  1. Wray is corrupt, and has lied repeatedly under oath. He’s testified there was no coordinated effort. That’s clearly a lie.

    Time to impeach him too.

“FBI Richmond Office Worked With ‘Multiple Field Offices’ to Produce Memo Targeting ‘Radical Traditionalist Catholics’

“…we now know that the FBI relied on information from around the country—including a liaison contact in the FBI’s Portland Field Office and reporting from the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office.”

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2023/08/fbi-richmond-office-worked-with-multiple-field-offices-to-produce-memo-targeting-radical-traditionalist-catholics/

“I’m shocked, I’m telling you. SHOCKED.

You mean to tell me the FBI Richmond Field Office targeting us radical traditional Catholics wasn’t a one off thing?

Nope! Christopher Dunham, FBI Acting Assistant Director, told House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan that the Richmond office worked with multiple field offices to produce the memo targeting “radical traditionalist Catholics”:

The Committee on the Judiciary is continuing to conduct oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) assessment of traditional Catholics as potential domestic terrorists. From information recently produced to the Committee, we now know that the FBI relied on information from around the country—including a liaison contact in the FBI’s Portland Field Office and reporting from the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office—to develop its assessment. This new information suggests that the FBI’s use of its law enforcement capabilities to intrude on American’s First Amendment rights is more widespread than initially suspected and reveals inconsistencies with your previous testimony before the Committee. Given this startling new information, we write to request additional information to advance our oversight.

However, the document given to the committee is redacted. Jordan told Wray the committee keeps asking for the unredacted version.

The redacted version gave the committee enough information to pinpoint what information the three field offices exchanged:

The document cited reporting from an “FBI Portland liaison contact with indirect access” who informed on a “deceased [Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremist (RMVE)] subject” who had “sought out a mainline Roman Catholic community” and then “gravitated to [Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX)].” In addition, the document noted how an FBI undercover employee with “direct access” reported on a subject who “attended the SSPX-affiliated [redacted] Church in [redacted] California, for over a year prior to his relocation.” The document states that FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office initiated an investigation on the “RMVE subject.” Most concerning of all the newly produced version of the document explicitly states that FBI Richmond “[c]oordinated with” FBI Portland in preparing the assessment. Thus, it appears that both FBI Portland and FBI Los Angeles field offices were involved in or contributed to the creation of FBI’s assessment of traditional Catholics as potential domestic terrorists.

The Judiciary Committee already asked Wray to correct his testimony regarding free speech.

Jordan wants Wray to amend his testimony about the Richmond field office as well.

Jordan also wants all the documents and information related to:

    1. All documents and communications between the FBI’s Richmond Field Office and the FBI’s Portland Field Office referring or relating to the reporting cited in the January 23, 2023, Domain Prospective, entitled “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical-Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities”;

    2. All documents and communications between the FBI’s Richmond Field Office and the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office referring or relating to the reporting cited in the January 23, 2023, Domain Prospective, entitled “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical-Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities”;

    3. A list of FBI intelligence products that have also cited the reporting done by the FBI’s Richmond Field Office and the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, as well as any other investigations initiated based on the same; and

    4. Confirm the placement and access of the FBI’s Portland Field Office liaison contact with indirect access and the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office Undercover Employee with direct access.

Just a reminder that we are still seeing Catholic Churches vandalized and ruined since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Not a peep from the FBI.

The number is between 260 and 324.

But we’re the radicals because some of us still choose the Latin Mass and wear veils to Mass. We like to keep some of the traditions from before Vatican II.”

Newly released court documents from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit show that special counsel Jack Smith served Twitter with a search warrant for President Donald Trump’s account.

The Court held Twitter in contempt and fined the company $350,000 since it did not comply with the requests until three days after the deadline.

Trump hasn’t used his account since the previous ownership banned him from the platform.

Smith demanded Twitter to hand over all information regarding the Twitter account @realDonaldTrump. The search warrant included a “nondisclosure order that prohibited Twitter from notifying anyone about the existence or contents of the warrant.”

The district court found probable cause for the search warrant and nondisclosure agreement because if someone told Trump, he could delete information, destroy evidence, or even change his behavior patterns.

    Twitter appealed:

In this appeal, Twitter argues that the nondisclosure order violated the First Amendment and the Stored Communications Act; that the district court should have stayed its enforcement of the search warrant until after Twitter’s objections to the nondisclosure order were resolved; and that the district court abused its discretion by holding Twitter in contempt and imposing the sanction. We affirm the district court in all respects.

The Court found the government’s argument compelling because its “interest is heightened where an investigation has national security implications, for no governmental interest is more compelling than the security of the Nation.’”

