“Writer Christopher Rufo discusses the unique psychological characteristics that are shaping public life in America today.

“The Cluster B society is upon us and we must find a way out. We must find a way to restore balance, to restore order, to restore sanity, because if we don’t, we are resigned to a world gone mad,” Rufo states. “If you want a picture of that future, imagine this person screaming in your face forever.”

CHRIS RUFO: You’re not imagining that the world has gone mad. Healthy debate has been replaced by activist hysterics. Masculinity is condemned as regressive, while men in skirts and heels are celebrated in the public square. It’s as if we’re experiencing a society-wide mental breakdown. It’s easy to laugh at these outbursts as the ravings of a small but vocal minority, but the compromised health of our body politic is not a trivial concern.

A strange, new pattern of psychological dysfunction has infiltrated our most prestigious institutions, our corporate bureaucracies, and the highest offices in the land. In short, we’re sick. Our society is out of balance. We’ve been consumed by a cluster of disorders that appeal to our worst instincts and deranges our most important social functions.

We need to recover our sanity. But to do so, we must first know exactly what we’re dealing with.

Every historical period develops unique psychological characteristics that shape public life. After World War One, we had the Lost Generation that was shell-shocked and disillusioned. In the mid-20th century, we entered the age of anxiety, characterized by a pervasive sense of existential dread in the face of the bomb. And 50 years ago, we saw the rise of the culture of narcissism, which social critic Christopher Lasch described as a society obsessed with ego, desire, and self-image.

Today, we are witnessing the emergence of something new, what might be called a Cluster B Society. Like the culture of narcissism, our own digital age has a distinct psychological profile, heavily influenced by the power of social media. The cameras are always on. An audience is always watching. And narcissism is transformed into hysteria, moral theatrics, emotional volatility, self-indulgence, and outbursts of violence.

Psychologists have captured the spirit of our modern culture in four specific psychopathologies that together comprise the “Cluster B Personality Disorders.”

    – Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by a sense of entitlement, obsession with one’s own self-importance, and deep feelings of resentment, often expressed through moral self-righteousness.

    – Borderline personality disorder is characterized by an unstable sense of identity, black-and-white thinking, feelings of emptiness, and recurring self-harm and suicide attempts.

    – Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by excessive emotionality, sexual provocation, and attention seeking, often to serve a pathological need for sympathy.

    – Anti-social personality disorder is characterized by impulsivity, manipulation, disregard for others, and a penchant for violence and aggression that violates social norms.

But this cluster of social pathologies is no longer an individual matter, it has begun to shape the patterns and structures of our entire culture, which is quickly becoming a Cluster B society that replaces disagreement with accusation, uses false compassion to manipulate citizens into compliance, honors victimhood instead of accomplishment, and enforces the whole scheme with the threat of violence.

    The Rise Of The Pathocracy

For most of our history, significant personality disorders were treated as problems and largely relegated to the fringes of society. But in our emerging Cluster B society, the narcissist, the borderline, the hysteric, and the anti-social psychological types have been elevated into positions of power and celebrated by our institutions. The new status quo is an emerging leadership class that rules through emotional blackmail. Powerful institutions use the cover of various victim groups to impose their agenda on the rest of us. If we dissent, we’re branded as hateful bigots, we’re accused of lacking empathy, and we’re ritualistically banished.

While these strategies are contemptible, they are also remarkably effective in controlling what we think, what we say, and how we act. And they’ve slowly transformed our institutions into what psychologist Andre Lobachevsky calls “Pathocracy,” or rule by psychological dysfunction. This has become our new social order.

If you look around, you’ll start seeing it everywhere. The Cluster B traits have been formalized and entrenched in our Human Resource departments, government policies, cultural institutions, and civil rights law.

This is a recruiting video from the CIA that overtly valorizes the Cluster B traits of narcissistic identity obsession, self-righteousness, and need for affirmation. In the Culster B society, psychological disorders become markers of distinction, rather than problems to be solved. Politics too has been infected. This is a state senator engaged in deranged moral theatrics, with all of the attention-seeking, black-and-white thinking, and excessive emotionality associated with Cluster B. And finally, we see Chiara Bridges, a law professor at UC Berkeley, who demonstrates the kind of antagonism, emotional manipulation, and accusatory tone that has become a staple of political discourse.

The goal is not to arrive at answers, but to browbeat opponents and make them feel bad for denying left-wing orthodoxy.

    Laboratories Of Dysfunction

The modern university is the primary laboratory for the Cluster B pathologies. On campus, the Pathocracy rules. The social critic Heather Macdonald reveals the basic contours of this regime in an essay entitled: “The Great Feminization Of the University.”

