  1. Good morning! The bunny was along the trail going up to the ranger tower on Wayah Bald. A younger bunny was hopping nearby while this one stayed still. I was surprised to be able to get so close for a photo.

We also saw a drone go by several times while on the tower which seemed so out of place in the peaceful quiet.

  2. Good morning, all. A beautiful day here. I have been out several times today for this and that. I noticed a new to me apple tree in the midst of the bird cherries. Must be growing from the root of the weeping crab apple. We had one out there a few years ago that sprang up, bore the most delicious summer apples, and then blew over!

  3. Hi, Mumsee. How do you label the apples if you don’t get them pre-labeled in a store? Were they red, pink, yellow, or green (like Granny Smith, green when ripe)? I recently bought two bags of apples labeled Pink Lady from Kroger, but they appear more like red apples in the wrong packaging.

  4. Morning! Cute little bunny feeling very safe around the human picture taker!

Word continues to be a pain on this iPad….

We had another torrential rain last night and another moved through as we tried to sleep through all the racket! I’ve never seen CO so green…and I am thankful..

Day at home to clean, laundry, stitch and read….relaxing for the most part!

  5. We have a Norland apple tree (mostly red when ripe with some green) and another apple tree that we don’t know (it was here when we arrived) that is a transparent type, pale yellowish green and slightly tart. It does not keep long after picking but is super for baking because you don’t need to peel it first.

Apple trees up here in the north are grafted to a hardy root stock like a crabapple to survive our winters.

  6. We’ve got an apple tree with several different varieties grafted in. I lost the list long ago and so we just guess and enjoy.

MacIntosh are splendid in New England. Here, we love the Gravensteins.

I’ve just been out there, finally, chopping and lopping. It may be time to plant pansies for the dead spots.

And the strawberries continue, zucchini–I hate to look–and apparently green beans.

I think I’ll scavange for dinner. I just gave a cucumber to my neighbor.

I’m so happy it’s August–11 months of deadlines and work behind!

I’ll think about September closer to September. 🙂

  7. I’ll be embarking on a major backyard tree-trimming project, which may have to be done in segments depending on costs. I have several huge (and now very overgrown) long-established trees in the back and it’s beyond time to cut them back.

Contacted the gardener who only replied “ok” so at least I know he received the text, guess he’ll be in touch on the specifics.

  8. I love the Wave petunias for the same reason, kare. No deadheading and very beautiful. I have a beautiful double pink regular petunia that I do have to deadhead. I learned something new this year. In July I cut back the petunias halfway down the stem. Of course, this removes most of the flowers. Then you add some fertilizer pellets. The plants recover and are no longer ‘leggy.’ This was very good advice if any of you have petunias and were not aware of it.

My mother had famous gardens and sold plants; however, she never planted her own petunias. She never really liked them for some reason. So, I never learned this trick from her. It may be something new, too. Whatever, it works well, so I will try to remember it for next year.

  9. spent 40 minutes exercising in the pool today so now it is time to get out the ice.
I saw a new schedule out today and it says that our pool is open until the end of October. I had no idea. That will help me get stronger.

I wanted to take my grandson kayaking in the lake we have here. But my daughter called and said that she would cut work early and she would come to. That will probably be safer and better. My first time in my kayak in a number of years.
