Good morning! Happy Saturday to those who wander with purpose.
A friend and her husband plan to go wandering on their 50th anniversary. They plan to get in the car and go without any particular destination in mind. It sounds fun, and also like a pure test in God’s good provision along the way. I am not sure I’d be brave enough to do that. Would you?
Sounds like a fun fiftieth. So much to see all around us. I spent the last four hours trying to see things. The first half hour or so was spent looking for the raccoon that has been hunting the flock. No success. Then trying to get a picture of the comet to send to my brother. He lives in Boise so hasn’t been able to see it. It was beautiful again this morning but no picture again. It will be a tired day with nobody to blame but me.
As to the discussion on kindle and Alexa: my children, of course, had no trouble accessing the internet when I gave them kindles for books. That was the problem. Or any of the others. I have not used them for access, did not know they did. Have I mentioned I am not the brightest bulb? Anyway, those days are mostly over. And no, Alexa just sits there listening. No lights turned on by it. I do cover my cameras on my iPad and chrome books.
Yes, I think that view would be diverting, which is a good thing when one doesn’t feel good.
My laptop allows the camera to be turned off. (I trust it is 😉 ) but I used to cover the old laptop camera. I dislike the lack of privacy, but I don’t worry about what I cannot change.
There is a big food truck event in a close town. Whoever thought food trucks would be so welcomed and celebrated? Or have such sophisticated food? I remember the old book/movie, “A Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.” I think a similar movie about great-grandparents in the modern day may be quite entertaining. So, anyone have favorite food truck food?
I saw the movie, with the seance, has gotten a pretty favorable review in World. I would hate to be present at a real one. I am not sure how this one is presented or if the final message of the movie justifies it. I suppose like so much other evil presented in movies and books.
We visited Monument relatives too early in the spring one year. They tried to take our family up to Pike’s Peak, but snow prevented it. Probably, my only chance in this life to go. There may be a chance in when I am in my eternal life, as Corrie Ten Boom said. If I still care!
Good morning all! The picture today looks like the scene I have watched over the past year or so at work. Every day, I cross a catwalk to get into the building and below is all the construction. The outside portion of the new extension is almost complete now. Production lines are being set up inside the new building, which pretty much doubles the size of our facility. It has been interesting to watch cranes lift incredibly huge objects and sections of wall high into the air while people crawl around below to guide.
Modern industrial construction is indeed an amazing thing. In fact, modern production is an amazing thing. Although anything can get old, I find that I am still interested and engaged with the machinery and robotics that I operate every day at work. And it’s so incredibly expensive to purchase.
Although I have studied economics, I am still almost startled that our economy flows as well and prosperously as it does. The more of the details I learn, the more convinced I am that it is the literal power of the favor of God that makes our economy run as smoothly as it does. Human efforts and affairs and endeavors, and even mechanics and robotics, are not naturally peaceful and smooth. Competence and order are not natural states of being for humans and our man-made environments. It takes a lot of work to create and maintain those things. And without the favor and blessing of our Creator, we are incompetent and chaotic, and entirely incapable of being anything else.
The photo today is not on the crane side of the building. Yesterday, the giant bucket attached to the crane, as it arose, seemed pretty close to our window. My imagination . . . how many besides the one in the hospital room bed will need surgery😳
It’s overcast here, I have a sweatshirt on this morning and just ate the breakfast burrito I picked up at the market deli the other day for my post-surgery meal (but haven’t felt much like eating anything that significant until this morning).
Halloween/fall decorations are going up around town, the local vacant corner lot is prepping for the annual pumpkin patch.
Didn’t Laurel and Hardy move a piano once? Or was the it the Marx Bros?
Dj, why has that surgery affected your appetite? Was it the stress? I never had that as an issue in my occasions of the surgery. I did not take any med by mouth except maybe something for anxiety that they gave to everyone?
Janice, not sure. Same after the knee surgery, I just munched lightly. Don’t think it’s stress at all. Just a recovery-mode that breaks the regular eating patterns, I think.
Piano moving. When we were stationed at West Point we needed to move a piano about that, without a truck. It had those little wheels and we had lots of strong and willing military personnel, got er done. Mostly on streets but sidewalks as needed. We were selling it or giving it away. I would hope they tuned it when it got inside!
Definitely autumnal weather here. The sun is shining brightly but air is crispy.
Husband finished his race to the top of the Peak…second in his age class…and running through the snow!
It’s game day for the NCAA. South Carolina is at Georgia today. It’s almost the end of the first quarter, and SC is ahead 7-3. Chas would be proud of his Gamecocks so far.
We are watching the Mariners play a team called Los Angeles Dodgers. Well one of us is sort of watching, the other is sleeping. Don’t tell me who wins, we are watching yesterday’s game due to the blackout.
Thanks, Peter, for the UGA update.
I know that when son’s very small university played UGA last year I shuttered to think what would happen before it began. I was so happy when the underdog at least got some points on the board.
Son wanted to run today, but I told him that maybe he should walk first since he’s a few days out from Covid recovery. I hope he waits! He had an exhausting few days of catch-up on work mixed with stress of Unc’s surgery.
I know a lady whose husband was moving the piano in the back of a truck and when he turned into the driveway it toppled out breaking into a whole lot of pieces. Slow and steady is necessary, I guess.
Is there a dolly you can use or cart with wheels to simply walk it down?
We would have given our piano to one of our daughters, but the cost made no sense. Ours is, however, a tall old one. It has beautiful sound. Or did when it was actually tuned. It has a broken wheel, so is never easy to move.
I like our weather when we don’t need either ac or heat. Open the windows and let in the fresh air. Except this after noon, the golf course has a live band and the bass and drums are loud.
Spent the afternoon at Hotel Hospital. Always glad to bring in some joy. And it’s fun meeting people (workers) from other countries. It’s like world travel without leaving the state. We get in a lot of walking in the parking lot and hallways. Bro is doing well. I got to savor a giant brownie from his dinner tray. Enough sugar to lastme a year!
Art is watching Washington play Denver while I am up and down fixing beef lomein for dinner .

NASA’s efforts hadn’t yielded many applications, apparently because people didn’t believe they were serious about it. They got many times more applications from women and minorities once she was on board than in the months before. It was pretty interesting to this Trekkie and fan of the space program.

Morning!
37 degrees in this forest with the sun shining on the tips of the pines. Warming to high 60’s by afternoon.
Husband up early..thus we were ALL up early. His first Pikes Peak Ascent run…he just had to do it one time before he can’t!
Janice that sounds like something we would do and perhaps in two years we will for our 50th!! Oh the adventure of it all! Good for them!

Ok, I have to agree with Art here, that construction view does actually look it could be pretty interesting to watch.

Any ideas on how to move a spinet piano if you don’t have a truck?

See if you can do a barder deal with someone to move the piano?

We’re getting closer–we got the piano down the stairs. Now, if we could find someone to help with a truck or a tall enough van . . .
Meanwhile, did I suggest watching this movie yesterday? (Still clearing emails)

It’s on Amazon Prime so we may watch it this weekend.

Congrats to Mr. NJ, that sounds grueling.
I’ve done laundry and hung things out on the patio to dry. Ranking best in my class?

UPDATE: SC 14-3 at the half. Georgia is #1 right now, SC unranked.

Interesting article about singles in the church. I think some of it can apply to people who attend without their spouse or other situations, too.

If Peter L is correct about the winner getting the most runs, I guess the Mariners lost. But there is always tomorrow, which is today.
