  2. I agree with Phos about the difference between teasing and making fun of.
    It’s “making fun of” that hurts. Proper teasing is actually helpful at times.
    I’m trying to think of an example, but it’s too early.

  5. Donna. How far are you from the ocean?
    I don’t know if it makes a difference. My parents lived 12 miles from Charleston, but there was a tidal creek a couple of hundred feet from their house.
    But a wave has to run out at some time.

  8. The “advantages” of home ownership- It rained really hard the other night, with strong winds. Somewhere we have a leaky wall underground, as the carpet in our bedroom was soaked. I spent last evening vacuuming water. Ugh!

  9. About 1 mile (east from the harbor, south from the ocean) but we’re on a hill so it would get to us. The dog park, however, lies within our local “Tsunami Zone” and there’s a sign to that effect near the entrance. They put the signs up several years ago, ringing the harbor where it is flat. But all’s well — haven’t heard how Alaska fared, I have a friend who lives in Homer and it sounded like they were being evacuated. That was a big quake, thankfully it was in the ocean and not on land.

    At any rate, I finally fell back asleep and never heard a siren. Cowboy stopped woofing. Now I’m dragging, trying to wake myself up.

  11. I also interviewed a geologist once who explained that the underwater ‘plates’ in our area are simply not the kind that are conducive to tsunamis. Oregon & Washington are another story, he said. But the underwater structure off of California will keep us pretty safe from tsunamis, anyway

  12. Yes, leaks like that are hard to find. The house is bermed into a hill, so the bedroom is in a partial basement. We’ll have to dig down six feet or so.

  14. Thanks to the need to have a cable technician come today, Nightingale finally cleaned up the toys and boxes and stuff that had been left in my living room since Christmas. Although I had been wanting that done, I had delayed asking her to get to it, as she is usually quite busy. So I am glad that that is taken care of, and my living room looks much nicer. 🙂

    No tsunamis here, but it is raining like crazy out there.

  17. Good news about my dad. Apparently the memory loss and inability to do ‘normal’ things was stress related. He was taking stepmom for a minor surgery on her eye, but it seemed to have stressed him to the point he couldn’t think. Now that the surgery is done and she is fine, dad has settled back to his normal (forgetting occasional things, but functioning fully). So thankful. Sister and I decided we need to be very aware of what is going on in their lives that might cause stress and make sure she is there to do the driving or the extra work that would fall onto stepmom. Sister and stepmom had a good long talk yesterday – we are all relieved.

    But it was a good wake up call to be ready for ‘that time’.

  20. Snow is starting to melt, the plows are on our roads clearing the depth so we can have quicker melting….sun is shining and it is cold! We just had coffee with 2nd daughter before she headed to work…she is a delight…we are oh so blessed ❤️

    Wreck found by reporter may be last American slave ship, archaeologists say

    Relying on historical records and accounts from old timers, AL.com may have located the long-lost wreck of the Clotilda, the last slave ship to bring human cargo to the United States.

    What’s left of the ship lies partially buried in mud alongside an island in the lower Mobile-Tensaw Delta, a few miles north of the city of Mobile. The hull is tipped to the port side, which appears almost completely buried in mud. The entire length of the starboard side, however, is almost fully exposed. The wreck, which is normally underwater, was exposed during extreme low tides brought on by the same weather system that brought the “Bomb Cyclone” to the Eastern Seaboard. Low tide around Mobile was about two and a half feet below normal thanks to north winds that blew for days.

    “I’m quaking with excitement. This would be a story of world historical significance, if this is the Clotilda,” said John Sledge, a senior historian with Mobile Historical Commission, and author of The Mobile River, an exhaustive history of the river. “It’s certainly in the right vicinity… We always knew it should be right around there.” …

  24. So the forlorn hope of sending an email request received a definite negative. No readjustments can be made for any students. Now I have to recalibrate. It isn’t just the fact that I won’t be able to accelerate, that I won’t be able to do the remote placement, that I have to find the finances for the summer. There is also the question of renewing my nursing registration. If one does not practice nursing in the province for three years, one must enter the non-practicing class. You may recall that I got back my active registration because I had proof that I had practiced as a nurse in West Africa. I got that active registration back in 2015, it is now 2018. I was able to renew for 2018 (we renew every December) but 2019 will present difficulties. With the renewal, they ask you if you have completed a nursing education program – that’s right, completed. There is no place to put if you are currently taking an education program. If I had been able to accelerate, I would have completed the education program by next December, and been able to put it on my renewal form. As it is, I will have to find some kind of nursing position, so I can keep my registration active, and that will not be easy.

  33. Roscuro, there are many tribal communities that have been considered under serviced in the States. Perhaps one of those? Or a rural area? I don’t know what is considered underserviced but those come to mind as getting special attention as they do not have the medical help cities have.

  35. The first photo needed no explanation, a male and female cardinal still more or less together in winter, ready to start a new breeding season in the next month or two.

    This one is a dark-eyed junco, aka slate-colored junco, aka snowbird. It was on our snowy deck, with snow in the yard, and even some ice crystals on its tail. I liked the “nothing at all but snow and bird” effect.

    Roscuro would it be possible to do prn work in home health? I would think you could keep up your nursing certs that way…I am so sorry you have been caught in the middle of the mess created by others…continued prayers for you…..
    Dj it is sad to hear what is happening in your career field….I know when the layoffs would come and go in my husband’s industry (engineering) he would come home so sad to have seen some very good men and women layed off from their jobs…it was very depressing for them all….in His Hands…trusting Him through it all….
