  1. I wonder when they’ll get around to charging Comey for his criminal leaking?

“Terry James Albury was charged by the Department of Justice under the Espionage Act this week.

Albury, who worked as a counterterrorism liaison for the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport was, “charged this week by the Justice Department’s National Security Division with one count of “knowingly and willfully” transmitting documents and information relating to national defense to a reporter for a national news organization. Albury was also charged with a second count of refusing to hand over documents to the government,” according to MPR.

    From MPR:

The Justice Department has vowed to crack down on leaks that it contends undermine national security.

Albury’s attorneys, JaneAnne Murray and Joshua Dratel, said in a statement that their client, the only African-American FBI field agent in Minnesota, was “driven by a conscientious commitment to long-term national security and addressing the well-documented systemic biases within the FBI.”

“Terry Albury served the U.S. with distinction both here at home and abroad in Iraq,” the statement read. “He accepts full responsibility for the conduct set forth in the Information.”

The Intercept may have inadvertently outed their source (and themselves) by filing a FOIA request for information that was not yet known to the public. “

  2. While this sounds good, it’s useless, has no teeth. The IG can’t imprison anyone.

“The surveillance of Carter Page, based in part on the Steele Memo, has been the subject of a House Intelligence Committee memo authored by the Republican majority, and a Democrat counter-memo.

The heart of the dispute is the failure to inform the FISA court that the Steele memo, which is almost entirely unverified, was paid for by the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee, and that Steele was hostile to Trump. Carter Page, however, clearly was not the target, he was the excuse, as I wrote last month:

That a FISA warrant was issued as to Carter Page was reported last spring. So that wasn’t a surprise, but the surprise is that anyone actually cared about Carter Page. Have you seen the guy on TV? He’s on TV almost as much as Adam Schiff, and they both come across as doofuses. Carter Page was so important the FBI went out on a limb to use a questionable document in court to convince a judge to surveil him? I’m not buying it.

That Carter Page was not the real subject of the surveillance was revealed by the hyperventilated attempts to keep the memo from being released based on claims it would reveal critical sources and methods and damage national security. Now that we’ve seen the memo, we know that those protestations were false.

The surveillance of Carter Page was not about Carter Page. He’s a bit player in a larger drama, and that larger drama is what we need to understand.

The DOJ Office of Inspector General issued the following announcement today, DOJ OIG Announces Initiation of Review

Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today that, in response to requests from the Attorney General and Members of Congress, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) will initiate a review that will examine the Justice Department’s and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) compliance with legal requirements, and with applicable DOJ and FBI policies and procedures, in applications filed with the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) relating to a certain U.S. person. As part of this examination, the OIG also will review information that was known to the DOJ and the FBI at the time the applications were filed from or about an alleged FBI confidential source. Additionally, the OIG will review the DOJ’s and FBI’s relationship and communications with the alleged source as they relate to the FISC applications.

If circumstances warrant, the OIG will consider including other issues that may arise during the course of the review.

Everyone presumes that the “certain U.S. person” referenced in the announcement is Carter Page. CBS News reports:”

And Trump is not happy about it.

  3. Oh my….

Exactly what many have been alleging. And of course the criminal Brennan is involved.

“GOP congressional investigators are examining newly-released texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page that may indicate there was coordination between high-ranking officials at the Obama White House, CIA, FBI, Justice Department and former Senate Democratic leadership near the beginning of the Trump/Russia investigation.

The investigators gleaned their information from Fox News and assert that it “strongly” suggests coordination between former President Barack Obama’s Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, then-Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, and CIA Director John Brennan.”

“Aug. 30, 2016, Strzok texted Page: “Here we go,” and included a link to a New York Times report titled, “Harry Reid Cites Evidence of Russian Tampering in U.S. Vote and seeks FBI inquiry.” Strzok answered, “D [Comey] said at am brief that Reid called him and told him he would be sending a letter.”

Fox News writes, “Congressional investigators suggested that the Reid letter possibly provided ‘cover’ for the fact that the FBI and Justice Department had already begun investigating the Trump campaign in mid-July on what they called “questionable ethical and legal grounds.”

One congressional source told Fox News, “The ‘here we go’ text between Strzok and Page indicates the FBI/ DOJ knew the letter from Reid was coming. This created the inference they knew it would create public calls for an investigation into Russian interference — covering them.””

More details and the entire timeline at the link.

  4. Here’s the link to the Fox story.

“The investigators say the information provided to Fox News “strongly” suggests coordination between former President Barack Obama’s Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, then-Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, and CIA Director John Brennan — which they say would “contradict” the Obama administration’s public stance about its hand in the process.”

“The congressional investigators pointed out to Fox News that the CIA and FBI are supposed to be “independent agencies,” and noted that “coordination between political actors at the White House and investigators would be inappropriate,” raising questions about the level of involvement of Obama White House officials.

But weeks later, on August 25, 2016, Brennan went to Capitol Hill to brief Harry Reid — and it was unclear whether FBI officials attended the briefing, a congressional source told Fox News.

Two days after the briefing, Reid penned a letter to Comey requesting an investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.”

  5. My son met Rex Tillerson at our favorite Italian food restaurant today. He is now one of our neighbors. Here is Travis’ report of the conversation:

“I told him you worked during the Reagan admin and he said those were the good days. He lives next to Marty Bs.”
