Good morning, all. A beautiful day here. A comfortable sixty five here in the house, though, no doubt, my dad will have something to say as he comes out here!
I am down to 4 hard plastic plates,salad plates, bowls, and 3 coffee cups (I had to fight for the 3rd cup). He’s packed up almost all of the spices, vinegars, and other seasoning.
He started telling me how many times he had moved so we counted and I won. So he stopped schooling me.
We took Little Miss with us for the walk through yesterday. Later she told her mommy the kitchen was pretty, the bathroom was pretty, and the carpet was soft.
The chicken with the strawberry/pepper jelly sounds good. The varieties are amazing. My dad loved marmalade, but was the only one who used it, so we didn’t have it often.
What a treat those jellies and jams must have been when storing fresh fruits was much more of a challenge. We are so spoiled to have so much available to us these days. I imagine, however, it is still a big treat to families with a low income.
We will just break 70 today. Yesterday was warmer, but not unbearable even though my husband’s group had to play outdoors during an assisted living picnic/car show. The cars and music are great for bringing guests and residents some entertainment and topics for conversation. Those with some real dementia issues enjoy it as well. I was glad for no rain. It was smokey, but that seems to be the norm this summer, sadly.
Today there is a big gathering of groups that do Christian music, including our praise team from our church and our pastor’s band. He does more of a harder rock, which is not our type of tea. Tomorrow the church has one of two outdoor services in a row, combining with another church which is just down the street from us. It seems all these churches could combine. I suppose that has, often, been true, though. The churches used to be separated by countries of origin. That is mainly not true around here anymore. I know that is true in some areas with all Ethiopians or other nationalities. In heaven I would think we would all be together, but who knows? Being a brother or sister in Christ certainly transcends any national borders.
Kim, I just had to laugh at the Mr’s packing, because I had a friend who recently downsized from a house into an apartment. Her husband packed much the same way and he only had to go through his own stuff. Fortunately, they had a daughter who bought their house, because they have gone back for stuff quite often. The sexes are just plain different, although can be more obsessive/compulsive. I do not look forward to having to do this ourselves one day. It will be nice if it becomes unnecessary. Heaven will be a far nicer move. 🙂
My 93 y/o friend’s son bought her house to rent out. He has good renters because they still have boxes of my friend’s belongings in the basement that they deliver to her along for her to go through.
There’s a lot going on in that pic. There’s a heron, a few swallows, some geese, and a whole ton of turtles on the log on the right. The swans and cormorants are off to the right just off screen.
I hope those who were able went to church today. We had a visiting pastor from Arkansas who did an excellent sermon. He is from a large church and is over missions. That was his focus. i know my pastor wants our church to be a sending church. I hope some hearts were stirred to go that route. I know it is the history of this old church to have done that in the past.
We went to church. I had not been in three weeks and it was wonderful being back worshiping together once again.
Early this morning my cousin texted letting me know her Mom had passed on to be with our Lord. And while at church her brother texted telling me the same. Auntie Meg had be in a bad way for the past couple months and I am thankful the Lord brought her home…she was 95. I am waiting to see if it is possible for me to fly home to be with them for a couple of days…
We had a special treat today, Pastor Pan from the Chinese (“Mayflower”) church was in the pulpit with a translator. The message was on passages out of Exodus (which makes so much sense considering their long journey to the US that happened only several months ago).
He said the false Gods in China are money and power, but not so different from the situation here, he also noted, though we’d added being “happy” and enjoying a “good life.”
He preached at our church once before, in 2017 on a rare visit that was arranged. Our pastor had met him and his church on one of his (our pastor’s) visits to China probably around 2010 or so when things were a little looser (though many of the churches, including Pastor Pan’s, were meeting mostly underground as they were feeling the heat of the authorities). One of our elders went on the (two) trips as well when they aired books and provided some instruction from the Westminster Confession of Faith.
So moving as Pastor Pan also led us in Communion. He’s had an ongoing correspondence with our pastor and said in addition to the many books our pastor has provided for them, Pastor Pan was especially moved by our practice of observing communion weekly; so the Mayflower church began doing that as well 2 years ago and said it’s been such a blessing.
Many US churches, missionaries and some 30 members of Congress were instrumental in their final journey to freedom. Pastor Pan noted that those government officials were part of what God used for them in their very long and trying journey.
After church I caught up with several folks, some I’m in touch with online during the week but some I hadn’t chatted with in a while. Then I had stops at the pharmacy, UPS store (for an Amazon return) and Sprouts before getting home.
Which is why I always have a small copy of the hobbit or trilogy when I go anywhere, especially anywhere with husband. Who just needs to stop here for a second….
I always take with me something to read when I go to an appointment.
It was funny when Nightingale and I were waiting for a couple hours at the DMV for me to get my non-driver ID. I was reading World magazine, and everyone else was reading stuff on their phones. I just don’t like reading on my phone.
Or looking at websites, either. It seems that I can navigate them better on my laptop screen.

July is half over! And it has turned hot and humid here. It’s a good day to stay inside and clean out a closet.

We’re getting the smoke from Canada again, so much so that the sun was a giant red ball last evening as it headed for the horizon.

I hope those who were able went to church today. We had a visiting pastor from Arkansas who did an excellent sermon. He is from a large church and is over missions. That was his focus. i know my pastor wants our church to be a sending church. I hope some hearts were stirred to go that route. I know it is the history of this old church to have done that in the past.

We did. Well, seventeen stayed home with grandpa but fifteen and I went.

I went to the pool but it was closed due to excessive heat. That just doesn’t make sense in less the life guards were in danger
