Prayer Requests 3-6-20

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 32

Of David.

Blessed is the one
    whose transgressions are forgiven,
    whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one
    whose sin the Lord does not count against them
    and in whose spirit is no deceit.

When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
    your hand was heavy on me;
   my strength was sapped
    as in the heat of summer.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you
    and did not cover up my iniquity.
   I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord.”
   And you forgave
    the guilt of my sin.

Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
    while you may be found;
   surely the rising of the mighty waters
    will not reach them.
You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
    which have no understanding
   but must be controlled by bit and bridle
    or they will not come to you.
10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
    but the Lord’s unfailing love
    surrounds the one who trusts in him.

11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
    sing, all you who are upright in heart!

  1. Hillary landed in Rome and we haven’t heard from her since. I assume this means she’s on her way to LAX.

    We could use some wisdom here. Normally, we would see her the first couple days back in Sonoma County, if she didn’t stay with us first. This time around, however, we’re not sure we’ll be able to do that.

    Since she’s coming from Sicily, where the virus doesn’t have a foothold yet, we might be okay–but she’s flying to the US on a plane full of people who have been all over the world and met in Rome. I’m thinking we won’t be seeing her for two weeks.

    My husband is part of a task force at his company at how to deal with the virus.

    Right now, they have US workers in home quarantine because they met two salesmen from Italy. Of course, at this point, the virus is centered in the Bay Area–30 medical people were sent home from the hospital yesterday in my town because of exposure.

    Hillary’s here seven weeks, we’ll get to see her, but this is what I warned her about. No one will want to get close for at least two weeks. Curious. But what would Jesus do?

    And how much of this is overblown worry for a healthy woman my age?

    OTOH, I lead a Bible study of women primarily in their 70’s and 80’s. What is my responsibility to them?

    So yes we could all use some wisdom out here.

    In other news, our friend Glenn appears to have come through brain surgery well. Thanks for prayers.

  2. Wisdom indeed.

    And that brings me to my unanswered question of yesterday: daughter’s facility where she works, the home to seventeen people, may go into lockdown in an attempt to protect the people Boss asked if she was willing to be there for the duration. Time and a half for everything over forty hours. That would be good for her finances and she would be a big help to them. But she said she would take the baby probably. Is that sensible? Would the three month old be better off there, where medical care is available and they are cleaning well and limiting access? Or better here with grandparents and children where exposure is limited but not totally? Wisdom.

    Clearly, with Michelle’s concern and ours, wisdom for all. What is the Christian to do? Obviously, we are not worried for selves as we have a destination, but for those we impact.

  3. Please pray for safe travels for Nightingale, Boy, and Virginia (Nightingale’s friend). In a little while, Virginia will be driving them all up to Maine, to spend the weekend at a friend’s place.

    (And please pray that I won’t get too annoyed at Janie, as I will be with her all weekend. 🙂 )

  4. Hillary is in California. They took her temperature in Rome but not when she landed in LA 13 hours later.

    My husband is now the coronavirus task force head for his company and has spent the entire day on the issue. He’s still praying about how we will greet Hillary. We can both work from home, so if we’re exposed, we’ll be fine. (We keep saying, it’s not like we won’t have power and water).

    He’s been talking a lot about perceived risk and actual risk–but at the moment, perceived risk is driving a lot of behavior in the media and around the world. It’s a conundrum. We’ll decide what to do when Jesus tells him!

    Which is always the best policy, anyway.
