Prayer Requests 11-20-18

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 104:1-24

Praise the Lord, my soul.

   Lord my God, you are very great;
    you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
    he stretches out the heavens like a tent
 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.
   He makes the clouds his chariot
    and rides on the wings of the wind.
He makes winds his messengers,
    flames of fire his servants.

He set the earth on its foundations;
    it can never be moved.
You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment;
    the waters stood above the mountains.
But at your rebuke the waters fled,
    at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;
they flowed over the mountains,
    they went down into the valleys,
    to the place you assigned for them.
You set a boundary they cannot cross;
    never again will they cover the earth.

10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines;
    it flows between the mountains.
11 They give water to all the beasts of the field;
    the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky nest by the waters;
    they sing among the branches.
13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;
    the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
14 He makes grass grow for the cattle,
    and plants for people to cultivate—
    bringing forth food from the earth:
15 wine that gladdens human hearts,
    oil to make their faces shine,
    and bread that sustains their hearts.
16 The trees of the Lord are well watered,
    the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 There the birds make their nests;
    the stork has its home in the junipers.
18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats;
    the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.

19 He made the moon to mark the seasons,
    and the sun knows when to go down.
20 You bring darkness, it becomes night,
    and all the beasts of the forest prowl.
21 The lions roar for their prey
    and seek their food from God.
22 The sun rises, and they steal away;
    they return and lie down in their dens.
23 Then people go out to their work,
    to their labor until evening.

24 How many are your works, Lord!

  1. Please pray for peace in PNG, especially in the capital of Port Moresby. With world leaders having just left, there is rioting as police protest not receiving their bonuses. I found an article on BBC news. We are asked not to comment. Simply pray for peace.

  2. Heavenly Father,

    I lift up the nation of PNG to You this day. You are aware and already involved there because many are praying and calling out to You to restore peace or to bring a new unknown sense of peace through Your supernatural ways. Please infuse hearts with love to push out hatred. Please let love overwhelm fears and anxieties of those living there. I pray against forces of evil that create chaos and unrest. I pray that the police may be given realization of fringe benefits that outweigh a larger paycheck. Please let things settle down and for all to get a sense of being made in the image of You, God, so that everyone recognizes their own value alongside the value of others. Thank You, Lord, for caring and listening to all who are intercessing for PNG. Please, especially I ask that You keep Jo and all on her compound safe in ways that demonstrate your favor and what their God, You, can do. All glory to You, God, for the great things You have done, are doing, and will do. In Jesus’ name, Amen

  3. Mumsee – There are some good men and coaches in his life through Cub Scouts and sports, and I am grateful for them, but I mean the kind of man who is involved more intimately in his daily life.

  4. Kizzie, God isn’t limited by how involved any certain strong father-figure is in The Boy’s life — whether it’s a daily presence or not with those He brings into his life.

    I don’t want to toot my own horn with this next anecdote, but it’s illustrative of how God can work.

    As a piano teacher, I’ve been told by parents and former students how I’ve impacted the lives of those particular students. My former students only saw me for 30 minutes a week over the course of a number of years. Those small snippets of time, repeated for how ever long, can make a difference, far beyond any musical outcome, according to God’s will.

    One former student was named Student of the Month at her middle school once, and when she was asked at that time to name her most significant role model, she named me. I’d been her piano teacher since second grade and her parents had divorced when she was about sixth grade.

    Sometimes I wonder if God doesn’t use adults with whom a child has more limited contact (weekly, say, rather than daily; or seasonally, rather than year round) in a more powerful way in the lives of children who are more vulnerable. Your grandson, and my student referred to above, were/are in hard circumstances. Living in a single-parent home is a challenge. Those types of people Mumsee mentioned may very well be strongly affecting The Boy’s life in the same way God was using me to reach this student of mine in a way I had no idea of for many years.

    Let me gentle encourage you to take the “but” out of your sentence at 3:33, and everything that follows it, and trust in God (and I know you try really hard to do that, Kizzie) that He is providing for The Boy everything he needs at this time.

    Prayers for you and him.

  5. Kizzie, our seventeen year old has declined the impact of husband on his life but there are several good men in the community he sees throughout the week. No set time, but as he feels like it. They go out of their way to try to help steer him in the right direction. If we were hands on with him, he would be in a panic and our lives would be chaotic with disrespect and disobedience. As it is, he pretty much sticks to his self appointed curfew of eight thirty rather than staying out all night or coming home at three or midnight or whatever as he has in the past. We would like to be involved but he is not emotionally strong enough to handle family. So husband talks with the men, keeps them apprised of any concerns and they keep him apprised of their concerns. It works for him. We, of course, won’t know the outcome until he is thirty five but we can wait.
