I was very confused at first viewing of the header then determined they were fish of some type. Where did you see them, AJ?
We are in suspense in Atlanta. At least we may get a break today from the storms. It’s a cool 75°. One lady with four children does not know what she will do after three trees came down on their house yesterday. That happened in Decatur which is our mailing address.
That picture makes me think of visiting my grandparents. Grandma had a good size fish pond at each of the three houses they lived in when I was growing up, full of big koi and smaller goldfish. One of the delights of our early childhood was getting to feed the fish at Grandma’s. I remember throwing in oatmeal and watching them come up to gobble it.
There was a story – I don’t remember this, I was pretty young – about when Grandma tied a string to a pole and tied a piece of bread on the other end of the string and gave it to me to “go fishing” in her pond. Apparently I jerked the string up while a fish was attached to it, and panicked at the fish flopping around on the grass. Fortunately Grandma was there to throw it back in.
My neighbors have a koi pond in their backyard. I’d feed them when they were out of town and they’d all rush over to the edge, frantic, as soon as I’d appear at the side of the pond, mouths wide open. 🙂
A mosquito apparently made it into my bedroom last night, new bites! Ugh. Back to the ’round-the-clock repellant routine.
It’s owned by a friend and her family from church. They have a nice little store, baked goods, fruits and veggies, and a huge ice cream operation in the warm months.
My folks had a pond with Koi. They had a rock garden and made two ponds with a bridge across. The water fell down the rock in a water fall and then into the ponds. There was a curved bridged which went between and over the stream. My dad would let the children feed the fish. The water lilies would be so beautiful. My sister also had a pond and a huge tank she kept in a back room in her house. She had to keep a screen over the top as the fish would sometimes jump out. They grew quite large.
We, also, have a heron pond. When we first developed it, I had visions of a stream and waterfall and bridge. Instead, we got children. Now our pond is a dirty mess without even the fountain. I add water periodically but never feed the fish.
The birds enjoy the water for baths, swallows swoop down for insects and drinks, herons grab the occasional snack, cats grab fish regularly, insects, snakes, frogs, toads, dragon and damsel flies, butterflies. The fish continue to reproduce.
Long ago I used to run a couple of remote control boats on it and the fish would swim up to inspect the boats.
AJ, that Eight Generations farm website has made me hungry, and I just ate my chicken sandwich for lunch! You are blessed to have that nesrby and know the family!
A woman in my ladies’ Bible study shared this beautiful song about Creation that I had never heard. I think she heard it in person. It’s not rock or praise, more like the three tenors as a warning. The words are awe inspiring.
I once had a goldfish/koi pond with a rippling little waterfall and a weeping willow. It was beautifully landscaped. The bullfrogs would sing so loud I had to sleep with ear plugs. Once the neighbor had to come over and deal with a snake. Once ex-husband slipped in it while cleaning it and we spent the night in the ER while BG spent her very first night away from me with Nana and Pop.
Then BG started walking and I lost my mind with fear that she would tottle off into it and drown so it was ripped up and filled.
Good morning! Very colorful Koi. Have a great day.

I went to Walmart and forgot that it would be back to school sales. Maybe I will give some of these things as Christmas gifts.
All of those supplies are just too tempting for me
