Prayer Requests 12-10-20

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her former students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 119:17-32

ג Gimel

17 Be good to your servant while I live,
    that I may obey your word.
18 Open my eyes that I may see
    wonderful things in your law.
19 I am a stranger on earth;
    do not hide your commands from me.
20 My soul is consumed with longing
    for your laws at all times.
21 You rebuke the arrogant, who are accursed,
    those who stray from your commands.
22 Remove from me their scorn and contempt,
    for I keep your statutes.
23 Though rulers sit together and slander me,
    your servant will meditate on your decrees.
24 Your statutes are my delight;
    they are my counselors.

ד Daleth

25 I am laid low in the dust;
    preserve my life according to your word.
26 I gave an account of my ways and you answered me;
    teach me your decrees.
27 Cause me to understand the way of your precepts,
    that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.
28 My soul is weary with sorrow;
    strengthen me according to your word.
29 Keep me from deceitful ways;
    be gracious to me and teach me your law.
30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
    I have set my heart on your laws.
31 I hold fast to your statutes, Lord;
    do not let me be put to shame.
32 I run in the path of your commands,
    for you have broadened my understanding.

  1. Prayers please. I finally sent an email asking for permission to return to PNG. They asked me to fill out another risk assessment this morning which I just did. They are having a weekly meeting this afternoon at 3:30 eastern time and will consider my case. Please pray that I will receive permission to return, if God wills it.

  2. I had a late (11 p.m.) — and these days rare — call from Carol last night (I was about to fall asleep but could hear the phone vibrating on the table next to the bed).

    She’s still just not doing well, her hernia is causing her pain even as they medicate her for that (she said she wants to go to the hospital but I doubt much more could be done there and our hospitals are now slammed with an overflow of patients).

    I told her I’d try calling her doctor today — and I’m going to bug her brother in NJ again, too, she said she hasn’t talked to him in a while but she leaves her phone turned off most of the time now and her voicemail is full. So she’s hard for any of us to reach anymore; going through the main line typically takes a few tries and some waiting time before someone can help you.

    Meanwhile my friend Shirley sounds very depressed, which is understandable. I’m trying to connect with her brother, the retired Methodist minister, who is on FB but isn’t on my ‘friends’ list — I sent him a pm providing my email and cell phone # so we can keep in touch. He’s ‘local’ (Riverside County) and will be handling whatever needs to be handled for her. I remain concerned about her spiritual state. And I’m just so sorry she’s having to go through this.

  3. Thank you for praying, Mumsee, and all. I woke up around 5 with one side of my throat feeling a bit sore so I got up and drank water, took a rose hips capsule and a vitamin D. I felt better when I got up at 7:30. It’s still only a slight thing but I know it can be that way with Covid, a cold, or allergy. It does not seem to be turning into anything so far, but I am trying to rest a bit more to keep it at bay. I have had no fever. The weather is beautiful today so that should help.

    Prayers for you Jo to get the acceptance you desire and because it would benefit the children, parents, and staff.

    DJ, prayers for you and the situations with those you care about. I am sure you realize how much I can relate with what I go through with my friend.

  4. Had a call from the facility where Carol is and she passed away today, they were trying to find a contact for a family member so I gave them her brother Bill’s info in NJ.

    It wasn’t a surprise, she really was doing so poorly for a long time now. I’m glad we got a chance to talk last night, I hadn’t spoken with her in more than a week.

    Anyway, pray for her brother, she told me once the he was making advance arrangements for her in the event something might happen, that was a few years ago. I’ll miss her, but know where she is and am glad she’s not in pain anymore. She was a trooper, her health had been bad for a really long time. She was 69 but just had multiple problems with hernias and perforation issues for years, lots of surgeries.

    Her brother isn’t a believer, Carol tried to share the gospel with him but he’d have none of it.
