Psalm 92
A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.
1 It is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
4 For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy at what your hands have done.
5 How great are your works, Lord,
how profound your thoughts!
6 Senseless people do not know,
fools do not understand,
7 that though the wicked spring up like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be destroyed forever.
8 But you, Lord, are forever exalted.
9 For surely your enemies, Lord,
surely your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
10 You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox;
fine oils have been poured on me.
11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
One of my readings today was in Matthew when Jesus told his disciples they would all leave him, and that Peter would betray them. They all protested. Later I know he wants them to pray, but they sleep. I so identify with them. How blind we can be for our need for God’s strength! We must be or we would all be praying more. Or perhaps I should speak for myself.
My prayers for you went out this morning.

Yes, Kathaleena! How often I have thought about that if we really believed that prayers are answered then why would we not make prayer our top priority (at least after being in God’s word). I, for one, am so easily distracted by the company I keep. If I am with praying people, I pray more. If with those who don’t pray, then I slack off. It is not right that I am more influenced by people than by what God wants. God knows the inclination to do what I don’t want to do and not do what I want to do.

And my mind is so distracted, I am constantly pulling my rambling thoughts back and rereading what I just read, pleading with God to help me read His word with my mind as well as my eyes. And prayer? Exactly. Fortunately He is there day and night so the conversation continues throughout. Do I do the same when talking with others? Squirrel. I admire those who can carry on a conversation.

I found this podcast about prayer for Israel in an email. There is an interview with Joel Rosenberg, a Christian author and newscaster who lives in Israel. The prayers at the end are wondrrful to pray in agreement.

Praying for a restraint of violence and peace that only God can ultimately bring about.
Prayer also that the U.S. can set aside its harsh internal political divisions during this time. Perhaps those emotional conversations pitting Americans (and too often, sadly, believers) against one another aren’t particularly helpful right now?

So in that vein, prayers for our President, Congress and all of those in leadership during this stressful and difficult time. -dj

Amen. We need God. But then, that has always been the case.
