One needs to understand the Irish and British press before making conclusions on the headlines. These are tabloids designed to grab people’s attention and then buy. Headlines are incendiary, photos are graphic, and serious writing is minimal. Its about sale and marketing not politics. The broadsheets are far more reserved and subdued as evidenced by the Irish Examiner.
The behaviour of the police on Jan 6th was predictable and according to their training. I find it amusing that people were actually surprised and outraged. And of course they were added to a TSA list. It doesn’t take much to get on a list like that. Quite a few Canadians are on a US border patrol list for political activities.
The original Abraham accords did not involve Saudi Arabia. The Biden admin basically extended the Trump initiative to Saudi Arabia and other nations. In turn, the Trump admin basically copied previous admins initiatives where Arab rulers received incentives from the US. For example, Morocco recognised Israel in exchange for the US recognising Morocco’s annexation of Western Sahara.
Israeli-Saudi negotiations were getting close just prior to the Hamas attack. Some commentators believe the threat of a Saudi-Israel treaty prompted the Hamas. The expected Israeli reaction would then make it impossible for the Saudi’s sign a treaty. And the treaty negotiation were cancelled. If the Saudis recognise Israel, it would be the end of Hamas’ goal of “river to sea”. Does Biden have anything to do with this? Who knows but American presidential admins generally over exaggerate their influence on world events.
Quarantine acts have always been drastic. This is nothing new. Democracy will survive.
