As I said last night, acceptance doesn’t have to mean agreement, but accepting individuals in our lives as valuable human beings worthy of love and care. Not accepting or agreeing to all of their decisions and actions. (We don’t do that with any of the people we love.)
It is the way I accept my daughter as a valuable young woman who is currently very confused and deceived, while not agreeing with what is going in with her.
Accepting people does not mean you endorse their decisions, opinions or lifestyle. It’s simply an acknowledgement of a shared humanity.
As for pride parades, parents who take their children to these parades consent to the behaviour that occurs or are extremely naive. The nudity and semi-nudity in pride parades has been going on for decades; parents should know what they are exposing their children to. Hence, I never took my daughter to the Toronto Pride Parade – she went on her own when she was in her teens.
