Prayer Requests 4-19-19

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Luke 23:26-49

The Crucifixion of Jesus

26 As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 Then

“‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!”
and to the hills, “Cover us!”’

31 For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.

39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

The Death of Jesus

44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

  1. Twenty one year old and family continue to struggle. Wisdom. Husband may go over there. We may have baby here for a bit while they get their feet under them.

  2. I haven’t mentioned my friend Jenn for a while, but she is facing a major surgery soon, with three or four surgeons participating. Any surgery for her is dangerous, and this one seems especially so. She was happy to be able to put it off until her granddaughter was born. Now she would like to live to see her and the three grandsons grow up some more. Here is what she wrote on Facebook (lightly edited, but the ellipses are hers):

“I NEED SOME PRAYERS FOR TODAY … today is another doctors appointment. I just found out I needed my cardiologist to give me clearance for surgery because of all my heart conditions . . . I just want to hurry up and get better. Praying he says yes, or it’s all gonna be delayed or even canceled. . . then I have my last pre-op physical for other things on Monday . . . I can’t believe it’s 11 more sleeping nights away . . . and then 3-6 months of recovery.”

This surgery won’t “fix” her, but will take care of one major issue she has been having for a while.

  3. Prayer request from Joanne (aka AjiSuun):

“Pray for FF. She is a young woman who is heavily pregnant. (She’s TINY, but the baby is either huge or twins.) She was told today that she could have the baby at any time, but the baby is lying crosswise. Please pray that the baby turns spontaneously and for a safe delivery for her and her child.”

  4. When i was pregnant with my youngest daughter in 1987, she was not turned properly. My OB recommended crawling on my hands and knees for a bit each day to give her room to turn, and she did. It fits the baby off the spine and ribs and gives plenty of room for them to comfortably reposition. These days on the US the OB would advise a C-section.

  5. They used the maneuvers all the time in the hospital where I completed my placement, and even tried external cephalic versions, which is where they try to turn the baby around manually by manipulation around the mother’s abdomen. Not every baby turns, even with the hands and knees position and other maneuvers, and if it is twins (no ultrasound is available in the clinic there, so it is not always possible to tell), the child may not be able to turn. Sometimes a C section was necessary, even for babies who were head down but had their face turned the wrong way in relation to the pelvic bones. Women can push for hours without moving the baby down any further just because the head is slightly tilted to one side or because the forehead, instead of the back of the head, is the presenting part (first part to enter the birth canal), or because the baby has one hand over his/her face. With twins, the first baby must be head down in the proper position in order for them to be safely delivered, as once the first twin is out, it is possible to reach in and turn the other one around if necessary. I have seen that done. But if the first baby to enter the birth canal is transverse, delivery is impossible, as the baby cannot come out sideways (the shoulder is usually the presenting part for transverse). I have seen a breach birth (feet or buttocks presenting first) end up fatal for the baby where Aji Suun is, and a tranverse birth is dangerous to both mother and child.
