Good morning, again, from the hospital. I sent AJ a few views of construction sites on both sides (we are in a corner room). Art has been gazing out the window in awe for about an hour.
Happy Birthday Kevin! And prayers for Janice and family.
I survived the first cataract surgery but vision is tricky, I was looking for a pair of store-bought clunky sunglasses I’d bought and picked up a cell phone car holder thinking that was the glasses … uh, nope.
Finally found them, I’m off to the doctor for the followup appt in a couple hours, friend is picking dropping me off and picking me up. Still wearing the patch until then. Thanks for the prayers, I’m sure it’ll all get better.
Okay how about a topic of the day? I just want to know if I’m the only one to have reservations or dislike Alexa or echo. I realize that they can be helpful but to have something in your home to listen to every word you say……
Alexa/echo: we have one which we rarely use at all now that my dad is here. We mostly used it for music.
Yes, it listens (how else would it know when I say its name or anything remotely like it) but I don’t care. I figure the phone listens as does the tv and any computers or tablets or other such devices. Though I occasionally attempt to poke the bear as I used to on the phone by mentioning a White House down the road, I don’t really care. Notice: I did not capitalize White House but it was capitalized for me, I was simply mentioning a White House where my neighbors reside. My words will be taken in whatever way the listener chooses. God has me.
Happy Birthday, Kevin. I hope it’s been a good day.
Thankful your surgery is done, Dj. How was it getting the drop shots in the eye? I wonder if that is why some people are reluctant to switch from drops. Shots in the eye sound scary, but if one is having cataracts removed what is a little shot in the eye? I think the area had enough pain relief that no sensation was noticed. You probably did not feel the shot, I’m thinking.
It took three trips to vending machines to get a small bag of Cheezits for 2 bucks. Thd first machine was down (no power), the second machine was out (empty slot), and the third machine was the charm, (snagged a bag)!
Alexa, echo, and such will not find a home in our house. It’s not only the invasion of privacy on one more level, but they encourage a new level of laziness, IMO, at least for people with my inclinations. I need all the exercise I can get. Small steps still burn calories and count together for better physical fitness.
Raining here and oh so cozy in the forest. Snowing on Pikes Peak ⛄️❄️
Breakfast with sweet oldest daughter, trip to Sprouts afterwards…now home to snuggle in with a book.
We have Alexa and yes “she” will listen in. We play Pandora music on the device and enjoy it very much. We do hit the mute button to prohibit listening in…when we want to change music or turn off and on we must release the mute button for that. …we always have mute on
I had to laugh at Art enjoying the view of construction work. 🙂 It’s definitely a guy thing.
Home from the first re-check for yesterday’s surgery, will go back again in a week; discussed eyeglass issues that will be coming up with that department before I left the office.
Today it finally feels like fall here in Connecticut! As Nightingale said this morning, “It is a ‘Pumpkin Spice coffee’ kind of day.” It sure is! (I’m even a little chilly! But not complaining!)
Our second water heater was replaced this morning by our plumber, Jeff. He also takes away the old one. (We have two water heaters because of being a two-family house. The other one was replaced within the past year or so. Maybe a little longer.)
We have Alexa because we have the Ring camera doorbell. If we didn’t have that, I wouldn’t bother having the Alexa.
It’s cooling off here as well, I wore a sweatshirt to the dr. appt this morning and had a pumpkin muffin for breakfast.
I Saw another doctor for the followup appt today, 15-year-old surgeon must have been off doing teen stuff, getting ready for a prom or something. But I will say, I am grateful now for that “drop-less” surgery, I’d hate be juggling a bunch of drops on multiple schedules throughout the day right now (and going on for weeks to come).
We only get new tech when we are desperate, so we have no Alexa. The grown children do get us into some things, like the Kindles. If they lived closer the tech wouldn’t be so stressful when something goes wrong. Sigh to the lack of privacy from so many sources.
Also, cell phones are great for so much, but not getting away from the phone pretty much ever is less relaxing. Our grandchildren will know nothing different just as I have no memory of life without television. Such is the march of time and invention.
I love going to the movies, but it has been so long since one actually worth seeing appeared at the theater. I had hopes for the new movie based on an Agatha Christie story, but then I saw it included a seance.
No thanks.
Instead, I read about this movie on World today. Maybe this one will be worth watching?
The only reason we have the Ring doorbell camera is because of X having come to the house several months ago. That was the second time he had approached the house. (Remember, with the protection order for Nightingale, he is not allowed near the house, and probably not even on our private lane at all.)
The first time, he was driving down the lane, but then saw our neighbor looking at him, so he backed up and left.
So after the second incident, in which he was acting strangely, Nightingale decided to get the Ring camera. Eventually, I think she would like to have more of them positioned around the outside of the house. X is too unpredictable, and sometimes volatile, to ignore the possibility of him trying something here.
Yes, I remember talking to another teacher in my classroom. My iPad was on my desk with the cover closed, so off, I thought. We discussed grips to help with handwriting. I was shocked to see ads for the grips on my Facebook feed the next day
I fell asleep on the couch after a nice meal our dog-walking friend picked up from Matthews, the Meat and Two Sides cafeteria. I had catfish, mac and cheese, and collard greens. So good.

Good morning, all.
Happy birthday, little brother.
Praying, Janice. Nothing like a room with a view of construction.

The reason I was so excited about maybe going to the movies?
I finished the last major deadline this morning. It’s been 13 1/2 months of hard, tight deadlines, pressures, visitors, and other excitement.
I’m free.
Now maybe I can figure out what’s been growing in my vegetable garden . . .

@6:44, there’s good and bad (and in between) in all that technological progress.

Seems to mostly come down to how we human beings use it. The technologist itself is neutral.

Mumsee … 🙂 But again, some good things on the Internet (including even Twitter), depends on what the ‘user’ uses it for, however.

No Alexa or similar here either. Privacy matters to Mrs L so much that she even covers the camera on her phone.
And it does led to laziness. “Alexa, turn on the light, etc.” Why, we’d hardly get off our posteriors if we used it all the time.
