Welcome to my day. Four days left of school. We made felt stars today and a clever red and green Christmas star for the wall. God gave me a new idea. We were going to read a simple decodable book. First I had them get white boards and write the words. So we wrote sad and then dot and the name of the story is Sad Dot. So they both wrote and decoded. I have never done it this way.
Nephew did. Great job decorating. He ran out of time to do the front door. His decorating skills are great. His clean up after himself not so great. I have put half the boxes back in the attic, left the other half in the garage and vacuumed up pine needles and glitter this morning.
Nana laughed she I told her. He usually decorates her house and leaves glitter everywhere. This year he said he wasn’t doing her house since all she did is gripe about it. 😂😂😂. Mr P didn’t micromanage Niece came over and helped. BG slept through her therapy appointment. Mr P still has a headache from his test yesterday. I am off to Pensacola and then do Auburn. I have been asked to teach agent financials to a market center there tomorrow.

Morning! It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
I read about that scene of lunacy Chas…may they all go down! These people are the most insane “humans” I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. Are they on drugs??!! 😳 (I suppose hatred is a powerful drug in itself…)
Two doors downs the street, a neighbor has a giant white menorah in the yard. It’s the first I have seen. Other neighbors have lights in their yard. I have my wreath. It is fun to see what others do. I am still thinking what else I might do. Art never has really helped decorate or appreciate my tree I put up in the past. He likes more formal trees. Mine is a hodge podge of sentimental ornaments made by Wesley, some given by friends, and some by my former preschool students. I love it, but have no energy to do it just for myself.
Last night at small group I sat on the floor next to the Christmas tree…the tree was so beautifully green and perfect I supposed it was fake…lo and behold it was real!! The pine scent was oh so lovely.
I believe this will be the last year for my fake tree…it is looking a bit haggard after 6 years. Some of the branches droop and twigs have fallen off….I just fill in those areas with extra ornaments! (Kind of like filling in a fallen cake with extra frosting!) 😉
Last year, for the first time, we got an artificial tree. I didn’t like it and we decided to go back to real this year. Hubby and the granddaughters went to a farm and cut one down on Saturday. Last night, son came down and said, “That’s really a nice tree; it almost looks artificial.”
We always have a natural tree. They can be quite quirky when not from a tree farm where they are groomed to thicken them up. There’s usually one ‘bad’ side, but you just put that one against the wall. I love me a quirky real tree.
The cat won’t leave me alone this morning — off to Knott’s Berry Farm’s Christmas Village in a couple hours, maybe I can find the last of the Christmas gifts I need to buy.
My tree is obviously artificial. It is narrow. We gave our last artificial one to youngest daughter and it still looks real and good for them. It was too large. I like real ones and had them for years, but my allergies finally made an artificial one a better choice.
I didn’t bother putting all the fragile ornaments on the top half, since my daughter thought she would not be here with the toddlers this year. That has changed, but I am not redoing the tree. Hopefully, the 2 and 3 yr. old will have enough other things and fun with cousins to keep the ornaments safe. I am too busy to change things. Husband’s group plays at two assisted living places this week and I always go with to help.
Artificial trees have gotten better looking through the years, but I’m with the natural tree crowd (though I do have some small, table-top artificial trees also, but they’re getting old).
I forgot, today is the day the impeachment charges were announced, right? Oy, the drama. Honestly, the whole thing is like a bad comedy.
I bought some apple cider vinegar with the mother in it. I hope drinking some in water may help my knee problem. For anyone who has used it, did you receive any benefit? The mother is like the starter for anyone who is unfamiliar with the terminology. I have had my first trial of it this a.m. My sinus area feels clearer for one thing.
Until I married my husband, I always had real trees (not every year) with a star on top. When I married him, it was a fake tree with an angel on top (fake too). I didn’t like either the fake tree or the angel (girl angels aren’t presented in Scripture, nor dainty angels, and I wouldn’t be excited about them even if they were presented differently). I said something about the angel early on, but not a “let’s get rid of it” just a hint that it wasn’t my favorite. One of those things to change gradually, not all at once, since it wasn’t only my home.
After several years, my husband decided it was time to get rid of the nativity sets (I was happy about that, had never liked them, and it turned out one of our two daughters didn’t like them either, so basically only one of us did!), and that year I mentioned the angel and it “went” too.
But we haven’t decorated at all the last three years–two years ago we were preparing to move and the girls were already out anyway, and the last two years we haven’t been fully moved in, haven’t had a good place for a tree, and frankly I don’t care that much–I don’t like fake trees and haven’t been interested enough in a real one to seek one out.
I did get a really pretty little potted plant yesterday, though, with leaves that are pretty much Christmas colors (greens and reds and yellows). I told my husband that’s my Christmas decorating. 🙂 It works. Plants don’t survive long in my care, but I figure if I think of it as like a bouquet of flowers, a temporary decoration, that works.
Rk, we do have Bob books but this was actually an older Open Court book. I found blackline masters on amazon. So we read several books a week and they each get their copy to take home. For national kids to have their own books is amazing.
Feels like I am in the grocery store about once a day lately. Today it was Sam’s and Publix. I am glad we were not doing vegan when I did not drive.
I really like to do a small tree with popcorn garland and those paper loop chains from petite loops. I guess I spent too much time doing Christmas trees with children in preschool and Sunday school to have anything but an elementary sense of decorating for Christmas. There is a tree up at the office that was put up by the newer employee who saw we had the tree and beautiful ornaments inherited from the former owner. I have put that tree up before myself, but it is not “my” tree. It is pretty and classy looking.
Cheryl- Did you watch the PBS Masterpiece version of Little Women last year? I enjoyed it, though I don’t remember enough of the book to know how accurate it was. However, I have notice masterpiece tends to be more accurate than most adaptations.
Peter, we don’t actually have access to television these days, believe it or not, except for what my husband can rig to go through an internet connection. (He has his laptop hooked up to a TV for such cases.) We don’t have cable and we can’t get standard channels. So no, I haven’t seen it, though I think I did hear it was good.
One of the stores we stopped in at Knott’s today was the Christmas “Emporium,” a virtual banquet of all things Christmas — trees, ornaments, lights, Charles Dickens’ villages, Charlie Brown Christmas, classic tree-friendly toy trains, Nativity sets, angels and Santas galore. Strings of lights featuring horses, old-style lanterns and other cowboy themes were seen in a couple of the other stores.
I am hoping to find hanging poinsettias at one of the big box stores, they looked so pretty on my front porch last year. And my spring potted hanging plants are entering their death throes, so the timing is urgent. But I’ll do that search tomorrow, today was a full day of shopping (but not buying much, I spent $9 on 2 ornaments, but $20 each on parking and lunch — friend drove so our tradition is whoever is the passenger pays the parking; it’s usually cheap or even free at Knott’s but not this year, those lots were full so we-I had to pay $20! Yikes … ).
My neighbors on the south have hung multicolored LED icicle lights from their roof, now I’m really behind in my decorating. I still have the pumpkins on the front porch.
Quick trip to Moscow today, to visit my folks and run granddaughter in for our half of the paternity test. Results in a week. Of the test, we had a fine visit.

Walked the dogs through the neighborhood and saw a few inflatable snowmen, along with a Rudolph with a nose that blinks on and off.