Yes, the government is so trustworthy. The Court agreed with the district court (I took out footnotes and citations):

Thus, the government’s interest was particularly strong here because its ongoing investigation aimed to “[f]erret[] out activity intended to alter the outcome of a valid national election for the leadership of the Executive Branch of the federal government … and [to assess] whether that activity crossed lines into criminal culpability.” Moreover, secrecy is paramount to ensuring that ongoing investigations can proceed without interference from targets or interested parties. Breaching the investigation’s confidentiality could open the door to evidence-tampering, witness intimidation, or other obstructive acts. ([P]rotecting the secrecy of an investigation” is a compelling government interest.).

The Court also said the nondisclosure order was “narrowly tailored to advance the State’s compelling interest through the least restrictive means.” Therefore, “it withstood strict scrutiny.” It was only limited to 180 days.

    Trump responded:

Just found out that Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ secretly attacked my Twitter account, making it a point not to let me know about this major “hit” on my civil rights. My Political Opponent is going CRAZY trying to infringe on my Campaign for President. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Does the First Amendment still exist? Did Deranged Jack Smith tell the Unselects to DESTROY & DELETE all evidence? These are DARK DAYS IN AMERICA!”

  3. “Christopher Wray is a low-down dirty liar and should be gone”

    https://hotair.com/david-strom/2023/08/10/christopher-wray-is-a-low-down-dirty-liar-and-should-be-gone-n570196

“FBI Director Christopher Wray has a habit of lying before Congress.

This is in addition to his running the FBI like a secret police force determined to take down anybody the current regime dislikes.

None of this is news, but the evidence keeps piling up.

A month ago Jim Jordan of the House Judiciary Committee grilled FBI Director Wray about the infamous “Richmond” document in which the Field Office there described “opportunities” to surveil Catholic churches and recruit Catholic priests and parishioners to spy on supposed “radical traditional Catholics,” or what we like to call “Rad-Trads.”

“The distinguishing feature of Rad-Trads is their preference for the Latin Mass and pre-Vatican II practices. Unsurprisingly traditional Catholics are more likely to be conservative, pro-life, and vote Republican.

This, apparently, makes them likely terrorists. Perhaps the connection to Latin led the Richmond Field Office to mistake them for drug traffickers, but that seems unlikely.

Among the claims Wray to the Committee was a pretty specific one: the Richmond memo was the result of a rogue set of FBI agents who worked alone and didn’t represent a larger movement within the FBI to go after political conservatives. Wray assured us that he was deeply concerned about this and was investigating how it happened.

That investigation, by the way, was his excuse for withholding information from the committee, including redacting documents and not allowing the agents involved to speak to the committee. In itself, this is a bizarre standard, as there are no criminal charges involved and the Congress is charged with oversight of the Executive Branch. Is it now the case that any time the FBI or any other agency wants to hide information from Congress they can just claim they are “investigating” the matter and will tell Congress nothing?

Yesterday the House Oversight Committee released a less redacted version of the Richmond memo demonstrating that Wray deceived Jordan and the Judiciary Committee.”

“In other words, the FBI redacted the document in order to hide the fact that the effort to label conservative Catholics as terrorists was wider than was already known.

Remember the tempest this year when the Federal Bureau of Investigation was found to be targeting some Catholics as “extremists?” The bureau cast it as the work of a single rogue field office. Well, it looks like the effort was more widespread than our G-men admitted to the public.

That’s the news from a less-redacted internal FBI document released Wednesday by the House Judiciary Committee. Chairman Jim Jordan wants more information from the FBI on how broad this investigation really was.

This story began in February when a whistleblower leaked a heavily redacted January report from the FBI’s Richmond office: “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical-Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities.”

The document defined “radical-traditionalist Catholics” as those who attend the Latin Mass and who frequently adhere to “anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, and white supremacist ideology.” The agents relied on half-baked “open-source” reporting from liberal outlets to justify more bureau investigation.

FBI headquarters quickly said the report didn’t meet its “exacting standards” and had been withdrawn. FBI Director Christopher Wray told the Judiciary Committee in July that the report was “a single product by a single field office.” He added that “as soon as I found out about it, I was aghast and ordered it withdrawn and removed from FBI systems,” and he said he began an internal probe.

Knowing a few Rad-Trads, I can assure you they are neither anti-Semitic nor white supremacist. They are likely to oppose open borders, but then so are most Americans. “Anti-LGBTQ” is probably accurate as far as it goes, although not in the sense that they seek to do violence against gays and lesbians.

There are no roving bands of Rad-Trads blowing things up or beating random gay people. They are, if nothing else, too busy raising a passel of kids. Rad-Trads have a lot of kids, you know.

