  1. Good rainy morning!
10 years ago we were being evacuated due to the Black Forest fire in which many of my closest friends lost their homes.
Today we are pondering whether or not we should build an ark!!

  2. Kizzie, I read through the post about whether or not a daughter was offered as a sacrifice in the book of Judges. I think it was posted on here at one time, too. I just wanted to share my thoughts about it.

I do not know Hebrew, so couldn’t definitively say whether what the guy wrote is significant or not. I do want to say, though, that the whole book of Judges shows the downward spiral of Israel away from the Lord. Also, not everything done in scripture ‘unto the Lord’ is actually something that God has required or wants.

It is possible that the apostasy and idol worship was so great that many of the people thought nothing of human sacrifice. The people who killed the concubine were people of Israel. That is only one example in the book. I believe we, too often, want to excuse what is shown in Scripture to defend our beliefs or God. It ultimately is not helpful to others or us. Everyone who claims to do something unto the Lord is not really doing that either, which we see in several places in the bible. It is all worth studying and discussing.

The story of Abraham and Isaac is also significant about how God’s people were when first chosen. Judges is what they were reduced to again. Fortunately, God has always had a remnant.

We can see a similar thing happening in the church today, IMO.

  3. Exactly, Kathleen. None of these stories can be read out of context–which the “world” never seems to know.

(Well, maybe because so many people live their lives out of context, not to mention thinking about history).

  4. My friend and I had a wonderful walk through another wildlife area about two miles from here. We saw two different types of heron.

Sweetie, the pit bull, had a great time. We discovered a part of this trail system on the other side of the pond/wetland area where I had never been before.

My friend had always wanted to go to this area and never had the opportunity before. The weather in the shade was great though in the sun it felt hot with the temp going up close to 90° today.

It’s fun to show a person little pockets of the community, where they have lived all their life, that they never knew existed.

This park has a few granite outcropings from Stone Mountain. It is the park where I took Wesley when he did his homeschool unit on poetry and we hiked and wrote haiku along the way. I had never written haiku before then.

  5. Sounds like a nice walk, Janice, and glad the dog got to go along.

A 90-degree high sounds wilt-worthy. We’re still enjoying (well, I am, anyway) June gloom with high temps in the mid-60s and plenty of marine layer/cloud cover.

It was a busy work week, yesterday especially as it appears the longshore contract discussions blew up Thursdaynight and are stalled, at least for now, again. It’s been over a year of talks with no signed agreement. Job actions now being taken at ports up and down the coast so the story will continue.

  6. … Enjoying seeing all the photos and live feeds from Iowa where I spent so much time growing up. The one enjoyable part of the campaign season every 4 years. Go Iowa.

  7. Being in the shade with a breeze for most of the walk, the temp was probably around 76°. It is deep shade with the tall old tree canopy. We did not find any mosquitoes which was nice. I have not seen any at our home yard either, probably due to such low humidity. A few plants are starting to look wilty for lack of rain.

  8. The dog has the best temperment and does not bark at people or other dogs but would be protective if necessary. She does want to go first on the trail so my friend allows her to do that. I thought I had said my goodbyes to the dog before I got out of the car, but I had to go back to the open window and do a very intentional goodbye😃

  9. Well I did a little bit of weed eating. Everything is dry and overgrown and there are lots of things in the way. Oh, pick up that log you say??? It is quite overwhelming. But little by little I will get it done. Haven’t heard anything from my friend who was going to bring her grandchildren to work. I could certainly use a whole crew.

  10. Kathaleena – I shared that as a perspective to consider, not necessarily as the definitive word on the subject. But I forgot to add a preface to my post to clarify that. I understand that people in those times were not following the Lord and His ways as they should have been, and often did egregious things.

But I also thought that this article made some good points for the view that the girl was dedicated to the Lord, wherein she would remain single, which is why she bewailed her virginity in particular.

Both views have “points” on their side.

For those who wouldn’t have seen my post on Facebook, here is the article we are talking about:

  11. My king-size bed is made up of two twins put together, with a king-size headboard. Heidi usually likes to sleep on what was Hubby’s bed, although she goes through phases of sleeping right against me. Since she is old now, and having trouble jumping up on the bed, I have a thing that acts like a step for her to jump onto that, and then onto the bed.

Sometimes I will hear her giving a little woof, because my cat Rudy will be at the end of the bed, or on the step, making Heidi nervous. 🙂

  12. Abby’s too big for my bed, sadly. But her X-Large dog bed is on the floor right next to my bed. Still, sometimes she puts her front paws and head up on my bed where I can pet her.

  13. Morning! Raining still and a grateful heart for the moisture.

Now if we could just get these moths to skedaddle out of here… but our birds are having great fun catching them for a quick meal!!

  14. Good morning from sunshine. We are making progress on the weeds but taking today off. The cherry trees are filled full this year, hoping for a nice harvest.

  15. It’s chilly, overcast, and a little windy here in northern Connecticut. We’ve had rain on and off since yesterday.

The day before yesterday, and the day before that, were up to 90 degrees. Yesterday and today are in the mid-50s.

  16. It’s cooler here, more overcast today, and it had rained a little while we were at church. Thankful Art went today. He got to hear the pastor’s sermon on relihious liberty which was very good. He based it on the passage about paying taxes and whose face appesrs on the coin. Thankful to hear that eleven faith leaders such as Christian and Muslim are working together regarding the Non-Discrimination” ordinance that discriminates against people of faith.

  17. We were almost 90 degrees again. The mosquitoes were even bothersome inside the building in town! The minister leading the memorial service and giving a sermon was fighting one off. I think the friend who was memorialized would have been very happy with the large turnout. The group my husband plays with all did a song that he had requested before or sung himself. They finished with amplifying a recording of him singing a song while they all played along on their instruments live. He sang that song many times with them. It was nice to hear him again when his voice was strong. Parkinsons robbed him of a strong voice, but he sang almost to the end.

We had a family graduation party earlier, so missed our church service. We did listen to a bit of it before having to leave for the party. While there we met another of my husband’s relative who is having a party next weekend. We can’t make it to that one, so I will just send a gift and card. The funny thing was that my husband had no idea who the grad invite was from. I had to introduce him to his niece’s daughter, and they actually live in our area. It a stepsibling’s family. It is much nicer to see relatives at a happy event, rather than a funeral.

  18. I was trying to be patient but it turns out that my friend totally forgot about bringing her grands here for yard work. And now she has a cold
I think she will get it together now. Just a week before the deadline
