Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2018 Week 13
It’s RIVALRY WEEK folks! Many of the Big boys play against their main rivals for boasting rights. Some are even making a last ditch effort to make it to the so-called “playoff”. So while enjoying that left-over turkey, enjoy some of these on TV. Just make sure to get in your guesses before 7:30 EST Thursday, when the first game happens.
1. Thursday 7:30pm EST: #22 Mississippi St @ Ole Miss
2. Nebraska @ Iowa
3. #8 Central Florida @ South Florida
4. #16 Washington @ #7 Washington State
5. Arkansas @ Mizzou
6. #13 Florida @ Florida State
7. Auburn @ #1 Alabama
8. Arizona State @ Arizona
9. Wake Forest @ Duke
10. Tie Breaker: Pick winner and final score: #4 Michigan @ #10 Ohio State
BONUS: Guess who will win the Illinois small school (1A) championship to be played Friday @ 10AM in Champaign. I’ll be there cheering on the boys from my school. The teams are: Camp Point Central Panthers (12-1) vs Forreston Cardinals (11-2)
(I won’t say which is my school so as not to influence your selection.)
Mississippi St
Iowa
Central Florida (I don’t care that they play easier teams than Alabama, CFU deserves a chance at the National Championship.)
Washington State
Mizzou
Florida
Alabama
Arizona
Duke
Michigan 24-21
(I’m delaying my bonus pick until tomorrow evening.)
Chas’ wild guesses:
1. Mississippi St
2. Nebraska
3. South Florida
4. Washington State
5. Arkansas
6. Florida
7. Alabama
8. Arizona
9. Wake Forest
10. Michigan 21 Ohio State 14
Cardinals
And the Gamecocks upset the Tigers
Kevin- All the high school state playoffs are at the University of Illinois stadium, so all 8 levels will be on a neutral field. Four games Friday, four Saturday.
When I was In high school, 1945-49 (We started in 8th grade as “sub-freshman), North Charleston Hi (My school) and Chicora merged schools for football. We were rivals in BB, but football players were from both schools.
Unfair, I know. But Charleston had segregated schools in those days, so Charleston High had players from all over the city. (Except Bishop England HS, a Catholic school, had large attendance and fielded a good team.
I tell you that to say this.
The Cooper River Blue Devils played Camden for the state championship and won.
They then played the Georgia champions and won.
I learned at the 50th HS reunion that two of those players played in college.
One for Clemson, one for The Citadel.
1. Ole Miss
2. Iowa
3. Central Florida
4. Washington State
5. Mizzou
6. Florida
7. Alabama
8. Arizona
9. Wake Forest
10. Michigan. 30-21
Bonus: Camp Point Central Panthers (Love of cats was the influencing factor)
Re: my 8:00 I forgot to mention that in those days a football player was expected to play 60 minutes. Can you imagine a quarterback playing linebacker?
I suspect Sonny Jorgensen played linebacker for Duke. I don’t remember when that changed.
Well, Chas, at my small school, some of the players play both ways. The games are only 40 minutes though, as each quarter is 10 minutes long.
And I see it’s late enough not to influence anyone, though it seems moot, since most of you picked the correct high school. I teach at Camp Point Central, so I predict they are going to win tomorrow.
What a weekend! Ohio State trounces the Wolverines in an upset none of us predicted. So much for the tie breaker. Michigan got a respectable 39 points on the road, but Ohio State walloped them with 62 points. My high school got first time jitters and lost the state championship 44-7 to a team that has been there 2 times before. And my Wildcats lost in the last few minutes by one point. They missed a last second field goal that would have won the Territorial Cup. Oh well. the difference maker was the other big upset of the weekend, when Washing defeated Washington State in the snow on Friday, at Washington State’s field, to win the Apple Cup. Because AJ was the only one to predict that outcome, he wins Week 13.
Congrats, AJ. Do we go another week with eh conference championships? Or is this it. You decide, and pick a tie breaker if you want another round.
Results:
AJ – 7
Janice, Kevin and I – 6
Chas and Mumsee – 5 (Chas would have 4, but he picked the other high school team).
Miss State
Iowa

Does the bonus affect who wins the picks?

Also, is there a home team advantage, or are they playing on neutral ground?

It might if they get one more than another person. Possibility of 11 this week.

Janice- I should be warm. It’s supposed to be partly cloudy and in the low 50s with a chance of rain later on.
