Prayer Requests 1-20-18

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 135:1-7

Praise the Lord.

  Praise the name of the Lord;
    praise him, you servants of the Lord,
you who minister in the house of the Lord,
    in the courts of the house of our God.

Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
    sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant.
For the Lord has chosen Jacob to be his own,
    Israel to be his treasured possession.

I know that the Lord is great,
    that our Lord is greater than all gods.
The Lord does whatever pleases him,
    in the heavens and on the earth,
    in the seas and all their depths.
He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
    he sends lightning with the rain
    and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

  1. Prayers for a neighbor, L, who lost her husband unexpectedly a few years ago. She’s in her 50s, a hairstylist, and has their two 20-something sons living with her. One has had serious drug and alcohol problems and wound up spending 13 days in the hospital over the holidays. When I was awake & reading sometime around 2:30 a.m. last night I could hear them arguing (lots of loud arguments over there though the years, most in Spanish) and some pounding noises outside (like someone pounding on a car?) but then it was quiet, so I guess things were at least temporarily resolved and he must have left.

    On the advice of counselors and most everyone else, she’s booted him out since the last hospital crisis and I believe he may be staying now in a rehab house nearby, but he comes back not infrequently. It’s all been a major strain on her, of course, she’s so worried about him, but also worn out from dealing with it all; I was talking with her about it a few weeks ago and she’s really stressed, naturally. I told her I’d be praying for her & her family, they’re Latino & Catholic, not sure of the status of saving faith though she seems to have active connections to one of the local Catholic churches.

  2. I contacted Ann through the Facebook messenger. She asks for prayer for her mom, who is dying from severe vascular disease. (The doctor thinks she has six months to a year.) Please pray that she will not be in too much pain, and that Ann’s dad will be tender with her. Thanks.

    Pray for Ann, too. She is in a very busy season of life right now, and has her own personal concerns.

  3. slightly better this evening. I can stand and sit, but it is the getting up that is so painful. I actually just stood from the table pretty much pain free. I plan on teaching tomorrow, but my car is so low that I may have to walk.

  4. Nightingale has a date this afternoon with the new man she is interested in. Please pray for her safety, physically and emotionally.

    The Boy will be spending the afternoon with a family whom they are close friends with. The mom, Stacey, is a close friend of Nightingale’s, and one of the boys is The Boy’s best friend. (They are also a devout Christian family. 🙂 )

    That means I will have a quiet, relaxing afternoon to myself after church. I am looking forward to that.

  5. Sixteen year old daughter appears to have run away again. She has a warm coat but is wearing some flimsy little slip ons. She told me the past several days that she was leaving today. I assume to go to the Catholic Church. Wisdom.

  6. We hiked around town for two hours looking for her. Somebody had picked her up about halfway to town, at least that is where her footprints stopped. They took her to Kamiah, twenty miles the other direction. She wanted to go to church with her sister, that will set her off for the next weeks to months.

  7. Okay, we went and got her. She says her plan was to go to the Catholic church but when the guy picked her up, she decided to go to the Kamiah Bible Church. Glad we have good neighbors, watching out for each other, but I wish they understood a little better what they are dealing with.
