  1. Good morning everyone.
We woke up abut 6:00 thinking abut going to the Y. But we don’t have anything yet.
So we didn’t get up until about 6:30.
“Every man needs a reason to get up in the morning.”
There’s a Gold’s Gum about four miles away.
    We aren’t doing anything now.

  2. Hi Ann.

We had an event Saturday. I would have put it on R&R, but was busy until yesterday afternoon.
I told you before that here, we heave “his and her” bathrooms.
Seems that whoever put up the shower curtain in my bath room a week or so ago, put up a green shower curtain.
It worked well for a week.
But Saturday, one of the women noticed that the bath room was painted blue.
A GREEN SHOWER CURTAIN IN A BLUE BATHRROM!
    That had to be fixed.
It didn’t take long. And now there’s a white shower curtain in the blue bathroom.
    It works well.

  3. A good reminder from Pastor Paul to start the week about the livliness of the Bible. I like this story from the short post the best, but the whole post is in the link:

“R. C. Sproul was asked by the president of a Christian College to come and teach the Bible, adding, “We really want you to make it come alive.”

    R. C. fought back the words, “Did I miss something? Has it died? Did anyone attend the Bible’s funeral?”

  4. Good morning, y’all. I am having my first cup of coffee in two days, and it is truly a needed cup. I drank tea yesterday and it does not have the get up and do powers of coffee.

We went to our favorite cafeteria style restaurant yesterday and found out that Kroger is expanding and will take over their space. A new location is being built and current employees will be working there, but it will be under new ownership. It will change names from S & S to the Magnolia Room. Atlanta previously had a popular spot in a department store downtown know as the Magnolia Tea Room at Rich’s department store. I think maybe that is where they got the name. Many of the clientele of the S & S are older and would know the reference, but younger people and those from elsewhere would not have a clue.

  5. How is Elvera handling the move, Chas? Is she participating in any of the decisions–like the shower curtain?

When I can’t find things after I move, I try to remember where I kept them in my old house. I think about what else was in that cupboard with whatever I’m seeking.

Sometimes I can better remember where I’ve put the “companion” items in the new house and when I track those down, I often find what I’m really looking for.

Not sure if that will help you, but it did enable me to find the tripod, tape measures and other sundry items after the last move! 🙂

  6. I had an exhausting and fun weekend. It’s been very hot and I spent most of Friday afternoon and evening, plus Saturday morning, cleaning my house.

(Is it a Murphy’s law that your bi-weekly house cleaner only comes the weeks you are NOT having company?)

Following that excitement–I don’t do well in hot weather–we attended the final birthday of birthday season 2016, at a 5 year-old adorable party outdoors. Kids played in the shallow pool and shot each other with water guns.

I didn’t wear my bathing suit, so I sat in the shade . . . hurrying home at 2 to open up my (clean!) house for friends using it for a graduation party. Back to adorable party for clean up and returning to our house to attend the graduation party.

I had planned to duck away for 90 minutes and visit my colleague in the hospital with her new baby, but when you host a party at your house and you know all the guests–well, I sat outside under an umbrella drinking cold water and visiting for 5 hours instead.

After church and nursery duty on Sunday, we drove to the East Bay (90 minutes one way) to see Max McLean in a performance of “C.S. Lewis: the Reluctant Convert.”

We enjoyed it. A one-man stage production, McLean spent 70 minutes telling the story of Lewis’ conversion. He played Lewis telling his story and they used audio-visual effects very well to assist. He’s also adapted Screwtape Letters and a new production Martin Luther on Trial, due to play in NYC this fall.

The Lewis production leaves here after three days and heads to LA for a week before spending a month in Chicago. Well worth seeing if you have any interest in Lewis.

Afterwards, McLean returned to the stage for 10 minutes of Q&A. 80% of the audience stayed to listen. I’d guess most of the audience were Christians.

Today is back to real work, still hot, I’m the office for most of the week; my Our Utmost for His Highest essay deadline is Friday and I’m headed to the UCLA library that afternoon to do some research. I need, however, to figure out what I’m seeking before I get there to make the most use of my time.

A busy week, but the first one in a long time I have nothing else I’m doing outside of the house–most of the office work I can do from home. I’m looking forward to it.

So much so, I woke up at 4 to get to my computer! Ciao!

