  1. Jo has either quiet animals around her or has trained them well. 😉

I saw a male grouse displaying today but could not see the female until she flew out of the apple tree. The poor fella followed on foot over and over until they were lost to my sight.

I heard from an animal vet, who asked for prayer for Ashley, that her dog had jumped on her chest last night and saved her life. Apparently, she has an undiagnosed heart issue.

My husband heard from a friend that he has a doctor’s appointment this week for his heart. He was sleeping and suddenly saw a bright light. He felt himself floating and at perfect peace. His wife (a nurse) realized he wasn’t breathing and touched his hand, which was cold. He awoke then. He believes he was about to die. He felt no fear. He is a believer.

  2. Good morning, all. A beautiful day here. No comet watching for me as the clouds moved in and it has been raining since yesterday. I notice daughter did not get her clothes off the line.

  3. The owls here also were chattering the other night, must be the season.

I sometimes hear coyotes, they like the ravine/canyon that runs through our neighborhood. It is pretty much an ideal coyote territory. M used to play in those canyons I think. I would have, too, had a grown up here.

We are getting a bit of drizzle/sprinkles on an overcast, cool morning today. So I’ve broken out the turtlenecks and some light pullover sweaters. I have a speech to cover in person today but a port commission meeting (virtual) to look in on first, so this will be a full day. First real work “outing” since the initial cataract surgery that was just a week ago today. Ready or not …

  4. Morning, wonderful weather here. In the 70s today and for the next ten days. Nice on the budget to not have to use heating or cooling. The golden time of year

    Yes, very quiet here

  5. I played in a canyon about a mile west up the hill, and maybe once or twice in your canyon. Ah, those were the blissful innocent days when your mother didn’t panic if you played outside all day long without supervision.

The library was closed today because of SMOKE! It’s a red flag day, but no one is worried about fire–but then, they’ve got all those flammable objects inside.

I guess I better close down my house, too, same flammable objects! 🙂

Fascinating article from Breakpoint–writers don’t like AI, and while the engineers I personally I know are not anti-humanity, we know many who simply don’t understand why people can’t be more logical.

    😦

    Whee!

  6. G’day, all. Art and bro had a good nap last night at Hotel Hospital while I had a fitful rest at home. Cat girl was happy to see Mama.

Dogwalking friend brought me back to the Hotel. We have been trying to round up a replacement lightbulb that gave out, during the most inconvenient time, this week. Challenges abound. Some things last for years and wait for the critical moment to fail!

  7. Long neck. Would be hard to find turtlenecks that fits.

My neighbors are still doing battle with the heron who comes by to stalk and grab their koi fish, despite all the barricades they’ve put up.

I would have loved playing in those canyons, my elementary school friend and neighbor would have been all over that as a playground.

Long speech, saw a lot of folks I have known and quoted through the years, some I hadn’t seen in a while, others I still do — a couple newer ones I’ve only talked to on the phone so nice to meet them face to face.

I also saw my neighbor from up around the corner who always watches for me to pass by with Abby. She’s 91, I believe, a former airline attendant, goes to the Episcopal Church in our neighborhood, active in the YW; but knees are problematic, she’s too old for surgery, she told me, and has to get around using 2 metal canes (?), but she looked good today and so nice (she always dresses so nice) to see her out and about.

No one said my glasses looked weird, except for mumsee.

  8. I did not say they looked weird! I only commented I noticed when you pointed it out. After all, my dad did that for weeks last year until I realized his helper was not going to address it.

  9. It would really show up coming inside from outside as I have the transition lenses that turn dark. Doofus-like.

But now I’m usually wearing the clunky, huge over-glasses polarized sunglasses on top of them whenever I go outside.

  10. First time I noticed dad missing a lens, I thought it odd but he just shrugged it off so I did. Turns out my dad was well into confusion for quite a while but covered it well.

  11. A woman who plays in the music group with my husband had to do so with one lens. She also had sunglasses on sometimes. This is one reason I put off getting my eyes done this summer. I can’t put it off too long. I am not thrilled with the time between eyes and new glasses. Lots of adjustment. Yet we are so blessed to be able to have the surgery.

  12. Thanks, Jo. You owe me though.

Kathaleena, the surgery of course is very worth it. Friend’s parents said their only regret was not getting it done sooner. It is a period of inconvenience, but it will pass soon enough.

  13. I’m amazed at how easy the surgery is — you’re awake but feel happy (thank you IV) and you feel absolutely no pain or sensation in your eyes; you can hear the doctors talking and you see lights and shapes, sort of like watching a 3D movie. It’s over in about 10 minutes.
