A tall and cool-headed bird of distinction to start us off today, AJ! Another great capture.
We turned on the heat today to be sure it is working. A predicted low of 48° on Sunday will mean a bigger heating bill for Oct. than usual. Typically we would bundle up and endure a cold house until it warmed back up. Can’t do that now with the healing going on after surgery.
I sneezed about twenty times or more this a.m. from the switch over to heat.
We used to put a damp towel over the registers the first time we turned on the heat to trap all the dust that builds up in the ductwork over time. Saved us from sneezing and having to dust furniture.
Good morning, all. A beautiful day here. Watched the comet again this morning. My dad was up when I got up at five. No idea when he came out but he is eating breakfast now.
Today we think of our sister. She died about twenty two years ago, would have been about seventy two today.
Got a haircut and went to the chiropractor yesterday. What a difference the chiropractor made. From my fall my jaw was off. I had felt it and now it is aligned. He also spent some time on a pressure point under my right arm. I didn’t even ask him about that. But later when I was working out in the pool, I realized that my right arm was strong again. It had been feeling weaker and weaker. Almost couldn’t use it in the pool. Also aligned my hips.
So glad that I went
Jo
Peter, what a clever idea, I may try that this year. I still have to pull up the big, heavy floor heater return to clean that out, it has a screen that attaches underneath the iron grate with the teeniest, tiniest little screws, so it’s always a pain to do that chore every fall. The screen has a layer of mostly accumulated pet hair + dust that almost just peels away in one piece. It’s obviously a job I need to do outdoors.
Annie the cat used to love sitting on a couple of those smaller grates (where the heat flows up into the house) on chilly mornings when I’d first turn the heat on.
For now, we’re getting a heat spike, up well into the 80s yesterday, though nights are still comfortably cool.
Another busy day with harbor commission meeting starting in about an hour; and another day, another doctor — yesterday was the eye doctor, today it’s the thumb doctor.
Morning!! A long necked bird up there!!! Beautiful!!
Waiting for daughter at Panera… it’s starting to get busy…lots of old people having breakfast out today!! Katie will be the youngest person in here!😊
Interesting to me: not only do we have strawberries blossoming and bearing in October but the hollyhocks are putting out new buds to bloom again. That is a once a year thing and then they die back.
I bought a Roomba at the thrift store about a year ago and am shocked at what it mindlessly vacuums up as it wends its way around the house. All I do is push a button and when it returns home, I clean out the lint tray.
Astonishing.
We’re off to a romantic lunch at Costco after getting flu and RSV shots.
Love that idea, Peter. Wish I had known before I turned it on! And I will forget by next year😒
I made strawberry banana walnut buckwheat pancakes yesterday. I make them the size of cookies and without sugar so a good healthy snack as needed without syrup.
We watched Murder on the Orient Express last night and Bro enjoyed that. We also watched The Ultimate Gift. I am becoming a movie junkie😀
Ok, I’m home. The news was not what I had hoped. There are once again 2 areas of concern. They will now do another biopsy surgery soon. If the results come back that it is cancer again, they will do another surgery and remove my bladder. Still trying to get my head around that. It is what it is, and God is in control, so I’m trying to just leave it with Him.
Not gonna lie though, I’m stressing pretty hard over it right now.
Understandable. Keep your eyes on where you are headed for eternity. This short time on earth, pleasant as it is, is just the beginning.
God may take you Home through this or something else.
Or He may be using you through this experience, to be a strong encouragement to others to put their trust in Him, and we will meet others there who were blessed through your discomfort and learning from it.
But for now, mourning and weeping with you.
Ditto to what Mumsee said. We do life one day at a time and some days feel bigger than others, in either good or bad ways. God is always with us through it all. And the blog family is a good place to share and find comfort and prayer. Praying for us to be a harbor and refuge for you in all you deal with related to the diagnosis. And as always, hopeful to see Jesus myself in one way or another soon. Any old day now . . . that’d be fine!
Oh Aj, I’m sorry about that news. Treatments and medicine have come a long way, though, and we can be encouraged on that front. Still, very tough, understandably. Praying for you, brother. These hard providences typically also strengthen our faith with much spiritual growth. Still, we’d all rather skip the stress of going through it all, clearly.
mumsee @10:57, you have a good memory. Interesting because as I was inspecting it the other day and planning for when I’d have the hour-plus time to deal with it I realized that at least I don’t have to worry about the “cat slide” event recurring this time.
💔Aj we are heartbroken at the moment knowing the report was one of continuing the battle. But…the battle has been won by our Redeemer and in Him we too place the trust and care of you our dear brother. Paul and I have covenanted together to stand alongside in the journey and we are here for whatever you need…
Praying His rest will surround and envelope you and Cheryl knowing full well His grace and mercy rests upon His own❣️
Minor health report: thumb got a clean bill of health in the followup with the hand doctor. If it starts clicking again, say in a year or so, they’ll just give it another steroid shot.
Always something …
As an eye doctor once told me (who was old enough know know first-hand), “After 50 it’s all maintenance.”

DJ, might want to get that screen cleaned before getting the new cat for Abby. Remember what happened.
