  2. I was reading John 15 this morning. I don’t know what made me think of this song, but I did.
    I thought of Gene Autry singing it. So I looked it up. Lots by Gene, but it had lots of other things, lyrics, selling something, etc. with it. This, and Kate Smith were the only straight ahead renditions of this I could find.

  3. Good morning. Still battling whatever it is that ails me. I sound like a 4 pack a day smoker. I have a very deep, scratchy voice. Last night I was trying to call out names for door prizes and trying to get the room quiet. Another agent had to stand up and tell everyone to be quiet for me.
    Today is a Leadership retreat.
    I am off to BE the wizard.

    Actually, here is the section on regret spelled out for my FB folks and therefore easier to read:

    I love his observation about regret:

    GOD USES EVERYTHING.

    He is an economist. He doesn’t throw out our failures–He uses them. In His creative genius, everything counts.

    So there is no room for regret.

    We repent–and move on, knowing that “where sin abounds, grace does much more abound.” What a way to live.

    Regret is a useless emotion. Worse yet, it puts our engine in reverse and keeps us from walking into our God-appointed destiny. It doesn’t get us anywhere except on the road to discouragement.

    By contrast, we can know assuredly that God uses our bad decisions as well as our good.
    When Jesus showed up on Resurrection evening, He came to commission, not to complain.

    The greatest failure in the lives of the disciples was answered with the words, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” I want to follow a King like that!

  6. Good morning. Art has an appointment with a Spine Clinic today. He has an appointment Monday with the Knee Clinic. Hopefully he can get some relief. He has been pretty grumpy lately. His grumpiness makes me grumpy and worst of all it makes Miss Bosley grumpy. We are the Grumpies lately rather than the Gareys. Does not bode well for happy holidays.

  9. Kim is well respected in her new job. That is appreciated whether or not one receives a pay check. When I was a homeschool mom I was respected by the homeschool population, but not by the general population. I did not receive a paycheck so the small amount of respect received was worth a lot.

  14. Cheryl, I missed most of last night’s Jeopardy, all but Final, because our local station moved it up half an hour. How did Austin do? If I remember right he was in a solid second place going into Final. Are you more optimistic for him than you were yesterday?

    It airs on our NBC station at 7:30, and NBC had football starting then. Usually the local station pre-empts Jeopardy when NBC has 7:30 programming, but I guess because it was Jeopardy’s big tournament they instead moved it up to 7:00 pm, pre-empting Wheel of Fortune.

    I’m gloating a little bit because I got Final Jeopardy right while all three contestants missed it. I was pretty sure the iPad hadn’t been around as long as 10 years, 2007 sounded about right for iPhone.

    Looking forward to tonight’s exciting conclusion.

OK, I’m off for what is guaranteed to be a fun morning — waiting around at SS to see someone so I can get signed up for medicare part B and get my SS checks coming in now that I’m passed the birthday where I’m 100% vested in it. I’d like to wait another 1-4 years to get more, but getting it now (while I’m still working full time and can use it for extra cash) makes the most sense in my circumstances. It’s what my CPA recommended when we’ve talked about it in the recent past (he said it typically doesn’t pay off for folks to wait for those marginally higher checks, but the government definitely would like you to do that, they wind up paying out much less in the long run that way).

    Most people I know wound up taking their SS payments *early* (retiring at 62 or whatever) so at least I’ve avoided doing that.

    But it could be (probably will be) a whole lot of waiting around today, a long day in the heart of government bureaucracy, so I’m taking a book bag to keep myself occupied. Then I’ll need to swing by work (it’s only a few blocks from there) to sign the latest goodbye card for the reporter who’s leaving today. Not sure if they’re replacing her yet or not. But probably not, knowing the way things are going.

    Just five of us left now. We’ve become a little “bureau” among the chain of newspapers we’re in.

    And as usual, my week off flew by. But I’m glad I didn’t spend another week working in the house. I did a few little things, but mostly I was able to ignore it. It’ll all wait.

  16. Kevin, my husband got it right, too, and he assumed all three contestants would. Austin actually did very well. But he missed a daily double with a big bet, and then they took away a right response on a nitpicky technicality (they wanted a “triple rhyme,” and he had come up with “nun’s fun run,” and they decided that the possessive wasn’t good enough since it wasn’t a true rhyme, or something like that–they didn’t say which one they were disallowing, just that a different contestant made one word plural and they disallowed it, and then said that in retrospect Austin had done so too). But he came out competitive and ready. And for the introduction, all three men participated. I’m not sure what exactly they were doing, but it was some sort of wave action, with each man taking it up for his own intro (including Alex), so obviously they’re getting along.

    But I’m encouraged that Austin is really into it, and tonight’s game is really and truly anyone’s to win, so it should be a good game. Buzzy has some catching up to do, so he is less likely to win, but they’re all in contention.

  17. I saw most of Jeopardy! last night, except for a minute or two when my DTV box stopped receiving a signal. It does that every now and then. But whenever the program is preempted (usually by a presidential news conference, which tend to be at 1:00 Eastern, and our station has the show at noon Central), I go here: . All the past programs are archived. Well, not the actual broadcast, but all the questions and who answered them. It has all 33 seasons!

  22. It has been a busy morning here. I got up before the sun to burn some weeds while it was still and cool. I was standing there, when a friend came walking up, asking if I was OK. I assured him , yes, that I was wanting to get the weeds burned while it was still. He had seen the flames, when he went to the dump, tried to call me, but didn’t get me. In a few minutes after he left, his wife showed up. She had seen him go by with the fire truck (which I did not see) and was worried he might need help to get Miguel out of the house…How sweet of them, but totally unnecessary. Miguel says I have to call W any time I plan to burn, so we don’t repeat. Anyhow, area cleaned, fire remained under control, and was out before the winds picked up. Never a dull minute at my house.

  25. Meanwhile, doing battle with a new mortgage company (mine transferred me to this new provider last month and I noticed today that 2 mortgage payments were taken out of my account this month). I think it’s straightened out after some time on the phone with a very giggly representative who kept calling me creative variations of my real name. Interesting.

  27. Interesting post by a relative to another close relative about how evangelicals would vote for Satan, if he were pro-life. Trouble is that the article was from the Babylon Bee. If I were commenting at all, I would point out that the Bee is satire. However, I have learned never to comment to these people. I doubt they will ever find out, since I seldom see anyone who wants to comment anymore on their posts. 😦

  28. Kevin – You don’t have Jeopardy in the evening?

    We used to have it at 5PM, but the station decided to “keep up with the Jones’s”, which in this case is the other local station. So they moved a newscast to 5PM and put Jeopardy! where the news used to be. Now I have to record it to watch it. And that works most of the time, except for days like today when the new antenna fell down and the DTV box couldn’t get a signal. So I guess I’ll have to wait and see who won it all.

  29. Don’t worry, Peter, I learned my lesson when I commented prematurely on the outcome of a College Tournament game and a west coast friend took me to task for spoiling it.