Maybe that is why the Left hates them.

So what did Wray lie about specifically?

On July 25 the FBI finally provided the committee with a less-redacted version of that Richmond document. The report says that its information on Catholics was “primarily derived” from an “FBI Richmond contact”; an “FBI Portland liaison contact” who informed on a subject who “gravitated to” traditionalist catholicism; and an “FBI Undercover Employee” who reported on a subject who attended a Catholic church in California.

It also says the FBI’s Los Angeles field office “initiated an investigation” into a subject, and that the Richmond office “[c]oordinated with” FBI Portland to prepare the field report. In other words, this was a widespread bureau effort. Why was this suspicion about religion so widespread at the FBI?

Also troubling is the FBI’s decision to redact the Portland and Los Angeles roles from the original version of the Richmond document it provided Congress in March. In a letter with the less-redacted version, acting assistant FBI director Christopher Dunham said the redactions had been necessary to protect “information specific to ongoing criminal investigations.”

A person “gravitated to” traditionalist Catholicism! Horrors!

As is clear by now our “Catholic” president is intensely hostile to pro-lifers and has essentially declared open season on Pro-life pregnancy centers, and now we learn that the FBI had what appears to be a more widespread effort to monitor traditional Catholics. The FBI is hiding the ball behind a non-criminal “investigation” that should be done in coordination with, not in opposition to Congressional oversight.”

  4. It’s about time folks on the right, and assorted NTers are finally getting a clue here.

    https://hotair.com/david-strom/2023/08/09/why-are-so-many-people-determined-to-defend-donald-trump-including-me-n570173

“Donald Trump is guilty. The only remaining question is what he is guilty of.” Who thinks like that?

Totalitarians, like Soviet Secret Policeman Lavrentiy Beria, who famously said “Show me the man and I will show you the crime” do.

That Max Boot, a prominent neoconservative, could become so twisted that his hatred of Trump that he became a distorted version of a Soviet secret policeman should be amazing, but it is actually quite a common occurrence in the annals of Trump hatred.

Totalitarianism is a small price to pay if Donald Trump is put behind bars.

I do not doubt the essential high-mindedness of many NeverTrumpers. Many of them I once respected as thoughtful men and women, often idealists. Of course, most Trump antagonists are motivated by less noble goals, seizing an opportunity for money or power, or fame. Think the Lincoln Project types making a nice living off of Donald Trump.

Partisan Democrats have an obvious reason to hate Trump and destroy him and his. That they would break the law and undermine American values is quite on brand for them.

What they all have in common is a blindness or indifference to the facts: Donald Trump is many things, but a traitor or insurrectionist he is not.

Moreover, he actually abused his power as president less than most. Perhaps this is so because he was less sophisticated in the ways of Washington than his cosmopolitan predecessor and successor, but the reality is that both Obama and Biden abused the intelligence and justice systems and turned them into their personal Stasi, while Trump did not.

Trump never sent the FBI to raid Hillary Clinton’s or Joe Biden’s house. Guess who did?

Trump SAID “Lock her up,” but left her alone. Biden is actually trying to lock up Trump and has turned the Justice Department into his family’s legal team. His Justice Department just tried to give a plenary “get out of jail free” card to his son by deceiving a judge. Imagine if Trump did such a thing.

I re-read Boot’s piece and one thing stands out above others: most of the “evidence” he marshals is complete tripe, made up by Trump’s enemies. Invented out of whole cloth, or distorted beyond recognition. It is, in a word, embarrassing. Just as embarrassing is that Foreign Policy, an establishment mouthpiece if there ever was one, published this junk.

Except Trump’s opponents, who see themselves as defending decency, have abandoned it and are incapable of embarrassment. How many have apologized to Trump or their own readers for pushing the Steele Dossier? For claiming that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election? For any of their crazy theories spun out of the fever dreams spawned by their obsessive hatred of Trump?

None, as far as I know. They still are focused on killing the Great Orange Whale, because that is their mission in life. Nothing else matters, including the burning down of this country.

I have made it quite clear that I do not like Trump and think he is a bad human being. And while I think he is the better choice than Joe Biden in 2024, I sincerely hope that somebody else is the Republican nominee. America can do better.

But Trump’s opponents are far worse still than Trump. Their obsession has led to the self-destruction of the MSM, the utter corruption of our justice system, the FBI lying to the FISA Court, the mass censorship of Americans, and so many other harms to America. Their hysteria has divided the country and led to much unnecessary hatred.

Defending Trump is a tiring and thankless task, like mucking a pigpen. We all wish it didn’t have to be done, and it is easy to resent the pig for crapping where he lives.

