world, peace has been fleeting. Fallen men are so prone to violence that a righteous sword is required to restrain them (Rom. 13:1–7). And yet our hearts yearn for paradise lost, where the lion ate straw like an ox and there was nothing to hurt or destroy in all God’s holy mountain (Isa. 65:25; cf. Gen. 1:30). Thankfully, God’s prophets have promised us a new and better Eden is coming, where “nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isa. 2:4; Mic. 4:3; cf. Isa. 11:6–9).

A quick glance at the newspaper should convince us that this prophecy belongs to the “not yet” aspect of the kingdom. And yet meditating on passages like Luke 2:14 should also convince us that God is already restoring peace to the earth in some measure. There is a group of people “with whom [God] is pleased,” among whom true shalom exists. We call them the church—all those who by faith have embraced the “Prince of Peace” as their Savior (Isa. 9:6). …

… As those justified by faith, we now have peace with God (Rom. 5:1) …

… Our task as Christians is to increasingly become like Christ, to walk worthy of our calling, and to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph. 4:3). By the Spirit, we pursue peace with our enemies and make war on the passions that cause quarrels among us (Gal. 5:16; James 4:1).

However, the “war to end all wars” has already been fought. It was launched on Christmas, won on Good Friday, and proclaimed on Easter morning. …

… In what practical ways can you seek to maintain peace among the Christians in your local church? Does peace characterize your life online in the way you relate to others?

    Rejoice

    Hark! the herald angels sing
    “Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
    God and sinners reconciled!”

  6. Oh, I see that Kathaleena said she is having a recheck today, that’s good — let us know how it goes.

Mumsee, very exciting about 17-year-old ministry 🙂 Praying for the court appearance.

  7. Yes, I did have a recheck. All is well with the eye. It was still dilated, so they did not have to do that again. I have been experimenting if it is better with my glasses on or off. Six of one, half dozen of the other. 20/20 vision in the eye done. It will be nice to be finished with it all. It is a blessing to be able to get it done. I couldn’t say enough for the staff in the surgery center.
