  1. Wow, Chas, you already have two different looks for the day.
I went to a meeting tonight to learn more about what is going on here. The best part is that after informing us, they took a five minute break for everyone to prayl
We are in the midst of a battle.

  2. The different looks is because I was in a hurry. Why should I be in a hurry at 6:41??
I messed up on the entry that gave my name. As I was fixing it, I heard a noise in the bedroom. What cold cause a noise in the bedroom? I don’t know but I need to find out.
    Now.
Everything was OK. Not like it was supposed to be. She was supposed to be in bed.
    But it worked out OK.

  4. 6 Arrows – re: “Why is it so important to Nightingale that Boy not only be on the football team, but that he also get to play the positions he really wants to play?”

Of all the sports Boy plays, football is his favorite, and he throws himself into it. It is a great outlet for him, and gives him some great exercise. His coaches have been wonderful, and really seem to care about him. They, too, have been encouraging him to lose the weight so they can put him in positions they think he would be good in. One coach thinks he could possibly get a football scholarship someday (if he sticks with it, that is).

Part of the importance of Boy being on the team is for the relationship with those coaches, who encourage perseverance and discipline. He already went through one year of being over the weight limit, so they really want him to be under it this year. We are grateful for these caring coaches that are in Boy’s life.

  5. Also, Nightingale is using his desire to not be “halo” (the term for the kids who don’t make weight) as a goal for him to shoot for.

  6. Chas has changed clothes twice, he can’t decide what to wear.

Another day, another story. I need to be at the port for an 8:45 a.m. interview. It’s cool and we’re socked in with harbor fog this morning. Looking out the bedroom window the palm trees across the street were silhouetted against a gray shroud. I feel half asleep still.

LA schools all are returning to class this month.

  7. DJ – Do LA schools have air conditioning?

Our schools usually start the last week of August, but this year the first day of school is the day after Labor Day, like in the old days.

  8. Many do have A/C, especially in the hotter parts of the district north of us (in the San Fernando Valley).

Wide-ranging interview this morning, I’m trying to decide whether to write one overall big story, or just take the one piece out I was planning to write for tomorrow and do the rest either separately or …

  9. Thanks for answering above, Kizzie.

[Just erased a bunch more commentary again. Honestly, it must be the Holy Spirit telling me to shut up.]

He’ll help you see what is important, and guide you in truth. I have no such ability to determine the whats, whens, whys, etc. for you.

Back to the home routine for this day.

  10. I’m not coming to Indiana any time soon!

Just spoke with the new “archivist,” and there are no digitized archives. He was in a bit of despair, “I’m sitting here surrounded by at least 100 boxes that haven’t been touched.”

I’d already thought about what to do–I was prepared to fly to Indiana on Sunday for 10 days–but with my husband’s concurrence, instead volunteered to donate the money I would have spent to come to get them started on digitizing what I need.

He was surprised by the offer but will discuss it with his boss.

We see it as a financial, spiritual and time stewardship issue.

I’m a little relieved, but actually more excited at the opportunity to get them started!

You may remember this is the same group that, when I contacted them the first time two years ago, asked me if I wanted to come out and be their archivist and put everything into order.

I had to decline. My husband wouldn’t let me move to Greenwood, Indiana. 🙂

  11. Art lost his cane at this conference. I had to go on a hunt and eventually go to the car in the parking deck and retrieve the spare cane. Good thing he has a support system. He can’t understand how he lost his cane, and I can’t either. I gave the lost and found staff our number. I hope his cane shows up so we don’t have to buy another one.
An extra one is a necessity. Janice

  12. Well for better or worse something happened at the office today. I stayed home.
C- the former Broker who has stayed on as my consulting broker got upset yesterday about an email that I received and had forwarded to her. She told them that if they had any questions about the classes she was teaching to ask her. Today she went back to the office and spoke with the receptionist, the agent services kid, and the assistant to the market center admin. She told them everyone needed to work as a team. They told her there was one person who wasn’t (that would be me I suppose). She told them that they didn’t understand the difficulty of being the broker in charge and if they had an issue with me they should speak to me directly. Then she called me to tell me what she had done. Things will either get worse or get better. I am not going to the office this week if I can possibly avoid it.

  14. This being extra-strict about Boy’s diet is only until he weighs in. They have been working on it for the summer, and he has done really well, but now it is getting down to the wire and his weight, although now under the limit, is too close to that limit to let things slide now. Nightingale has been doing what she can to help him learn how to make better choices.

After the weigh-in, they can ease up on the strictness, while continuing to emphasize healthy habits.

But many of us know that overeating isn’t only about a lack of healthy habits, it’s also often about emotional issues. It was after Hubby’s death that Boy’s weight began to go up more. In my case, I had been slowly losing weight for a couple or so years (the best way to do it – tackling one bad habit at a time), but since Hubby’s death I have put on a few pounds, and struggle to cut back where I know I need to. And I am 58, not 8.

  15. The highlight of my day just happened. I got the call that Art’s cane was found in the men’s restroom, and I could retrieve it! It is the better of his two canes so we are happy.

  16. Fifty-two wants a rough collie (but not a puppy). Oh, and it’s not going to happen. The country was a good place for a dog, but a condo where she would have to be walked on leash is not. And when I do go out on walks, I go with a camera, and can’t realistically go with both.