MacDonald argues that the dramatic rise in the number of female college administrators, who now dominate the campus culture, has led to a growing obsession with safety, harm, and victimization rather than prioritizing academic achievement and substantive debate, administrators have elevated nebulous therapeutic concepts such as “trauma,” “white fragility,” and “systemic injustice.”

As MacDonald notes, “When students claim to be felled by ideas that they disagree with, the feminized bureaucracy does not tell them to grow up and get a grip, it validates their self-pity.”

As a result, American college students have found themselves in the midst of an unprecedented mental health crisis. According to the University of Michigan’s “Healthy Minds” study, more than 60% of college students meet the criteria for at least one mental health problem. A nearly 50% increase since 2013. The more we indulge Custer B style pathologies, the more we replicate them in our institution.

But rather than reverse course, university administrators have only leaned further into this broken model. Students are told that they are always under attack, and that their safety is always threatened, and rather than strengthen them to meet these challenges, administrators fight to sanitize the campus environment and shut down any speech deemed “harmful” or “offensive.”

This is the perfect recipe for enabling and encouraging Cluster B-style narcissism and hysteria. Scenes and sentiments like these have become ubiquitous, and they work. As we saw recently at Stanford Law School, the Dean Of Diversity and Inclusion, working in a codependent manner with hyperventilating students, disrupted the speech of a federal judge. The dean accused the judge of causing harm and making her uncomfortable. This is all it takes to justify the mob. It is Cluster B-powered Pathocracy in action.

    The Explosion Of Pathologies

The Cluster B pathologies have a remarkable power of transmission, and like a pathogen leaking from a lab, they’ve broken containment and are spreading through the rest of society. Te messaging of our major corporations is looking more and more like a celebration of disorder. Whether it is attempting to normalize gender dysphoria, or rewriting the standards of health and beauty. Social media has only accelerated these trends.

Sites like TikTok have become a breeding ground for mental illness, especially in teenage girls, who mimic the Cluster B behaviors they see online and have seen skyrocketing rates of anxiety and depression in the real world too. The sudden explosion of transgenderism follows the same line of development. Transgender individuals are 30 times more likely to suffer from a Cluster B personality disorder compared to the general population. And more than 50% of mothers with gender dysphoric boys suffer from borderline personality disorder. A remarkable transmission of psychopathology.

Much of the recent left-wing violence has also taken on the cast of the Cluster B disorders. The George Floyd riots were remarkable in part for their psychological tone. Wild emotional displays, narcissistic identity rituals, and victimology manifested in the streets. The anti-social personalities have learned how to wield left-wing ideology in order to justify their violence and terror.

As psychologists have long known, there is a long-established link between violent personalities and left-wing authoritarianism. The mugshots of Antifa footsoldiers drive home the point. These are not mentally well people. They are the hideous face of anti-social violence, the enforcement arm of the modern left, and the political vanguard of our Cluster B society. And they will not stop until they have transformed the world in their own image.”

    “Green Energy Is on Fire…Literally

Concerns arise over solar panel safety due to fires. EV battery incidents continue as well.”

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2023/09/green-energy-is-on-fire-literally/

“We have been following the reports involving electric vehicle battery (EV) fires, including the news about a cargo ship that burned for a week on the North Sea while carrying thousands of cars, nearly 500 of which were reported to be EVs, into a Dutch port for salvaging.

Now, there is another iconic green energy technology that we may have to worry about: Solar panels.

The number of fires involving solar panels has soared after a boom in their use driven by energy bill rises, The Independent can reveal.

Data obtained under freedom of information rules show that there were six times the number of fires involving solar panels last year compared with 10 years ago.

The rate has increased sharply with 66 fires already recorded up until July this year compared with 63 for the whole of 2019, prompting concern from safety experts who are worried about a lack of regulation on who can install them.

The UK Independent also notes that the fire risks are increasing among the ‘first wave’ of units installed at the beginning of the green energy/climate crisis mania.

…The National Fire Chiefs Council said it was “concerned” about the possible risk to building safety, while the charity Electrical Safety First (ESF) said the rise in fires meant “further investigations are urgently required”.

Increasing solar generation is integral to the UK meeting its net zero goals. According to the trade association Solar Energy UK (SEUK), the domestic installation rate is the highest it has been in more than seven years.

However, new data from 45 of the UK’s 52 fire authorities, suggests that the first wave of solar panels installed under the government’s Feed in Tariff (FiT) subsidies introduced in 2010, are increasingly at risk of catching fire.