But it isn’t the pig’s fault it must be done.

The alternative is to let the crap fester and disease become ineradicable.”

Trump and his lawyers are requesting a “Scif” at Mar a lago. A Scif is a special compartmental information facility where top secret documents can be examined. In effect, his lawyers and Trump are admitting that the documents at Mar a lago were classified, top secret and improperly stored. Just plead guilty now and save the country some grief.

  6. Issue One in Ohio lost by 57% to 43%. The idea was to change the constitutional amendment threshold from 50+1 to 60% and increase the number of signatures needed to have an amendment placed on a ballot. The latter asked for 5% from each county as opposed to half the counties (which gives more power to rural counties). Now 60% isn’t an over the top request – other states ask for 60%; however, it was obvious that this amendment was put forward in August so it would affect an abortion rights amendment in November. Of note, Republicans created an Augusts special election shortly after they banned August special elections.

For me the interesting point is the number of voters and issues of polls. Although some polls correctly predicted the outcome some were predicting a very close vote. Pollsters are still having difficulty adjusting to new voting patterns. Traditionally “likely” voters were thought to be more accurate but now all but Rasmussen have switched to registered voters. “Likely” was based on traditional voting patterns – especially the fact young people did not vote in large numbers. A move to registered voters should make polls more accurate but pollsters are still selecting demographics based on past voting behaviour. They are simply not including enough young people.

Unlike Gen-X, Millennials and post-millennials are voting in their youth and there are a lot of them. I noticed this already in 2020, but in post-Roe elections it has become even more striking. In 2022, the “likely” voter polls were predicting a red wave while the registered voters pools were far closer and in the end more accurate. Young people are actually voting and they are voting Democratic. Republican strategists know this but instead of creating a platform to attract the young they are making it more difficult for young people to vote – for example, taking polls off college campuses. Every day people turn 18 and the Democrats get more voters.

Democrats suck, but sure, it was Trump destroying all our norms….. 🙄

“California Supreme Court: No Right to In-Person Cross-Examination of Accuser During Campus Sexual Assault Proceedings

The court highlighted the need to keep the accuser from ‘being retraumatized by the disciplinary process.’ Critics challenged this reasoning, arguing a Title IX proceeding exists to determine whether trauma occurred in the first place.”

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2023/08/california-supreme-court-no-right-to-in-person-cross-examination-of-accuser-during-campus-sexual-assault-proceedings/

“The California Supreme Court unanimously sided with the University of Southern California in a dispute over in-person questioning of an accuser and witnesses during Title IX proceedings at private universities.

USC expelled Matthew Boermeester for alleged intimate partner violence after a two-month Title IX investigation without allowing live cross-examination of his accuser and witnesses against him, either by Boermeester or a third party. The California Court of Appeal ruled against USC, which appealed.

At the time of Title IX proceedings against Boermeester, USC allowed individuals subject to a Title IX investigation to question the accuser in writing only. The Title IX investigator would then ask the accuser these questions outside the accused’s presence.

“This is a deeply troubling decision,” Justin Dillon, counsel for Families Advocating for Campus Equality, told Legal Insurrection. FACE, which “support[s] and advocate[s] for equal treatment and due process for those affected by inequitable Title IX campus disciplinary processes,” submitted a brief supporting Boermeester.

Boermeester asked the court to apply California’s doctrine of fair procedure to private university disciplinary proceedings, find that USC had failed to observe that doctrine by refusing to allow live questioning of the accuser and witnesses, and reverse his expulsion. The court declined, in a decision praised by USC.”

Trump’s lawyers also screwed up when they publicly announced that their strategy would be to delay and delay some more. Of course, a judge won’t take their claim to need more time seriously.

The Hunter Biden saga is a story of the boy who cried wolf. How many times can Jordan, Comer, Kennedy, and Grassley claim they have irrefutable evidence or witnesses, but then fail. No wonder people stop paying attention. At most they have shown that politicians kids get favours – we all know that already; immoral and unethical but not illegal.

Every time Republicans complain about the Jan 6 cmttee is one more reason they should have participated.

You’re right – the connection between gov’t regulators and the industries they regulate is an incestuous affair; but its been that way for decades. This isn’t a partisan issue; it’s a governmental issue. And Trump did nothing to stop it in his four years either.

PACs are corrupt?? Citizens United was a bad decision?? shocked.

Nothing weird about a police force eg FBI producing damaging information about someone they killed. That’s their M.O. He was high; he was selling illegal cigarettes; he might have had a gun; he had a juvenile record; etc etc. I’m surprised right wing populists see this as weird.
