Prayer Requests 5-11-19

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 99

The Lord reigns,
    let the nations tremble;
   he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
    let the earth shake.
Great is the Lord in Zion;
    he is exalted over all the nations.
Let them praise your great and awesome name—
    he is holy.

The King is mighty, he loves justice—
    you have established equity;
   in Jacob you have done
    what is just and right.
Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his footstool;
    he is holy.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
    Samuel was among those who called on his name;
   they called on the Lord
    and he answered them.
He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
    they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.

Lord our God,
    you answered them;
   you were to Israel a forgiving God,
    though you punished their misdeeds.
Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his holy mountain,
    for the Lord our God is holy.

  1. The country to pray for today in the 30 days of prayer for Muslims is Kazakhstan, the largest of the -Stans and the ninth largest country by land mass in the world. The population is 70 percent Muslim, with ethnic Kazakhs making up the majority of that number, along with Uzbecks, Uighurs, Tatars, and Tajiks. The Kazakhs were traditionally nomads in the steppe land, but were gradually forced into settlement under Russian rule, which, ironically, brought them into contact with more formal instruction in Islam. Ethnic Slavs and the Orthodox Church have a significant presence in the country, with Orthodox Christians making up a quarter of the population, but the political association of the Orthodox with Russian colonization is a problem. There is, however, a quiet witness of evangelical Christians, often being made through hospitality. I know from those who have ministered in the country that there is active discipleship and training of pastors. Industrialization and nuclear testing beginning in the Soviet era has poisoned the land and water of Kazakhstan in many areas. Pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to bring spiritual healing to the people of this vast land.

  2. Prayer for wisdom for husband. He has not been able to sleep as his mind keeps working on trying to figure out home daughter’s stuff. Remember when she said she had cancer but didn’t several years ago? Apparently she went in for testing on concerns and has yet to pay the bill. My dad paid her well enough to pay all of the outstanding bills she has, but they are still outstanding. Sad. And because she has no paper trail, it is difficult. She paid everything she could in cash and no receipts. Mike told her all along she needed receipts and proof of payment. She told us she had paid the parking ticket she got in our truck but apparently, she gave the cash to her friend who did not pay it. Or so she says. So, mental health issue or serious drug issues or both? I am thinking both. Wisdom.

  3. Please pray for my Dear Friend who lives in Maine. (She and I used to live close to each other, and became best friends. Her first child, and my Chickadee, were born nine days apart.) She and her family are in a very precarious financial situation with their family business, and her husband is not in the best of health. Also, he is verbally abusive, which has driven a wedge between him and their two children (one out of the house, the other a senior in homeschool), and affects their marriage.

    After a somewhat emotionally abusive first marriage, Dear Friend has yearned for a good, close marriage in this second one. She and her husband have been married for about 20 years, and she is committed to the marriage, but it hurts her heart that they do not have that closeness that good marriages are supposed to have. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to work in, and transform, this marriage, and to help the husband to recognize and turn away from his hurtful words and attitudes. (They are both believers.) Thank you.

  4. Amen. It always surprises me to learn there are so many people in challenging marriages as I look at mine, my brother’s, my children’s, and my parent’s as the norm.

  5. Christ’s command, through Paul, to husbands to not only love their wives, but also to not be bitter against them (Colossians 3:19) is evidence that the naturally inclination of man after the fall, as described in Genesis 3:16, is to domineer with bitterness and harshness over their wives. This harshness may also extend to their children (Colossians 3:21). The solution to this is to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16). But Christians may choose not to walk in the Spirit and instead walk in the strength of their flesh (Galatians 3:3), and the end result will be division (Galatians 5:20-21). A man who claims Christianity but verbally abuses his wife and children is liable to God’s discipline (I Peter 3:7) if he does not repent or if the church does not discipline him (I Corinthians 5:11; 11:31-32).

  6. Thank you for the prayers for traveling mercies yesterday and today in the to and from with 6th Arrow’s piano competition. An uneventful trip, travel-wise, and a nice finish for daughter, who played beautifully and garnered an honorable mention. 🙂

    Nice to be home now and have a few hours before I head to quartet rehearsal tonight!

  7. Mumsee – I have heard too many stories of Christian women married to men who are controlling and/or “mean” (for lack of a better word) in one way or another, and Hubby tended to be verbally abusive at times for a number of years. (Although God did a great work in him in his last several years.)

  8. The place to pray for is the Maldives. This series of coral reef based atolls in the Indian Ocean are famed for its beach resorts that are the playground of wealthy tourists. The real inhabitants are impoverished and drug addiction is a prevalent issue. Islam is mandated by law. Pray that a translation of the Bible will be able to be completed, and that those who seek God will find Him in Jesus Christ.