Great Britain is not the only country where solar panel fires have occurred. In New Jersey this summer, solar panels ignited on the rooftop at a large pharmaceutical supply warehouse.

Solar panels and an HVAC unit on the roof were on fire when firefighters were called to the McKesson Corporation warehouse on John Henry Drive in the Matrix Northeast Business Park in Robbinsville shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, the Robbinsville Fire Department said.

Firefighters from Robbinsville and surrounding towns in Monmouth and Mercer counties brought the blaze under control in a little over an hour. The 350,000-square-foot building was not heavily damaged and none of the millions of dollars of merchandise inside was destroyed.

Smoke could be seen for miles, authorities said.

In July, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Cape Cod also had a fire associated with its solar panels. The blaze was so intense that the initial responders had to call in more units for assistance.”

“Ukrainian spokes-trans suspended: Ukraine funding may blow up talks”

    https://hotair.com/tree-hugging-sister/2023/09/20/ukrainian-spokes-trans-suspended-ukraine-funding-may-blow-up-talks-n579362

“There’s been a shake-up in the public affairs department of the Ukrainian Army. Feisty American transgender territorial defense forces spokesperson Sarah Ashton-Cirillo…

…has gotten himself canned for poppin’ off at the chops a little too saucily one time too many.”

“Oh, he is a minx and quite a social media handful.

…”Sarah Ashton-Cirillo has been suspended from the duties of the spokesperson of the (territorial defence forces of Ukraine) while an investigation is underway,” Ukraine’s defence ministry said on social media.

After coming to Ukraine to report on refugees, Ashton-Cirillo ended up fighting for Ukraine and became a spokesperson for the country’s territorial defence forces.

A trans woman, she told AFP in a recent interview that she had learned to “embrace the hate of the Russians” who have mocked her gender identity.

It was unclear which statements provoked her suspension.

“The statements of (Sarah) Ashton-Cirillo in recent days were not approved by the command of the territorial defence forces,” they said.

“When conducting military operations against the aggressor, the defence forces of Ukraine strictly observe the norms of international humanitarian law.”

His suspension – and I’m just stabbing in the dark here – might also have to do with a very public tit-for-tat he’s been having with Ohio Senator J.D. Vance over threats that were made during his “official” videos. In fact, Vance sent a letter to senior defense and intelligence officials asking them just who the hell was this person and did he have any connection with U.S. intelligence agencies?

…Vance’s letter to top US defense and intelligence officials stated in part:

“In recent days, a video has circulated of an individual who claims to be an English-speaking spokesperson for the Ukrainian military. In the video, this individual, Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, looks directly into the camera and threatens physical violence to anyone who circulates ‘Russian propaganda’.”

    And more from the letter:

“A number of reports purport to offer additional information, much of it unconfirmed, regarding Ashton-Cirillo. I’ve seen claims this individual is an American, a former intelligence operative in the United States, and an employee of the Ukrainian government. Others have argued Ashton-Cirillo is pulling an elaborate prank. If so, kudos for the delivery of high quality humor,” Vance continued in an apparent reference to Ashton-Cirillo’s reported direct lobbying of the U.S. Congress for military aid to Ukraine last December.”

They can’t have that, because the funding dies if it stands alone. The Biden admin knows this.

    “‘Emergency’ Spending”

    https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2023/09/21/emergency-spending-n579457

“Did you survive the budget cuts from the last debt ceiling fight?

President Joe Biden called them “draconian,” while Republicans praised the deal’s “historic reductions in spending.”

But both parties conned us, as my new video explains.

What they call “cuts” were just a reduction in their planned spending increase. Instead of raising spending by 7.8%, they increased it by “only” 3.9%. Only politicians get to call an increase a cut.

Biden praised the deal, saying, “We’re cutting spending and bringing the deficits down at the same time!”

    But they didn’t.

Now they’re using tricks to spend even more.

“Call it an emergency — done,” says Cato Institute budget specialist Romina Boccia. “Spend the money on whatever you want.”

Boccia reports how the Senate is moving to increase spending beyond the agreed-upon caps simply by calling it “emergency” spending.

“They gave $296 million to NASA for ’emergency infrastructure.’ What’s ’emergency infrastructure?’” I ask.

“That’s not really a thing,” she replies. “It’s just a way to plus up the NASA budget … a huge slush fund.”

    “How do they justify this?”

“They don’t even try!” Boccia complains. “Unfortunately, Congress has complete discretion over what it calls ’emergency.’”

This trick isn’t new. Under President Barack Obama, $150 million for fisheries got added by calling it “emergency funding.”

