  1. Good morning, all, in real time as opposed to the real time.

We are looking at cooler temps, potential rain, potential thunderstorms, but I am watering just in case nothing comes of it.

  2. Living in the present of a pretty Saturday morning here on the west coast.

Yesterday, we went on a double-date for the first time in ages into San Francisco. This is only the second time I’ve been to San Francisco in 3.5 years when I wasn’t driving to the airport.

(The other time we went to an exhibit featuring giant photos of the Sistine Chapel).

We visited the Legion of Honor where we reveled in the Tudor exhibit. Our friends are also art-loving history-loving fun, fun, folks and what a fun day!

We even ate lunch at the museum restaurant like real classy San Franciscans.

And since all four of us knew a lot about Henry VII, VIII, Edward VII, Mary, and Elizabeth I, the conversation was lively (as it always is with that duo anyway).

Day 5 of real life feels great. 🙂

  3. So I actually got out in my kayak yesterday. Avoided a lot of mishaps, like falling while turning it over as my sandal caught under the edge of the boat. New life jacket was terrible and would not allow me to sit up. I will see if I can return it today. Still good to get out. grandson had a great time and daughter had little sister in her boat. Funny when she let her paddle for a bit.

When we got back, she was going to let the kids paddle and play in the roped off swimming area. Right about then someone came and put up a sign that the beach was closed due to ecoli. Yikes and we had just been in the water. They did not send out any alerts so I will go in to complain on Monday.

We packed everything up and left for my house.
My kayak is 11 feet long and does not fit in my car without the back open.

After they left I went over to the pool as I was already in my suit.

Last night I used ice and a heating pad at different parts of my back. Early to bed for me.

  4. I listened to an excellent sermon on Facebook this morning from a Scottish pastor. It’s always amazing how God leads one to ‘find’ things. It got my interest because it spoke about Jesus and the crowd which our visiting pastor addressed last Sunday. God is awesome day by day.

I am listening to a cd by the Gettys that Wes found at the store where we took a car full of donations.

  5. The sermon even touched on some of the political squabbles of the times in which we live. If you have time, give it a listen . . . (I was not looking for it but happened upon it by looking at a cat lover’s posts):

  6. The dog trainer came over after I was off work yesterday and we spent over an hour (this is one of the trainers from the dog obedience club I belong to so I trust them; she also lives near me).

She could see how shy Abby is and told me at the end that she often can get dogs in cars when owners say they can’t, but not this time, so it’s not “me.” She said it will take time (and gave me exercises and steps to do with her that will make it happen, she thinks) but forcing a shy dog will only backfire. That’s what my concern was after I’d had help lifting her into the car those two times so I could get her to the dog park; I didn’t do that again, thinking I really needed to have an assessment by a trainer first.

She did say Abby’s clearly bonded with me, sees me as her “safe” person (she went behind me when the trainer came into our space initially) which she said is very good and I can build on that to get her to “check” in with me via eyes regularly so she learned more to look to me.

We have a couple training things to do, “paws up” (on something) being one of them. And she said to just put good treats out on the floor ledge of the car with the back door open daily so she’ll get used to eating from there … then the treats can be moved further in and once she does a “paws up” onto the car’s interior, we’ll be on our way.

Happy Saturday everyone — it’s cool here this morning. I have (too many) things to take care of in the house and need also to water at the end of the day.

  7. That trainer’s advice seems right on target, Dj! Good things often take time. She has broken down the process into more steps which seems perfect to accomplish your goal. And although you miss the other pets, it’s so good you have only this one to focus on because she needs it!

  8. I decided to drive the backroads to Elizabeth and had a lovely time meeting new shoppe owners and chatting with the regulars in town. I saw the sheep grazing in the pasture which always brings a smile. On my way home I noted the skies were dark to the east but felt I was safely heading more southwest. I realized the black clouds were coming my way. I pulled over to take a photo of a funnel cloud that had touched down…by the time I found my camera feature on my phone it had lifted. I floored it to get home. Torrential rain began falling and thankfully the hail was slushy pea size. Whew! A neighbor posted a photo of a funnel cloud that had formed right behind my car! We now have blue skies once again.

Sweet Abby…thankful you two found each other!❣️

  9. Saw that funnel cloud photo on FB, NJ.

I’ve been busy tackling the long overdue chores in the house. Made progress! And that feels good.

Thank you for the kind comments about Abby. I keep a friend up to date with her at church but he’s older and not a “dog” person so he’ll always ask “Do you think you’ll keep her?”

It always surprises me as I’d never think of not keeping an animal unless there were dire circumstances! Abby’s a sweetheart with just a couple rough edges. 🙂 But we all come with a few of those, man and beast alike, amen?

  10. One of my daughters watched The Hiding Place which has just come out and said it was awesome. Applause broke out at the end. Anyone here see it? I don’t know if it will ever come here.

  11. I had no idea there was a new Hiding Place so I just researched the showings. The site indicated it would only be shown in select theaters on the 3rd and 5th of August. It did not indicate any showings near me. Hopefully it will come out on DVD.

  12. Good morning all. Church at home this morning as it is church potluck. I will take my stint at home so two children can go potluck, they enjoy that, I don’t.

Rough night as my dad is reversing day and night. Heard him hollering if anybody was home around eleven thirty last night. My dad never raises his voice, let alone hollers. I got up and explained the time. He insisted I had overslept after a wild night ( he may have noticed we had company for dinner last night). So I settled him in his chair with the family movies on YouTube and went back to bed. Husband got up with him. After a couple hours, dad went back to bed. Then a raccoon was after the chickens so I got up to shine a light on that. Tired day.

  13. Wow, Mumsee, a lot of commotion in the night at The Nest. Maybe you can catch a nap at some point?

We currently have thunder and rain which seems unusual in the middle of the day. It was sunny when we left the church service.

Great service today with a lot of recognition of teachers. The sermon was from Acts about multiplying and making new disciples. Very evangelistic. I appreciate that about my church.

  14. I was doggie-sitting Janie while Nightingale and Boy went camping for the weekend. Unfortunately, Janie had diarrhea, and had some accidents on the tile at the bottom of their stairs. But I was thankful that it was on the tile there rather than on the carpet upstairs. Tile is much easier to clean. Still yucky and stinky, though.

Unfortunately for me, I lost sleep on both ends of the nights they were gone. I had a very hard time getting to sleep, especially Friday night, and then heard Janie barking that she had to go out potty earlier than I wanted to get up. This morning it was much earlier, and I was exhausted.

(My heart goes out to you, Mumsee, for your own loss of sleep.)

After Janie went potty outside (including pooping again), I took her upstairs to put her back in her crate, hoping to get some more sleep. That’s when I noticed that she had had an accident in there. So Janie had to stay downstairs with me instead, and I stayed home from church to keep an eye on her and put her out as often as she would need.

I also texted Nightingale about it and asked for her to come home instead of going to the amusement park they were going to spend the rest of the day at.

  15. Something that has been happening on this site recently: The avatars of those who don’t have special-made ones are not coming through right. They are a circle with a little square in the upper left. I haven’t seen anybody else mention this. Is it just my laptop that is doing this, or are others having this happen, too?

  16. Okay, I am a double circle around a white square around a blue square with a question mark inside. As is Jo,DJ, Michelle, Debra, and the real on the first post of this thread. You guys don’t see the white question mark inside the blue box inside the white square….?
