Prayer Requests 5-7-19

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 95

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
    let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
    and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God,
    the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

   Today, if only you would hear his voice,
“Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,[a]
    as you did that day at Massah[b] in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
    and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

  1. The second day of 30 days of prayer is for Egypt. Egypt has had a Christian presence since the beginning of the Church, and in the early church, the bishop of Alexandria held equal sway with the bishops of Antioch and Rome, in a fulfillment of Isaiah 19:23-25). But as the Roman Empire slowly collapsed, leaving a vacuum that the Islamic Abbasid Empire would eventually fill, bishops such as Cyril of Alexandria meddled in secular affairs (II Timothy 2:4), spiritually weakening the Egyptian church and leaving Egyptians vulnerable to the new religion of Islam. The Coptic church endured, however, preserving the ancient Egyptian language in their liturgy, and in the 1800s, during European colonization of the Middle East, Protestants also began influencing the Christian population. Today about 10 to 20 percent of Egypt is Christian, with about half being Protestant and half Coptic. While ostensibly protected under Egyptian secular law, Christians do experience persecution. But persecution is expected in the Christian life (John 16:1-4) and Coptics, especially, are long versed in dealing with it, having already experienced persecution at the hands of pagan Rome. What is more discouraging is how difficult it can be for Muslims to convert, as those interested in following Christ experience intense family and community pressure to remain in Islam, making intensely real the challenge of Christ in Luke 14:26. Pray that the Church of Egypt will burn brightly for the lost surrounding her.
    The clip is of an Egyptian worship service:

    Translation of words:
    I need the touch of Your Spirit to change me.
    And I need You’re blood, oh Jesus, to purify me.
    Every time I come and see You, and see my name inscribed on the palms of Your hand,
    You break the chains and Your truth sets me free.

    I come feeling weak, strengthen me!
    I come feeling sad, comfort me!
    I come to you as a sinner, heal me!
    Touch me with Your power!
    Show me the glory of Your splendor!
    Fill my heart with Your tenderness, and quench my thirst!

  2. Please keep me in prayer today as I take my final exams in Statistics and Anatomy and Phisiology. I feel unprepared as I have worked for the last 13 days straight, although 2 of those were EMS conference. Not much time to study.

  3. I did not do as well on the statistics as I would have liked but still came out of the class with a 94.1 final grade. I did ok on the multiple choice questions for A&P and I know i did well on the essay questions. What a relief to have that off my back. Now I wait to hear from the nursing program. I should know by June 1.

  4. My dear Jo has taken a turn for the worse and is not expected to live through the night. Family has asked me to sit with her until they can get there from Texas.

    I am in Charleston. I feel terrible to let them down again.

    She’s ready to go home. Her 101 first birthday is May 18.

  5. Oh Michelle, so sorry you cannot be there with her and for them. But you have loved her well, and she is finishing her race well. Just prayed for you and for them.