“I don’t think that’s an emergency,” says Boccia. “It’s not sudden; it’s not urgent.”

In the current budget, even useless agencies that should be eliminated, like the Education Department, get more money. It will now spend 300% more than it spent 10 years ago.

“By the end of this decade, spending will be about $10 trillion,” says Boccia. “Who will be willing to lend that money to the U.S. government?”

    Good question.

Recently, Fitch Ratings downgraded the U.S. government debt.

“The rating agencies and investors are catching on that the federal budget is highly unsustainable,” she points out.

It sure is. Politicians have voted to spend much more money than the government will ever have.

On the other hand, so far, nothing terrible has happened.

“The fact that it hasn’t happened yet does not mean that it will not happen,” says Boccia. “The math does not work out.”

The biggest reasons are Social Security and Medicare.

But when anyone proposes cuts, my fellow old people scream, “Government deducted money for Social Security and Medicare from my paychecks for years. I’m just getting my money back!”

They don’t realize that because we now live longer, most of us will get triple what we paid in.

But of course, we old people are the biggest voting bloc.

“Asking members of Congress running for office to reform old age entitlement programs is a bit like asking an astronaut in space to turn off his oxygen supply,” says Boccia.

So she and the Cato Institute propose a solution: Congress should create an independent commission to do the cutting. That way politicians can say, “Don’t blame me, the commission made the cuts!”

  10. As always, vote fraud is a myth….

    https://thefederalist.com/2023/09/18/democrat-produces-video-alleging-bridgeport-mayor-stole-election-by-stuffing-ballot-boxes/

“According to the Brookings Institution, “There is no evidence that mail ballots increase electoral fraud.” USA Today purports to “fact check” the “False claim that mail-in voting is connected to bad actors, fraudulent ballots.” The Brennan Center for Justice informs us, “Extensive research reveals that fraud is very rare.”

While it’s important not to make claims about the existence of voter fraud you can’t prove, what’s also true is that nearly all of the analyses dismissing concerns about voter fraud and mail-in ballots rest on a logical fallacy: The absence of evidence is evidence of absence. In other words, the assumption is that voter fraud is not happening because there are very few criminal convictions related to voter fraud. Republicans, however, have long contended that those governing the areas where voter fraud is most likely to occur — Democrat-run cities with a high density of votes — have no incentive to root out and prosecute voter fraud because they benefit from it politically.

With that in mind, what just happened in the Democratic primary in Bridgeport, Connecticut is pretty incredible, and so far, a cursory search shows there’s not a single story from a national news outlet about it. Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim just won the Democratic primary, effectively securing his seventh term as mayor of the largest city in Connecticut. However, his Democratic opponent — John Gomes, a city employee fired by Ganim earlier this year — isn’t conceding. He claims Ganim stole the election by tampering with mail-in ballots, and he’s released video he claims proves that’s what happened.

After Election Day, Gomes was leading Ganim among votes that were cast in person. Ganim insisted that it was important to wait for the absentee and mail-in ballots to be counted, and Ganim won the absentee votes 1,545 to 779, securing a victory in the primary by 251 votes. After the initial in-person votes were counted, Ganim predicted the absentee votes would break his way. According to the Connecticut Mirror, which has been all over this story, “Gomes also made note of the outstanding absentee ballots early Tuesday evening, but in front of reporters, he questioned whether voters could trust the outcome of those ballots.”

It turns out Gomes had good reason to question the validity of the ballots, and this wasn’t some outrageous attempt to delegitimize the election. Ganim also won the 2019 primary election with a come-from-behind victory that resulted from counting absentee ballots. Media accounts surrounding that election reported the absentee ballots in that election were “rife with irregularities.”

On Aug. 30, almost four full years later, Connecticut’s State Elections Enforcement Commission recommended criminal charges for three people connected to Ganim’s campaign relating to their suspected mishandling of absentee ballots in the 2019 election.

Now John Gomes has released video that he says shows city employee Wanda Geter-Pataky, who is affiliated with the Ganim campaign, stuffing ballots into drop boxes. “State statute says absentee ballots can be returned only by the ballot applicant, their family members, police officers, local election officials or someone who is directly caring for someone who receives an absentee ballot because they are ill or physically disabled,” according to the Mirror.

Though the woman in the video looks like Geter-Pataky, her identity has not been independently confirmed. Neither Geter-Pataky nor the Ganim campaign are commenting on the allegations. However, the video is compelling enough that there’s an official police investigation. Adding to the suspicions is the fact that, yes, Geter-Pataky is one of the three people that the State Elections Enforcement Commission just recommended charges against for her handling of ballots in 2019.

