Prayer Requests 9-20-18

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 42

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”
These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One
with shouts of joy and praise
    among the festive throng.

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
   Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

My soul is downcast within me;
    therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
    in the roar of your waterfalls;
   all your waves and breakers
    have swept over me.

By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

I say to God my Rock,
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
    oppressed by the enemy?”
10 My bones suffer mortal agony
    as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”

11 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
   Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

  1. I saw my dear 100-year-old Jo yesterday. She looked good, though was still not dressed at 12:15. I arrived at lunch time and provided entertainment.

The gout in her hand is improved and her feet look better, but she’s still not ready, physically, to go home.

Her niece comes next week with the impossible task of finding a safer spot for her to live on the ground floor. Jo does not want to leave her second story apartment of 35 years.

No one blames her, but it’s not safe and she remains, in her own admission, stubborn.

Pray for wisdom on this one and spiritual discernment for Jo.

We had a robust discussion of the Supreme Court situation, sexual harassment during WWII and college life in the 1950s.

I stayed too long as always, because the conversation was so interesting.

I was the third visitor from church that morning.

  2. One of the young women at our church had a classmate/friend try to commit suicide yesterday. She is okay, but has damaged her liver and kidney. I have no name to give, but the Lord knows.

  3. Please pray for favor (or whatever word or phrase you prefer to use) for Nightingale at work. When it comes time to schedule for the month ahead, Nightingale wastes no time letting the scheduler know that she is open for all the 7 – 3 shifts. But then she ends up getting mostly 3 – 11 shifts. (The only 7 – 3s she has in October are for when she is covering for another nurse.)

Also, please pray that she will begin her search for a new job soon (or at least when God wants her to), and that she will get a good job within a 15 – 20 minute drive from home, making a little more and getting more and better hours. (But above all else, that she will get the job that is God’s will for her.)

And of course, while I’m at it. . .please pray for her salvation, and also salvation for Chickadee and The Boy. Thank you.
