Prayer Requests 2-21-18

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget Ajisuun and The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 14

The fool says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”
   They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven
    on all mankind
   to see if there are any who understand,
    any who seek God.
All have turned away, all have become corrupt;
    there is no one who does good,
    not even one.

Do all these evildoers know nothing?

   They devour my people as though eating bread;
    they never call on the Lord.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is their refuge.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When the Lord restores his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

  1. Oh no, I hadn’t seen any news yet this morning. Sorry to hear that but thank God for his many years of faithfulness and ministry. He produced much fruit.

  2. John 1125 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

  3. My introduction to Billy Graham was seeing him on my next-door grandparents’ television set when I went down to their house to practice piano as a child.

    Ninety-nine years old. Wow.

    Thank you for your thoughts/prayers expressed on my behalf on yesterday’s prayer thread and other times, Mumsee, RK, and any others. I am sorry to have been MIA this last while. Some hard things happening for a while, but there has been sweet resolution with some of it this week. I am grateful to God for His blessings.

    No piano lesson tonight, so I took the time to get caught up on the prayer thread. Perhaps there will be other opportunities to catch up with you all on other threads. In the meanwhile, apologies to have not been a very faithful friend of late.

    I will stop rambling and put a much-needed prayer request in my next comment…

  4. My mom needs prayers. (And my dad could always use them, too.)

    Yesterday morning, as she stood at the stove making preserves, Mom passed out. Thankfully she didn’t burn herself or anything, but she fell hard and broke her right collarbone into five pieces.

    I thought she would be hospitalized but, no, treated and released a few hours after her ambulance ride to the hospital.

    Mom has never been able to tolerate pain meds well. Last night, my sister-in-law stayed over at their house, and Mom had to be helped to the bathroom every 60-90 minutes. Mom was sick feeling, had dry heaves, shaky, weak, dizzy, you name it. She hardly ate or drank anything because of the meds making her feel sick.

    She is in less pain today, but the sling she wore yesterday has been replaced with a brace that has to be on very tightly to keep her right arm/shoulder immobilized, and the tightness of the brace itself could cause additional pain.

    Please pray for her pain relief and healing. At her age (77), they don’t want to do surgery, but may have to if the collarbone doesn’t heal properly.

    All of this happened a few hours after what could have been another serious event didn’t happen.

    My dad got confused about 5:00 a.m. and thought he had to go up to the barn to help my brother milk the cows. (Dad’s been retired for many years now, and even when he was semi-retired, it was the morning milking routine that he stopped doing first.)

    The problem with Dad going to the barn yesterday, if he had gotten out of the house, is that their yard was glare ice. He almost surely would have fallen, and if my mom hadn’t woke up and discovered what he was about to do — leave the house and go outside when the temperatures were right around freezing — he could have fallen and been lying on the icy yard who knows how long.

    Fortunately, Mom was indeed awake and had the presence of mind to call my brother (there is a phone in the barn), and brother immediately left the barn and got to their house before Dad had gotten outside.

    My brother thinks my dad got disoriented by the flashing lights of tow trucks in the area. Nine people were in area ditches by 5:00 a.m., following what had been a nasty overnight ice storm. Dad in his confusion maybe thought there was trouble at the farm, and that he had to get to the barn to help my brother or something?

    Praising God that, as bad as things were for Mom later that morning, when she collapsed, that the day wasn’t worse.

    Thank you for your prayers.

  5. It sure does, Cheryl. Thanks a lot for your prayers.

    Kizzie, 10:26, thank you.. Two of the biggest ones of those hard things, though, were the ones in which I experienced lovely resolutions this week — one on Sunday, and one on Monday. A nice way to start the week. 🙂

    I also want to add, Kizzie, in reading recent prayer threads now, that your mention of your thoughts on “what if I took a bunch of those pills that are around…” or however you said it — I, too, like others said, believe those kinds of fleeting thoughts aren’t out of the ordinary.

    Those thoughts come in this fallen, broken world, but taking our thoughts captive… remembering we have a Savior Who loves us, and people God has placed in our lives who also love us… all of that is such a blessing. Having His Word and promises are treasure beyond compare.

  6. As long as I’m here, may I request prayer for one more thing?

    For productivity tomorrow at home, as I’m going to travel to my Mom & Dad’s Friday, spend the night to relieve my sister-in-law of nighttime duty with Mom, and then return Saturday. So Friday will be a day off of school for the kids, and I’d like to make the most of my time with them tomorrow. I’ve got a morning practice at my duet partner’s house tomorrow (was supposed to be Tuesday, but bad weather caused that to get postponed), but the rest of the day I’ll be home. Would appreciate prayers that it goes well here tomorrow, and that driving conditions are good for the journey Friday and Saturday. (Snow is predicted for late morning Saturday. I’m hoping to get home before it starts.)

    Thanks, all.

    Love and blessings,
    Six