  7. I am reading a book for review, Gospel Formed, by J. A. Medders, and it brings up the thought of the attitude in which we take communion. He writes,
“Now, I’ll be fair: the New Testament says almost nothing about how to eat the meal. But c’mon—I doubt it should be so mopey. There have been times during Communion when I have wondered, ‘Where’s the body? Did I miss the casket?’ Brothers and sisters, the Lord’s Supper isn’t a lamentation over a dead guy. He is alive! Communion is a celebration.”

This made me recall a conversation I had with a lady in a former church who said taking communion always made her sad. I had never felt that way about it and was surprised to hear her say that. But I also have never heard anyone say anything quite like this author expressed.

  8. She is handling it well, Michelle.
She is arranging where to put pictures, etc. She hadn’t noticed the shower curtain before.
I need to get her a new TV. The tube type she is using doesn’t work well here.
The issue now, is what to put the new3 TV on.
Seems trivial until you consider that a new TV won’t fit in her cabinet.
    But we are adjusting.

  9. I used to have a pair of black dress shoes.
I have offloaded almost everything I brought from Hendersonville.
    Except
i can’t find my black shoes. No one laughed at me for wearing brown shoes with a black suit yesterday.

  10. I just read one of the saddest obituaries possible.

2 Chronicles 21:20 “Thirty and two years old when he (Jehoram) began to reign. And he reigned in Jerusalem eight years and departed without being desired…………”

    Think about it.

  11. Good morning everyone. I attended the wedding of one of my coworkers on Saturday. She will become an Air Force Wife and move to Illinois. The pastor read a poem he wrote for another “military” wedding. It talked about “orders from above” and even when he retires she will “still be an Air Force wife”. They also had a sand ceremony. I had seen it before but had not had it explained the way this minister did. He poured white sand into an hour glass, then the bride poured lavender sand in, the groom gold, then the minister white sand. Foundation and covering of God (white sand) the lavender and gold remaining their colors but blending all together to form a new family. Her grandfather walked her down the aisle. I don’t know when I have seen love on an old man’s face like I saw when he looked at her. They danced to What a Wonderful World.

Yesterday I did yard work. This morning I plucked two thorns out of my fingers.

  13. I danced and cried my way through Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World with my second son–who laughed and said he had requested it just for the two of us to dance to.

Maybe these kids know me better than I think they do?

Said the mother who always felt invisible as she picked up clothes, cooked dinner, drove them, etc. . . .

I will never forget driving my then 5 year old youngest to kindergarten one morning…It’s a Wonderful World played on the car radio…she sat there with the sweetest smile and sighed “that’s my most favoritest song Mom”….and at 22, she still loves that song…I have a feeling it will be played at a wedding one day….

  15. I hate shopping. And so I am on hold with Charter for new phone and internet service at the house we’re buying. You’d think a city of 19,000 people would more than two or three choices. Charter was cheapest. But the quoted price is good for 1 year then goes up $20. Does it really cost them $70 per month for us to connect to the internet and phone? Of course, we can call anywhere in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and other places “free”. But then, I can do the US on my cell phone. Ah. At least we’ll be connect in a power outage.

  16. I missed all of yesterday – I’ll have to go back and catch up. I had a 1 in 5 year migraine – 18 hours of pain and throwing up. Glad those ones don’t happen very often. I’m pretty exhausted today.

We had our future out-laws here on Saturday into Sunday – so wonderful that Justin’s future in-laws are such a Godly caring couple. We had a lot of fun visiting. She is a massage therapist and insisted on working on my injured back – what a treat!

On Sunday (migraine day) I was in bed all day but husband brought home friends we hadn’t seen for 12 years or so. I couldn’t even stick my head out of the room to say hi. I was very disappointed, but I did get to hear Clark and husband playing guitar and singing in the living room.

  17. Many times I have come here to ask you to pray for BG and few have been the times that I have bragged. Today I am bragging.
She left yesterday for 2-3 days in Hattiesburg with her boss. The company is remodeling a store and she is going to help “re-set” it with her store manager. She has that organizational gene she gets from her father’s side of the family.

  18. What’s weird is sometimes when I’m trying to remember where a particular book or something else is, I’ll get a mental picture in my mind of where it was in the former house that I rented — nearly 20 years ago now. Needless to say, that doesn’t really help me find it here!

Got up early today, trying to get back into a longer habit of devotions. Loved the Sproul quote, michelle.

I already have my lunch packed (lots of chopped up veggies and fruit today, with some plain yogurt & honey for the fruit and some tuna for the veggies).

So there is no Y where you are, Chas? You’ll establish something of a new routine there, most likely. But I hope you find a good place to exercise since you’re used to that in the mornings.

