  1. Good morning! A new work week begins. Do you have any special work you plan to get done today or this week?

Here is a motivational message about Deep Work:

I look forward to working with less “distraction” in my life!

  2. Well, according to the schedule, prominently displayed for my dad’s convenience, we can expect corn hole this morning at nine and again at one, followed by ice cream at two thirty and a phone call from my brother at three. Then, a walk on the deck before supper with Lawrence welk, jeopardy, wheel of fortune and then bed.

Husband, on the other hand, will be making his second trip to Lewiston this week, taking son to speech therapy. They inadvertently removed him from the rolls, though he has been a steady customer for years, so husband will be filling out paperwork again.

  4. We were socked in this morning, woke up to the deep ship and fog horns sounding off in the harbor — and by the time it began to be light outside, I could see why — super-dense fog, I could barely see the palms across the street.

And at 8:30 a.m. now, the fog is still very dense.

Another weekend went by way, way too fast. -dj

  5. Y’all gave me an idea for a birthday present for my friend who likes to read. I ordered a clip-on book light😀 I hope she does not have one, but isn’t that something that might be helpful to have in multiples if one reads more than one book at a time?

  6. Mumsee – (re: “according to the schedule, prominently displayed for my dad’s convenience”) – When MIL Mary was here, I would print out, in large, colorful letters, the day’s schedule so she would know what was going on. It was put on a clipboard which was propped up where she could easily see it.

But Mary would turn it around, because she didn’t think she needed it. Then she would sit in her chair and complain that she didn’t know what was going on. Or when we were prompting her to get ready to leave for some reason, she would complain that no one told her she was going anywhere. (We would tell her as well as leaving the schedule.)

We just had to take it all with a dose of good-natured humor, but it was so sad that her critical, negative streak became even worse as she devolved into the dementia.

I pray that if I one day devolve into dementia, I will not be negative or critical or complaining.

  7. NJ – I kind of like it when Nightingale doesn’t cook for one reason or another, because it means that I don’t have to clean up after her.

She is a wonderful cook, but a messy one!

Have I told you all about the rat yet?

Last night I heard Abby barking in the backyard. Now that’s really strange because she’s just not a barker.

So I went out to see what was up and she was barking at what looked like a dark lump in the middle of the backyard (it was nighttime).

I went in to get a flashlight and discovered, oh, look, the lump has a little face.

And a tail. A long tail.

He looked uninjured but wasn’t moving at all, and I could see Abby had scraped the loose dirt near and all around him. Knowing Abby, she probably was excited and trying to get him to play. She’s very lonesome for another pet.

So I managed to get a leash on Abby, who was very excited (the rat not so much, still frozen in place) and I took the dog inside. When I went back out the rat was gone.

I’m thinking maybe/probably a tree rat which we have in our neighborhood — and with all the disruption to my trees (and there was a trim job on the neighbors’ backyard avocado tree, too, right before mine were done) some critters may have gotten discombobulated. I love that word.

  9. I stayed with Miss B in the girlie room all day and did not cook although there was plenty of food in the refrigerator. At some point Bro left and did not let me know someone was picking him up. Nor did hr tell Art. Son just happened to call him and find Bto was at home. So the girls have their freedom again! All it took was one day of not cooking. That was my chore for today. Silence is golden sometimes. So thankful to reclaim my space!!!

  10. I think we are back to where we started the year with not speaking to one another😀 Since I have gotten my ears filled for five weeks, to be on nonspeaking terms is okay by me! The lack of gratitude though is astounding. Living and learning day by day. Praise be to God for the many forms of freedom. As I stayed in the room today, it was a beauriful prompt to pray for Israel and the innocents of Gaza. I kept thinking of people hiding out in fear in small spaces. Their situations are much worse than mine was today.
