A chronicle of my life for the past few days:
😦 The term paper took a long time to finish. Suffered a severe case of writer’s block, despite having been researching my topic for the last three weeks.
🙂 Returned to my second elective on Thursday, and everything is on track to be finished it before Christmas.
😦 Plans have been finalized for making up clinicals, but we won’t know the details until Monday. Rumours abound.
🙂 Had spirometry test and saw a respirologist Thursday afternoon. Spirometry was normal.
🙂 / 😦 Was given allergy skin testing. Had a very strong reaction to house dust mites (it still hasn’t subsided completely), and also to ragweed, other weeds, cockroaches, and dog dander. The respirologist pointed to the large swollen and red areas on my arm, that had developed after just a few minutes of exposure, and said, “That’s what your lungs look like.” Gave me new prescriptions. Very glad to know just what has been causing the severity of my symptoms. If my lungs swell up as much as my arm did, no wonder I have trouble breathing.
😦 Dust is everywhere.
😦 Up until 2:30 AM on Friday finishing term paper. What took me so long? About five to six hours putting all the footnote citations in the right places.
😦 Realized Friday morning that I had forgotten about the extra class I had in the morning (it only occurs every couple of weeks and not in a regular pattern).
🙂 Despite having missed the bus I would usually take, I reached the class on time.
😦 The next class of the day had an in-class test.
🙂 Got through the test and the rest of the day, including yet another class, and handed in my term paper on time. Had the feeling at times that the Lord was the one making everything work and I was just along for the ride.
😊 Sister in law and her husband came for Thanksgiving….we had the most wonderful visit with them…and their dog Chief!
😊 Youngest daughter will be graduating in three short weeks…she is excited and so are we…no more tuition payments for us!
😞 I miss working especially this time of year…feeling very torn.
🙂 Fun week with our daughter home. She’s counting the days until she’s done with school: 20 and then she’s got a Master’s.
🙂 She’s also now talking about getting a far better paying job (at like 3xs current wage per hour). I’m encouraging her . . . LOL
🙂 Oldest son got a job. Much rejoicing for him; wife is worried about how to figure out complicated child care with a kindergartener.
:-I It looks like I may take three morning shifts a week to get the girls to school. Not clear on the afternoon pickups, there’s a Great-aunt who has volunteered for some of it. I’m steering wide at the moment.
🙂 Daughter-in-law wants to teach part time next fall which is a great idea in the opinion of every member of the family.
🙂 Scorched earth once black, is now fuzzy green with new grass.
🙂 My family has much to be thankful for this year. Even if we miss Stargazer . . .
🙂 Making progress in the living room but not as much or as fast as I’d hoped — but maybe because I was sidetracked and spent a good hour working on the kitchen. 🙂
😞 I stripped the sheets from the bed in the guest room yesterday…I had shoes on. Today I was barefoot and took the clean sheets in to make up the bed….there was two damp spots on the carpet where Chief had relieved himself! Sprayed resolved on the carpet, soaked it up and vacuumed…it is now drying and I am hoping it did the trick…if anyone has any other ideas feel free to tell me…I am thinking of just ripping out the carpet at this point! Grrrrr
I haven’t checked the others, so I don’t know what’s going on.
Just wanted to say we had a nice reunion in Greenwood.
Elvera talked with her sister a lot.
She had a great time.
Nancy Jill, there are enzyme cleaners specifically made for pet accidents, and I always kept a bottle on hand when I had Misten. As good as she was, there are times when a dog is sick (bladder infection, diarrhea, or vomit), and the enzyme cleaner is supposed to get in there and “break it down,” and that also keeps the carpet from keeping the urine smell in it. (Dogs will “go” where they smell that, because their brain tells them that’s the right place to go.)
😦 I had been home less than an hour when a class member called and said the wife of our teacher fell and broke her hip, and would I teach tomorrow.
How can I not take the lesson.
I promised to show up.
It’s a sad thing when an 85 year old breaks a hip.
Such a sad ending to a nice Thanksgiving week.
And I will be attending a funeral of a fellow Lion tomorrow.
He was in ill health it was no surprise in this case.
I’m so sorry Chas. I’m a couple decades behind you, but as I get older, I realize how life begins to take on such a different feel. I’m struck by how many obituaries I’ve written for sources, former colleagues and other people I’ve known through the years I’ve spent covering this area for the newspaper.
The church will be blessed with your lesson tomorrow, I’m sure 🙂
nancyjill, Nature’s Miracle is one of of the pet enzyme formulas sold at pet stores — there are others also now. I keep them around, too, though I have no carpet so it’s not as much of a worry for me. When my dogs have accidents — now that everyone’s locked in for the long nights due to the coyote issue here — they use the linoleum near the back door, which are the easiest cleanups and the flooring can’t be ruined; but accidents are rare, I make sure they get out right before we go to bed and first thing in the morning — still, they’re getting older … .
Well, mumsee’s chosen my next house project — building an outdoor kennel. It would have to be cute and would have to match the rest of the house. A Spanish mission style kennel. With a little bell tower on top.
I do have the pads for older dogs — the accidents occur very seldom and, thankfully, Cowboy’s incontinence has been arrested by the high dose of the one medication he’s now on.
Don’t forget to put chain link across the top as well. And a game camera so you can watch the coyotes taunting the dogs. Who won’t be able to bark due to the bark collars. Teach them to ring a bell when the coyotes come into the yard so you can throw your pennies at them. My plans are nearly as good as Kim’s, right?? Right????
I am checked in for Saturday night’s flight, now I can get some sleep.

DJ – Have you considered putting down puppy pads each night where they tend to go?

Or keeping them outside, maybe in a kennel.
