Psalm 99

1 The Lord reigns,
    let the nations tremble;
   he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
    let the earth shake.
2 Great is the Lord in Zion;
    he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—
    he is holy.

4 The King is mighty, he loves justice—
    you have established equity;
   in Jacob you have done
    what is just and right.
5 Exalt the Lord our God
    and worship at his footstool;
    he is holy.

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
    Samuel was among those who called on his name;
   they called on the Lord

  1. For those who didn’t see it yesterday:

    We are preparing to do the actual physical move in the next 48 hours [now 32 or so]. Tomorrow night we have a few men coming by from church, to pick up the truck and get a few things on it to take some of the work off Saturday. Saturday morning people from church are coming by–but it’s a small church and many are not able to help (old, pregnant), and several more have other commitments (at least one graduation, presbytery business), so we aren’t sure how much help we will get. Then a four-hour drive and unloading at the other end, and we do have commitments to help unload at the other end (and some of our people are going down with us). We are already weary.

    Everyone on here who has ever moved has repeated the same refrain: Get rid of stuff now! One blessing of this move is that the tightly crammed kitchen cabinets have been unpacked, and I know that we own some lovely crystal dishes, which can be used now that we will finally have a dining room rather than a small eat-in kitchen. The kitchen is also larger with more cabinets, so I should be able to have cabinets packed in a way that I can see what we own. And I’ll have a toaster oven again! (One is already sitting on the counter waiting for me. Counter space has been at too much a premium here.)

    This week the flooring company has been in our condo, and we have also had a plumber and some volunteer help in the bathrooms. (We did what we could before leaving to come back and finish packing, but “what we could” was enough to leave us both sick this past week.) We will need to continue to work on things after we move in (stripping wallpaper, more painting, and getting the windows replaced), but the vast majority of it should be done when we get there sometime Saturday afternoon. Then comes the hard, but encouraging work of unpacking (and setting aside stuff that we actually don’t need for another yard sale this fall–we have already taken several carloads for one here, and sold stuff, and thrown stuff out, and given stuff away . . . but yes, we still have “too much stuff”).

    Prayers appreciated over the next two days as you think of us. I will probably not have internet access until some time Monday (at the earliest–we do have a provider coming by Monday, but whether my computer itself will be connected then, I do not know). My husband is driving our car, our son-in-law the rental truck (a big one, so I hope he’s careful!), our other daughter her car . . . so traveling mercies would definitely be appreciated, and ideally that the possible rain won’t come through at either end.

  5. Oh, you’re welcome, cheryl. 🙂 Gotta laugh or you’ll cry. Funny, but with all my moving horror tales, it was, looking back, always an exciting time of new beginnings. I just always managed to trip and fall headlong, battered & bruised, into it all.

    It’s a gift.

  6. Kim, this morning husband meets with her counselor. This afternoon we will all visit her psychiatrist. We are quite willing to allow her to remain here, if she will allow others the time to do their school work and stop throwing things at people. She says she can control it. That tells me she is doing it all deliberately. We hope to get insights from the forementioned to determine if sending her off is really her best hope and if so, to get documentation towards that. Prayers for wisdom. If we are no longer helping her, but hurting her, she needs to move on. If we can still help her, she needs to stay.
    She has been quite subdued since we arrived at this conclusion, saying she wants to stay and she wants to go. Understandable.

  7. Prayers for my cousin Charles (see daily thread) and for neighbor’s son who goes in today for surgery for a small, I think, melanoma bump on his forehead. He and his wife have several young children.

    Continued prayer for my friend E down the street, I believe she’s still waiting for more test results to determine a course of treatment for what is a stage 4 cancer.

    Pray also for Carol who has congestive heart failure (which had been in her charts for some time, but somehow she never knew she’d been actually diagnosed with it). She also has a new boyfriend at the facility, which is sweet, but … I’m afraid she’s moving him into her room, the same thing she did with her prior boyfriend. She told me the other day she was “getting a new roommate” and when I called her last night at around 9:30 p.m. she was whispering, said she was with him and he was asleep.

  8. We could use some prayer now and next week if ya’ll don’t mind.

    I have my bi-annual doctor visit on Monday AM. Then Cheryl has to see the cardiologist in the afternoon to get clearance for her Tuesday surgery to remove the plate and screws from her leg. So far it’s been very stressful for her. The surgeon sent her to her primary care doc for clearance to have the surgery. That doc who she never saw before because she’s new, and Cheryl doesn’t do docs unless she needs to, saw something about an abnormal heartbeat when Cheryl was pregnant 16 years ago, so she insists Cheryl see a cardiologist before she’ll give clearance. And she was a bit of a jerk about the whole thing.

    The surgery was already scheduled and this left like a week to see the cardio doc. They can’t see her until Monday, then have to send the report to primary, who then has to fax it and her approval to the surgery center, all before the end of the day Monday. Or it could cause the surgery to be canceled and throw all the arrangements made for her at work and what not out the window. So, yeah, stressful.

    And on top of it, she has a wicked case of sciatica the last two days. Poor thing. 😦
