    17 degrees here. Burrito sales are brisk. Moon and stars are beautiful.

    We have 6 cats, but they are not a problem with the tree. Mainly, because they live outside, and I don’t put up a Christmas tree.

  4. We don’t have a problem with the cats and the tree. Our problem is that Bruce eats the ribbon on packages (and then pukes it up). Right now, there is one present under the tree and it’s wrapped in a plastic bag so he doesn’t chew on it.

  5. Good morning! Glad to be back home. Out roof is covered with yet to be melted snow. The yard is about half covered. Everything is okay for the moment. I am super tired after such a quick trip to TX and back. I did all the driving by choice. My new glasses help a lot for night driving.

    We saw more trees down along I-20 on the snow covered banks than we have ever seen. That was from Birmingham to Atlanta. Taladaga National Forest was pretty bad.

    Funny to have had a snow that reached from TX to the east coast, yet we were at first in Dallas where it did not snow, and by the time we got to Waco where it did snow, it was gone when we got there.

    Miss Bosley seemed fine with a shorter boarding stay. She has been rambunctious since getting home. She has been jumping up on things to explore that she usually leaves alone. Also she went out in the carport this a.m. I thought the crisp air and cold concrete would discourage her, but no. I resorted to what always works. I crank a car and she runs back inside. When I saw those vacuum cleaners with the Christmas tree, I totally understood how that works.

  6. Well, I am still working on getting health insurance. Looks like that will be my big birthday present!

    My friend, Karen, just got out of the hospital. She was in the whole time I was away. Nobody stayed with her. I am sad I could not be there for her.

  9. Cute header photo, A J.. You got that squirrel at a great angle. We did not have much time for me to take photos on our trip. I did post a neat video to Instagram and Facebook of about fifty turkey vultures swirling and soaring at a local park at Waco. It was amazing to see that many obviously having a convention.

  13. Morning! It is 37 degrees here with a promised high of 57. The deer show up every morning waiting for their fresh water…what a delight to watch Paul fill the pan, walk it out to the back of the property all the while a herd of deer watching him intently. As soon as he sets it down, they rush towards the water. Some of the little ones were being quite ornery, kicking others out of the way… 🦌

  15. Happy Birthday and welcome home Janice. I’m sure Miss Bosley is happy you’re back.

    Ah, cats and Christmas trees, made for disaster. How’s Michelle’s giant blue kitten enjoying the holidays?

    It’s still overly warm (80) during the day and cold (50s) during the nights here — and so dry. I think our humidity yesterday was 9%. We’re all dealing with dry itchy skin, messed up sinuses and sneezes.

    Today I finally meet with the medicare insurance broker to see what plans might fit what I’m looking for. I’m hoping to save some money, especially on my eye drop prescription.

    I talked briefly with Carol last night who (again) is convinced she’s being watched & hacked on her phone so she wants to (here we go again) get a new phone. She also said she wants to quit FB and Twitter and become more anonymous, her fears and paranoia are really running rampant. I suggested maybe she just get a low-tech phone and forget about being online at all as it seems to cause her such anxiety. I also said I’d buy her sunglasses and a hat to wear when we go out the next time, which made her laugh, at least.

    (This all started because she went to sign up with SS online — she wanted to see what that 2% increase would mean for her check next year. I told her it was pretty easy to figure out and, besides, something else will surely cost more next year so it’ll all be for naught anyway.)

    Oy.

    I’ve washed up all my sheer curtains that had to come down last year when the house reno’s started, and am planning to just get rid of the old, cheap blinds and put the curtains back up alone. I’ll figure out more permanent window coverings later; for now I’m just trying to get by with hanging something on whatever old existing hardware is up there from prior years to keep things simple and cheap.

  18. Have a blessed day, Janice. I don’t think that medicare is a good way to celebrate! Give yourself a day away from all that.
    I am planning a trip to Portland to see family. Hey, one hotel that I looked at is near one of those shoe stores you all like. hmmm….. now what will fit in my luggage???

  20. Yet another one who helped develop facebook, expressing remorse at the social manipulation they did and the “unintended consequences.” He also would not let his children use social media. But then, I have always believed that and have no control over whether or not my children use it as it is so everywhere.

So over the past year and a half, I’ve been so busy and distracted with the house & changing routines that I have only worn pierced earrings off and on (off for a long period of time from maybe a year ago into late summer of this year — so almost a full year with little or no earring wearing). Now I’m wearing them again but noticed I have had had repeated problems getting earrings through the right ear which feels almost (but not quite) closed up. Today I actually punched through a really thin skin covering to put on my plain silver studs which i think I’ll now have to wear 24/7 for a while to make sure that hole reopens well enough.

    I’ve gone without earrings for long periods before and never had problems, but maybe this was longer than normal for me. Last thing I want to hassle with is getting an ear re-pierced professionally.

  27. I updated my phone and now can’t comment again. I’m home, briefly, on computer.

    DJ–next time you see Carol, tell her if she updates to IOS 11.2, there’s a function in the settings that allows you to shield your calls and not get eavesdropped. (I can’t remember the term). It may or may not work, but you can check for it on the phone and give her some reassurance.

    The six month old, 8 pound kitten had one ornament placed low on the tree she could play with (a small wrapped box with a long ribbon). It’s been turning up all over the house and there’s no sign she’s interested in climbing, yet. OTOH, she’s now gotten her shots and can go outside–so there’s lots of whining at the door, now.

    Coyote sighted in a yard five miles from here; just thought I’d toss that out.

  28. Here’s a warning to you all. The front page of the paper this morning announced 97% of the people burned out were under insured and may not be able to rebuild. (They’re guessing, “tens of thousands into the millions,” of out of pocket expenses.)

    Check with your insurance policies while you can. 😦

    We were pretty glum praying in Bible study this morning.

    Thanks for the cell advice, I never know if that will only make her even more paranoid. The latest issue with Carol is all the water she drinks at the facility has been salted — but it only is affecting her, only she can taste it, no one else.

    OK, signed up (almost) for medicare now, all the ‘parts’ and everything. I’m officially old.

  53. I had my ears properly pierced at the rather tender, late age of 21 at the local Boston Store (a department store back in the day, much loved by my mom, I’m not sure if they even exist anymore).

    While I was horrified by my fiend’s fainting experience a few years earlier when we were still in high school (her mom offered to do my ears, too, but no way), I really loved all the cute earrings she got to wear after that.

    Another friend was supposed to meet me at the department store to get her ears pierced, too, but she never showed — and she never has gotten her ears pierced, to this day. 🙂
