Prayer Requests 7-16-16

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 85

¹Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.

Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.

Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.

Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.

I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

  1. We have a tracker app on Lindsey’s phone….She spent the night at a friends last night….She’s been told she must be home by midnight–supposedly all her friends curfew–and yet did not get to her friends house until 1:45 …. I am not a happy momma….Please pray for wisdom in dealing with this.

  2. Give her the chance to tell you first. We have trackers on our phones and sometimes it will drop out then pick back up.
What I am really saying is don’t tip your hand. See what she has to say first before you go on the offense. Ask how her night was, what did you do, what time did you get to friend’s house? THEN let her know. It is giving them enough rope to hang themselves. Believe me. I have been there with BG.

  3. Carol’s church in Hollywood has brought a new friend into her life who has been very helpful to her, off and on, over the past year (her work takes her out of town for several weeks at a time) — and quite generous. Most recently the friend, J, provided a new iPhone for Carol, signed her up in her own “family” plan to get a break in Carol’s monthly cost and now will help Carol set up a bank account at J’s same bank (presumably so the phone bill $ can be more easily transferred into the friend’s, account each month, which makes sense — Carol now will have to pay her each month for her phone ‘bill”).

Now Carol has zero money to her name for the most part, as you all know, so I can’t imagine there’s a concern J is somehow after her “money” (which doesn’t exist beyond monthly government checks and a new — but very small — pension check that’s going to come Carol’s way — none of it amounts to much altogether after the facility’s rent is automatically taken out). But something about this latest news caused me some concern for some reason. Either J is very trusting that Carol will pay her every month, or ?

I’ve never met J, but Carol has spoken frequently about her, she works in the film industry (behind the scenes) and they both come from the same conservative Lutheran background and found themselves sojourning, for now, at the Hollywood Pres church due its proximity to where they are currently living. I’ve actually been glad she’s made this friend, it’s taken a little of the pressure off of me. She’s treated her to lunch and even passed on to her another friend’s (no longer needed) older iPad.

This woman and another church friend (who lives in Laurel Canyon, a very exclusive area of Hollywood) recently showed up with several pairs of new shoes they bought for Carol a few weeks ago. As I said, this all seems very generous and Carol was thrilled (people have always liked and wanted to help Carol who clearly is not well off, either physically or financially; she seems to attract — or God seems to put into her life — people who want to help her out). A couple of the pairs of shoes they bought didn’t fit so they exchanged them for sizes and styles that did. It was a great little windfall for Carol and it seemed they decided to do it by way of ministry. She’s met them both through the regular Sunday worship but also at the women’s mid-week Bible study that they all attend at the church.

Anyway, prayers that these friends are, indeed, believers and are good and well-meaning, going the extra mile to help Carol out — and that there is no cause for suspicion of other possible motives (?). In the meantime, I’ll keep my ears open to see where this goes, maybe suggest we all meet for lunch at some point (although I don’t know that I’d be able to tell much from that, they sound like very socially-adept and pleasant people). But if they’re going to be involved with her on a more ongoing basis now, it probably makes sense to have a connection with me, too.

  4. Did some sleuthing, think I found the friend online based on some of the connections C mentioned to me over the months. She is one of the leaders in what’s called the Hollywood Prayer Network

    LA ENTERTAINMENT NEIGHBORHOOD PRAYER WALKS
“Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.” John Bunyan

HPN is mobilizing prayer and uniting Christians in Hollywood with our LA Entertainment Neighborhood Prayer Walks! We have sectioned off the Greater City of Los Angeles into 16 distinct “Tribes” or areas. Within each tribe there are many different types of production and even cultures. We hope to have a prayer walk group in each tribe encircling production companies, film schools, theaters, entertainment ministries, etc. with the power of prayer. We would love to see the city of LA completely covered in the prayers of the saints and growing united by the millions of people that call this city home. For those interested in becoming a prayer walk leader, read the info below the map and contact us

  5. Prayers appreciated for wisdom with my luggage, that my bags would be checked through to PNG, so no customs in Australia, and room for me on my three standby flights

  6. 🙂 We had a pool put in. There’s still a lot of work for the guys to do – building a retaining wall and the ever-popular deck around it, but we got in it this afternoon for the first time and it was great.

  7. Oh dear Jo…praying this morning that you will be in the air in no time and the rest of your trip will go smoothly…trusting the Lord knows best for your travels and His Hand is in the details ❤
I didn't get to church this morning…I just keep crying at the events of this week…I didn't want to be around people today….staying home and trying to "be still and know"….how can you be nothing but supportive, helpful, intentional in honoring a surviving parent and come away with some calling you manipulative, greedy and self serving? …..even though they never ever come around said parent nor honoring her? I am undone……

  8. Dear friend just phoned, and said she has pneumonia. She said she was coughing up blood. This is the friend I’ve gone to help because her back is injured ( that is putting it mildly – two herniated disks, a torn spinal muscle and separation of the front abdominal muscles) and she can’t lift her children. Add to that they had a rat infestation last year, and the bottom two floors have had to be ripped apart due to the damage and are only very slowly being renovated because of finances. And the problems in the marriage…

  9. NancyJill – I know how bad it hurts to have your motives & actions so grievously misinterpreted (or deliberately twisted) by family. Praying truth will out, & you will be vindicated.

  10. Thanks Karen…my Mother has a history of pitting one child against another….it’s a long story, but needless to say…she will say she is an innocent victim in the whole mess….at this point I don’t feel like trying any longer…no good deed goes unpunished…or something like that…. 😦

  11. Praying for you NancyJill. I’m so sorry.

Praying for all the other requests here, also.

And a big thank you for all your prayers, everyone, on behalf of our family. We all got to church today! — first time no one missed since three weeks ago — 4th and 6th Arrows are on the mend, praise God! Youngest started feeling much better yesterday morning, after her third dose of medicine, and today the red ring that was beginning to encircle the skin around her right eye has disappeared. So thankful her vision was not affected.

  12. Jo, so sorry — I missed the fact that you were at lax, only saw that you were stuck in an airport. Not that I could have been much help last night as we were on lockdown in my neighborhood ..
