Prayer Requests 7-2-16

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 74

¹O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.

A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.

But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.

12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.

16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtle dove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.

20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.

22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.

  1. Our waterfront coordinator had an accident yesterday while wake surfing, injuring her arm. We need every one of our lifeguards – please pray for protection for our camp, the staff and the campers this season.

  2. They have a home nurse lined up, he has been in to see grandpa, and they hope to be on the road home this afternoon. How long do you suppose it takes to drive diagonally across the country? Prayer for safety and that I would be able to hold it together until he gets home. Thanks.

  3. Carol’s friend Ben continues to be hospitalized in a psychiatric center, he is refusing to talk to his brother or Carol (going on the 3rd week now) and he refused to agree to a minor surgery the doctors wanted to perform on his shoulder last week. Not sure what the prognosis is, but it sounds like he may be kept there (or moved somewhere else long-term) for a while. Pray for his physical/mental and spiritual healing (I don’t think he is a believer, but am not entirely sure) and also for Carol as I’m sure she misses their frequent phone calls. Seems like there’s not much anyone can do but pray and wait.

  4. Thank you for the prayers regarding my prospective piano student interview. That was on Monday, and I offered the student placement on my teaching roster if they wanted one (I was not the only teacher they were checking out). The mom called today and very politely declined, stating they decided to stay local. (They don’t live in the same town I do.)

I know I would have enjoyed having the girl as a student, but I’m OK with their choosing otherwise. Thank you for your having committed the matter to prayer. I appreciate that.

  5. Fourth Arrow is having difficulty with chest pain again today. (And her bra isn’t the problem, as she’s gone without wearing one since this morning, and the pain isn’t letting up like it did on Thursday after she removed it.)

No wheezing, but she can’t take a good deep breath. I’m thinking food or airborne allergies of some sort, as she doesn’t seem to have any signs of a virus or something like that.

Prayers for wisdom as we try to figure out what to do, and for her relief. Thanks.

  6. Six, it doesn’t sound like the problem I had, but you might try it.
I used to have bad stomach pains, every afternoon they would come.
Someone suggested that I go off regular milk and get lactose free meil
I did and haven’t had a problem since.
    I am lactose intolerant.
    Worth a try.

  7. Chas, that’s a good idea. We may try that, as lactose intolerance could be an issue. We took her older sister off dairy when she started showing signs of intolerance around the age of two. Could be some heredity there.

Kare, I was thinking possible rib injury last night, too. Her pain was just slightly above the “notch” in her chest (the medical term for that, if there is one, is not coming to me right now), so I wondered if it had something to do with her rib cage.

She’s not in pain this morning anymore, though, so I’m thankful for that, although she still feels some shortness of breath.

She’s experiencing some anxiety, too, which could be exacerbating things. This normally tough, independent 15-year-old, came to me this morning, crying, asking me to stay home from church with her. Very not her.

I just sat down next to her on her bed, gave her a hug, and we both quietly cried until I could compose myself enough to reassure her that I’d stay home with her.

My mama heart hasn’t toughened up in 26 years of mothering. It still hurts to see my babies hurting.

She’s watching a movie right now, and seemed somewhat relieved when I shared with her something I just read while looking up information on what may possibly be ailing her — that chest pain and shortness of breath in female adolescents may simply be a result of uneven growth patterns.

In the study “Exercise-Induced Dyspnea and Chest Discomfort in Active Adolescent Girls,” researchers theorized that since legs often develop more quickly than torsos in young girls, lung development doesn’t catch up for several years. Under high exertion, it was found that many young female athletes were limited because their lungs had not grown to the size where they can bring in enough oxygen to keep up with the demand.

Anyway, daughter has grown quite dramatically in the last few months, and it mainly appears to be in her legs. She says when she bends down to pick something up, it’s harder to reach now, as her legs are so long and it seems her arms have not grown proportionally yet.

So that whole upper body/delayed growth thing, could be some of what is affecting her. I do think her lung capacity could be temporarily limited by that.

I’m also thinking it’s probably time for a check-up for her — she’s been very healthy for a long time, and other than a short bout with Lyme Disease seven or eight years ago, and a trip to urgent care for a sledding accident once, she hasn’t needed to see a doctor since her well-child checks as a toddler.

And I assured her that we could take her in to be seen today if that’s what she wants. So far, she’s said she’s alright with staying home.

Thank you for praying. Please continue to pray for wisdom for me as I monitor her symptoms at home, and for relief for her, in whatever form she may need.

  8. Costochondritis — inflammation of cartilage connecting ribs to the breastbone. Nothing serious (no heart or lung problems). She’s an avid reader and tends to slouch over for long periods of time while doing so, which causes problems of this sort — very common, the NP said.

She’s got some exercises and Aleve to help with the pain/inflammation.

Mom and daughter quite relieved it wasn’t anything serious. Thanks for all the prayers.

  9. From Tammy (who used to comment here) on Facebook. . .

“Hi everyone. We could use your prayers. Our Tibby Kitty (who is somewhere around 16 years old) suddenly disappeared. Since he is an inside cat only, this is quite a feat. We have looked everywhere.

    “Well, obviously not everywhere. 😦

“My fear is that 1) he’s trapped somewhere that he tried to get into and can’t get out, or (more likely) 2) he’s gone somewhere to die (although he seemed healthy enough when we saw him a day or so ago) and we won’t find him until the evidence gets overwhelming and very, very distressing.

“So, would you please pray for our cat?”

  10. Thanks, Karen. She’s doing some better tonight, and her out-of-breath feeling was more of the concern with her than the pain, which wasn’t ever too strong (except for a while after she was seen, where they did a fair amount of poking around for tender, painful spots). The Aleve she took tonight has helped take away most of that pain, and it should help her be able to take more adequate breaths, too, than she has been since yesterday.

  11. As I’ve mentioned on the daily thread recently, starting tomorrow morning, bright & too-early, 2nd Daughter & I will begin six days straight of babysitting, for a total of 60 – 62 hours. Little Guy is a sweetheart, & fairly well-behaved, but he needs a lot of attention, & talks a lot, both of which get wearing after a while. Please pray for some extra doses of patience for 2nd Dtr & me. (It would also be nice if Little Guy could sleep in on some or most of those days.) Thank you.

  12. This might be kind of an unusual request, but I could use prayers, anyone who sees this.

The beginnings of the weeks (Sundays and Mondays) usually tend to be good days for me, regarding physical and emotional stamina, but things seem to slowly deteriorate as I get further and further into the week. I lose my energy, and start to get an odd mixture of apathy and apprehension about the things I have to do. It’s hard to describe.

The worst weeks are the ones when I didn’t get to church on Sunday. And you can see from the above requests on this thread that I didn’t get to church this week.

Worship at church refreshes me, and when I miss it, that whole week is very hard — just like, or even worse than, the ending days five, six days after worship has last taken place.

I missed church three weeks ago, too, and I really made a mess of the end of that week, as it had been almost two weeks since I’d worshiped, and that is such a long time for me to go without the refreshment that corporate worship with the saints is.

I’m afraid of that happening again this week…

I would be very grateful for prayers this week. The panicky feeling is rising in me tonight, and it’s only Monday.

    Thank you.