That in turn prompts a pretty basic question: The State Elections Enforcement Commission opened their investigation into Ganim’s campaign in September of 2019 almost as soon as the last primary election was over, so why did it take four years to do anything about this? It’s true proper investigations take time, and according to CT Insider, “SEEC investigators were hampered by the COVID pandemic.”

However, if you’re not inclined to give Connecticut officials the benefit of the doubt, the narrative here looks awfully suspicious. National Democrats spent 2020 fanning out across the country overhauling voting laws, often through corrupt and questionable processes, using Covid as an excuse to expand the use of absentee votes and ballot harvesting. That debate continued to rage after Trump’s narrow loss to Biden in the presidential election, which hung on just 44,000 votes across three key states, and which resulted in Trump and his allies alleging the election was stolen.

Even if a great many of the voter fraud allegations being made by Trump and his allies were dubious, confirmation that elections in the largest city in Connecticut were being stolen through the use of mail-in ballots would blow a huge hole in the frankly absurd partisan narrative that “there is no evidence that mail ballots increase electoral fraud.”

If you approach what happened here with a small degree of skepticism, it looks like the State Elections Enforcement Commission sat on its hands, because it would rather let the mayor of Bridgeport possibly steal an election than have to affirm that Republicans have a point about the connection between absentee ballots and fraud. And then when they realized that this latest primary in Bridgeport was also going to be close, it would appear they rushed out a report recommending criminal indictments just over two weeks before the primary election almost a full four years later as a last-ditch attempt to ward off Ganim’s campaign from tampering with ballots for potentially a second time.

The Bridgeport allegations of voter fraud also provide a disturbing window into how this kind of fraud could occur. In the USA Today “fact check” cited above, they quote an expert assuring us that “States and localities have had mitigations in place to catch any potential cases of fraud. Those mitigations have been in place for decades and they work.” But what if the people responsible for enforcing those “mitigations” are in on the fraud?

In the video above, it’s being alleged that, in between her multiple trips to the ballot drop box, Geter-Pataky is going into a municipal building and preparing more ballots to stuff at her desk as a city employee. Here is a picture of Geter-Pataky hugging the city clerk, and while there’s no evidence that the city clerk is in on any of the wrongdoing Geter-Pataky is allegedly accused of, clearly she has inside access to resources that would make fraud easier.”

  11. Jeff Childers:

Just when you thought a lost F35 was the week’s defining story, this happened. Yesterday, in a massively-important story completely embargoed by Establishment Media, probably because they haven’t gotten their narrative orders from the White House yet, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas made history by finally doing what the state’s conservatives have long been begging for:

Governor Abbott formally declared a State of Invasion at the border.

It’s a big deal, maybe even ‘yuge,’ as Trump would say. In a public letter addressed to Joe Biden, Governor Abbott declared the federal government has failed to protect Texas from invasion, so the state invoked Article I, Section 10, Clause 3 of the Constitution. As Abbott put it, in his historic letter:

The subtext of Abbott’s letter is literally a declaration of war. Article I, § 10, Clause 3 says that states shall not “engage in war” without the consent of Congress unless actually invaded:

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.

For at least a year that I can remember, Texas conservatives have been begging Abbott to invoke Clause I(10)(3). One sees both sides of the timing of making such a career-defining political decision. Abbott took the longer approach, and built up political armor by first sending migrants to blue places like Chicago and New York, which are also now buckling under the strain and more importantly, are complaining loudly and publicly.

It’s hard to understate how big a deal this is. Texas is going to war … but against what enemy? In his letter, Abbott smartly identified the cartels. In a tweet yesterday, Abbott showed his move was carefully and long-planned: at the time of the announcement, Texas had already deployed the National Guard and started building containment measures like a border wall.

By moving fast, Texas can’t now be stopped before they begin by an emergency temporary injunction from an Administration-friendly judge. It’s too late.

Biden keeps attacking the residents of Texas and they’ve had enough! He blatantly removes security at the southern border and no one gives a rip…until it comes to their “front door”!! Why he isn’t in prison for treason is beyond me….

“So far, there’s no data linking the vaccines to changes in menstruation,” two doctors from the Yale School of Medicine wrote in the New York Times in April 2021.

The next year, a large study in the journal Science Advances found that reports of changing cycles were far from anecdotal. 42% of women, in a survey of 39,000, reported that their menstrual cycle was heavier after vaccination. In October 2022, the European Union’s drug regulator recommended adding heavy periods as a side effect of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.”