Then again, you could just get a dog to walk …

  21. Thanks for the birthday wishes! Lovely day here–more in a few days when I have photos. But I got to be outdoors with my hubby, and since he hadn’t made me a cake, we went to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream.

  22. Happy birthday, Cheryl. Ice cream is always good. 🙂

We attended a grad party on Saturday evening. The weather was bad the whole evening (lots of lightening and rain) and we were under a tent when it really looked bad. I had just asked my daughter to grab my purse, so I could check the weather, when a wind came up so fast that even the metal chairs started flipping. Someone yelled to run to the basement. I was holding the newest grandchild, since they had just gotten there. I ran to the basement with her.

We were all safe, but a window by the door we ran through was broken by a swing awning that blew over. The tent stayed up. Many children were in a bouncy house and they deflated that, so it stayed just fine.

Someone had a branch fall onto their car. Neighbors had trees blow over. One had a deck smashed by one of the trees. I have never seen a wind come up that quickly or fierce. So glad it passed over quickly and there was not more damage. I felt bad for all the party being spoiled. They did have a garage and did keep the party going there.

  23. Yikes, Kathaleena. Were those straight-line winds? They can be as damaging as some tornadoes.

A small tornado didn’t hit the area, did it? We had one very near our place about a decade ago, and while there was no damage on our property, neighbors had their big weeping willow tree split, with a large branch coming down on their truck. The tornado skipped — you could see spotty damage here and there — and one property owner maybe a mile from us had all his trees down.

  24. Mmmm, ice cream, Cheryl — sounds good. 🙂

Interview’s done. Very nice, friendly people, the young lady and her mom are. I let them know they could think about lessons for a week before deciding if they want to enroll with me. They said they’d talk it over with the girl’s dad, who wasn’t with them at the interview, and let me know.

I’m really not sure if they’ll sign up or not. I would enjoy working with the girl, who is almost 16, if they do, but I’ve prayed that the Lord’s will be done, and will accept it if they don’t.

The young lady has only been studying piano about a year, but is playing some pretty advanced music. She plays very expressively, but it is clear (to her, too, when I asked her what her goals are for piano study) that she is struggling to keep the beat as she plays.

There are some pretty serious holes in her music-reading ability, and it’s a hard fix to take a student back to the basics when she’s been allowed to play music too far beyond her ability.

I complimented her on the things she did well, like her exciting expression, and her beautiful harmonies that she improvised. Truly stunning, those things.

But, oh, how I wish her first teacher had paid attention to giving her a good rhythmic and note-reading foundation…

  25. A few weeks ago, YF shared a blog post that I mentioned here, from a “progressive Christian” writer, who claimed that rioting is a form of self-defense against the oppression (which is supposedly a form of violence) by the “privileged”. He somehow made it seem that Jesus would approve.

Within two or three weeks of posting that on Facebook, she then posted the one I shared recently, by a different “progressive Christian”, claiming that self-defense & defense of family is not biblical.

I asked her how she could reconcile those two viewpoints. She did not reply at all. (But I am praying that the Holy Spirit opens her eyes to her own bitter attitudes, & draws her to Himself.)

What those blog posts had in common was that they were railing against “conservative Christian” values, as they saw them. YF, who still considers herself a devout Christian, is so blinded by her contempt (bordering on hatred) for conservatives of any type that she can share those diametrically opposed views without thinking through what they are actually saying. If she were rather unintelligent, I could understand, but she is actually very intelligent, which is what baffles me about the lack of logic & clear thinking in the things she posts.

Anyway, I am once again asking prayer for her, that the Holy Spirit would get through to her, that God would give her a willing, teachable spirit. (Of course, I pray those things for my girls, too.) I know she is not the only one out there with those attitudes, & I pray God would bring a spirit of repentance upon this nation, & open the blind eyes.

  27. Bonne Anniversaire, Cheryl.

I’ve got a bit of a dilemma. Second sibling’s spouse needs to return to work, so she wants me to come and help. All well and good, but youngest sibling may deliver at any time, and she wants me to be present to help (my siblings say that I really do help them when they are in labour, which I’m glad that I do). Since I don’t have a car, I will have to be dropped off at second sibling’s, which means that I can’t just get into the car go and go if youngest needs me…

  29. Kathaleena – It’s been about a week since she posted that, & I knew after a couple days went by that she would not be replying. But my hope is that my question, phrased politely, not antagonistically, will have opened her eyes a bit to examine her attitudes.
