  1. Some of my friends thought Bill Clinton was the antichrist. Others thought it was Obama. But God has a sense of humor. This is America, a democracy. Hillary and Trump have to win an election to see who is the Antichrist.

  2. A couple of thoughts:
    1. There is much hand-wringing over whomever is going to be our next president. However, if you read much history, you will see that there have been many in the past with bizarre traits, personalities, and behaviors. We survived.
    2. I just recently read a book about the Kennedy brothers. LBJ despised JFK, but was quoted as saying that he did some research and found that 1 in 4 presidents died in office and becoming JFK’s VP was the closest he’d ever get to the oval office. Perhaps that is Pence’s thinking.
    3. I was never a Trump supporter, however, if he wins, I think it will be interesting to watch. He will either perform as he suggests or he will get sucked into the vertex that is politics. Either way, it will be interesting.

  3. It’s hard to know how Trump would govern. He could be a lot more staid & boring than Trump as candidate. Or not.

But I still believe that “4 more years” of what we’ve had in the past 8 years — and with someone who has honesty issues to boot — fill me with dread.

Doesn’t mean I’m voting for him. I’m still leaning toward abstaining and leaving that line blank in November.

But it will, as Linda says, be at least interesting to watch if Trump is elected. And thankfully our form of government has many checks and balances that one would hope would come into play if necessary.

  4. I firmly believe that Hillary will win. Pence took some people off the fence that may have voted for Trump. Since I think she will win I think she ought to go all out and pick a woman as her VP. It doesn’t matter who. If we are “going to make history” then LET’S MAKE HISTORY!!!!!

  5. I confess I have no understanding of current American voters.

Kim, Please help me. Pence is a conservative Republican. He opposed Little Bush’s wild spending programs. He is solidly pro-life. He supported the Religious Freedom bill in Indiana and was raked over the coals for his effort. Pence is scandal free. Why would his selection make someone less likely to vote for the liberal, amoral, megalomaniac Trump?

“For college students at Case Western Reserve University, a dislike of cops takes precedence over education.

Case Western Reserve University will be closed for business next week. That’s because students can’t handle the presence of cops. Controversy started when the private university agreed to house police officers for the RNC convention.

The convention has nothing to do with the students and the officers won’t be doing police work on campus, but the students claim “safety” is an issue. Students and their compatriots complained about the police presence through a Change.org petition.

In the petition, students decided that police are racist, homophobic and dangerous:

“I am scared and concerned for students of color, queer* and trans* students, and all university community members,” wrote one supporter, who also urged the university to protect it “as a safe space for all bodies.”

Another said that the police presence “reinforces the reality that our lives and mental health does not matter”

One supporter said it’s “a slap in the face to both community members and minority/marginalized students. Having them on campus period is unacceptable.”

“The institutionally-sanctioned presence of militarized police forces in an educational environment is unacceptable and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a gendered and racialized space, physically, socially and psychologically unsafe for persons belonging to marginalized groups,”

Heat Street reports that “some students even asked to be moved to alternative housing for the week, saying the increased police presence caused them to “fear for their safety” following the shooting deaths of two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.”

  7. Mosby is now 0-4.

“A Baltimore judge acquitted Lieutenant Brian Rice of all charges today for his involvement in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray in April 2015.

Rice was the highest ranking of the six police officers charged in the high-profile case by Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. Prosecutors have yet to secure a conviction.

Rice, 42, was cleared of charges including involuntary manslaughter, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment. He elected a bench trial, and Circuit Judge Barry Williams decided his fate instead of a jury.

Two other officers were previously acquitted in relation to Gray’s death — Edward Nero and Caesar Goodson Jr. Another officer, William Porter, had a mistrial last year after a jury could not reach a consensus on the charges brought against him.

Prosecutors charged that Rice showed reckless disregard for Gray when he failed to secure him with a seat belt after he helped load Gray into the police van. Gray died of injuries that he sustained while in police custody seven days after he was apprehended.”

  8. I knew a lot of “yeller dawg” Democrats who were planning to vote for Trump. Personally I don’t see much difference between Trump and Clinton. She is just plain evil with an ego to match and he is a misogynistic egomaniac. I don’t know that I will vote for him but I know I won’t vote for her.

Sure Ricky. Let’s have Bruce Jenner as the other woman on the ticket. We’ve stooped this low what will it matter.

I can’t believe of all the people who are natural born citizens of the United States these two are the best we have to offer. For the first time in my life I am completely uninterested in the process. If one of them starts speaking on TV I walk out of the room. They both grate my nerves. I have watched every convention since I was able to vote. I don’t know that I can bring myself to watch this one or the next.

When we stop the police from effectively policing, we will have anarchy. It isn’t in man’s nature to do good instead of evil if there are no guidelines. Even I, if I knew a policeman(woman) couldn’t pull me over would do 40mph in that stupid 25mph zone. If you are honest you know you would too.

  9. Mosby will be heralded by the fine citizens of Baltimore as a hero who tried her best to bring justice in the face of corruption.

  10. The anti-Trump forces aren’t happy. 🙂

” Over angry objections from anti-Donald Trump forces, Republican Party leaders approved rules for the convention and rejected a demand for a state-by-state roll call vote.

Hundreds of socially conservative delegates opposed to nominating Trump protested noisily after the convention’s presiding officer, Arkansas GOP Rep. Steve Womack, abruptly put the rules to a vote and declared them approved by voice.

“Call the roll, call the roll,” opponents shouted. Practically drowning them out were chants of “USA, USA” by Trump supporters and party loyalists.”

Now that this has failed, let’s get on to the main attraction….

The riots. The professional protesters and paid agitators should be out bed and ready to start their workday by now. I figure by 9, 10 at the latest, the party should be in full swing.

Let’s just make some popcorn and enjoy the show. 🙂

Direct TV is offering a channel for the R and D conventions. That’s where I’m planning to watch it. All day coverage, no narrators or talking heads. No spin, no comments, no experts, just watch for yourself. I’m liking the idea.

  11. I have liked the first part of the Trumpkin convention. It featured a Duck Dynasty guy, Marcus Luttrell, Rick Perry, some wimpy looking actor and the mother of a Benghazi victim. The speeches were short and effective. I think Trump’s third wife is coming up a little later.

  12. Everyone at work seems amused by the GOP convention so far. I’ve been able to not comment and stay out of it — I honestly just don’t feel that caught up in it.
