I was living in Fort Worth in 1961. There was a book out called Texas Brags. They said everything in it was true. One thing it said was that Texas was permitted by some arrangement when it joined the union, to create five states. But they also said that it couldn’t happen because they could never settle on which state got the Alamo.
We lost Chuck in the Alamo during a visit. He was two. We finally found him under a table.
Texas joined the US by treaty and the treaty allowed us to split into 5 states. After the unpleasantness of 1861-1865, I am not sure the treaty is still in force. The seal put the flags of the countries that attacked us to keep us in their unions on the bottom.
Not entirely Southern. My buddy, Tex .S. in the AF said that everyone from north of Dallas is a Yankee. He’s the guy I told you about, from Brownsville.
“Hillary Clinton, under questioning by federal investigators over whether she had been briefed on how to preserve government records as she was about to leave the State Department, said she had suffered a concussion, was working part-time and could not recall every briefing she received.
Clinton, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, raised the health scare during her 3-1/2-hour interview with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department prosecutors on July 2, according to an FBI summary released on Friday.
Besides the 11-page interview summary, the FBI also released other details of its investigation into her use of an unauthorized private email system while running the State Department in which it concluded she mishandled classified information but not in a way that warranted a criminal prosecution.
Clinton told investigators she could not recall getting any briefings on how to handle classified information or comply with laws governing the preservation of federal records, the summary of her interview shows.
“However, in December of 2012, Clinton suffered a concussion and then around the New Year had a blood clot,” the FBI’s summary said. “Based on her doctor’s advice, she could only work at State for a few hours a day and could not recall every briefing she received.””

“Either Hillary Clinton lied to the FBI or she lied on a State Department form as she began her tenure as Secretary of State. This conclusion appears inescapable after Friday’s FBI document release related to the Clinton email investigation.
As revealed by those FBI documents, Clinton told agents that she could not recall “any briefing or training by State related to the retention of federal records of handling of classified information”.
But the second paragraph of the Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement—which she signed on January 22, 2009—states that “I hereby acknowledge that I have received a security indoctrination concerning the nature and protection of classified information.” A composite of the FBI documents and the nondisclosure agreement is shown below:”
Here is some good news for you, AJ. From a low of 11% right after the conventions, Trump has climbed steadily and 538 now gives him a 30% chance of winning and there are two months left. Regardless of what I think, he has had a good week dealing with immigration from a political standpoint. K. Conway seems to be the Trump-whisperer and is keeping him from gaffes. My son thinks Trump will win. You don’t want to know the reason.
Its been a tough week for the Clinton camp….RCP now has them at 242 votes (definite and leaning) down from 272. However, all the toss-up states are still theirs by a few percents, And thus without tossup states, they have 340 votes. Its still hers to lose but it looks like Trump is sticking to his core message of xenophobia and not being lead off the path.
Depends on which leftist you ask. Left of centre adults of course would be annoyed. Social liberals definitely. As an adult with a house and pension funds, my interest is not necessarily left wing politics but stability. With Clinton I know the economy will continue roughly the same as under Obama which in the second term has been consistent and stable. Given my situation i have a stake in the system, and Clinton is a competent person with a competent team.
However, younger or more radical leftists and my daughter’s generation have no stake in the system. They view Clinton as corrupt and almost as bad as Trump. They know Trump will be incompetent and on some level think Trump as president would be a good idea as he will wreck the present economic system on purpose, by neglect or incompetence it doesn’t matter. Once the system is broken, perhaps, they think, the next generation will create something better out of the wreckage.
Chas — you’re right. People have to be careful what they wish for.
Lessons from history. The Communists didn’t help the Social Democrats and Hitler attained power. Their hope was by allowing Hitler to power, the old order would fall apart. They were right but most of them died in concentration camps and didn’t see it. Better to hope for slow gradual change.
The reverse side of the Texas State Seal. Our ancestors were clever in their continued rebellion.

Speaking of which: As Jesus is completely divine and was completely human, Texas is fully Southern, yet also fully Texan.

So why was she allowed to continue in her official capacity if she was, by her own admission, unfit for the position?
