  1. The invasion continues unabated…..

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jun/17/illegal-families-surge-across-border/

“The number of illegal immigrant families jumping the border so far this fiscal year has already topped all of 2015, according to Homeland Security statistics released Friday that show the administration’s border problems continue to grow.
Some 6,788 people traveling as families were caught on the southwest border in May — a leap of more than 20 percent over April, and putting the total for the first eight months of the fiscal year at nearly 45,000.
That’s already well above the 2015 yearlong total of fewer than 40,000, though it’s short of the record pace set in 2014, when a massive surge exposed massive holes in the U.S. immigration system.
Federal and local authorities have struggled to explain the latest surge in families, but a government lawyer gave one explanation to a federal judge earlier this month, saying that the Obama administration’s own lax enforcement policies, set in part by the courts, have enticed ever more people to make the harrowing journey.
The Justice Department’s immigration-law expert even told the judge that Illegal immigrants are abducting children on their trip north, hoping to pose as families to take advantage of the lax policies.”

  2. That was the southern front, here’s the eastern….

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/06/17/obama-admin-pace-issue-one-million-green-cards-migrants-majority-muslim-countries/

“The Obama Administration is on pace to issue more than a million green cards to migrants from majority-Muslim countries, according to an analysis of Department of Homeland Security data.
A chart released by the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest Friday details the surge in immigration to the U.S. from majority-Muslim countries since President Barack Obama took office in 2009.

Specifically, in the first six fiscal years of Obama’s presidency (FY2009 – FY2014), his administration issued 832,014 green cards to migrants majority-Muslim countries, the most of which were issued to migrants from Pakistan (102,000), Iraq (102,000), Bangladesh (90,000), Iran (85,000), Egypt (56,000), and Somalia (37,000).

The total 832,014 new permanent residents do not include migrants on temporary, nonimmigrant visas — which allow foreign nationals to come to the U.S. temporarily for work, study, tourism and the like. As the subcommittee notes, the number also does not include those migrants who overstayed the terms of their visas.”

The overstays at last count was nearly a million.

  3. And just a reminder…..

    http://hotair.com/archives/2016/06/17/tony-shafer-interview/

“Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer was a member of the military intelligence operations in the early days of the war in Afghanistan and chronicled his early efforts against the Taliban and Al Qaeda following the terror attacks of 9/11 in his book, Operation Dark Heart. He is a frequent guest on cable news and has an enormous wealth of sources in the US intelligence community.

Friday morning, he joined me and co-host Brian Wilson on our morning radio program on WMAL in Washington DC to comment on CIA Director John Brennan’s remarkable testimony Thursday on Capitol Hill detailing how ISIS is targeting the refugee and open borders to infiltrate our country.

“It’s gotten so bad they can’t cover it up anymore,” Shaffer said of Brennan’s testimony which reinforces the opinions of many critics of Obama’s failed policies in the Middle East. “I think some of these guys recognize that tying their future to the White House and the complete – I’ll just say it – lies that come out of the White House is going to be detrimental to their political future,” Shaffer added.

“Brennan is finally telling the truth,” he added.

Shaffer then addressed Brennan’s testimony regarding ISIS’ attempts to breach US territory through the porous national borders and by exploiting the Obama Administration’s lax policies toward immigration and refugee migration.

“I got the percentage from one of my sources. We’re talking about, right now, in the refugee stream, between 15-17% of individuals coming through the refugee stream are ISIS. Add to that the layer of the fact that we can’t really stream these folks.”

By the way, Hillary Clinton, presumptive presidential nominee for the Democrats, is on the record saying she wants to increase the number of these refugees to the United States by as much as 500% when she becomes president.”

  4. An increase in illegal migration at the southern border is usually an indication of an improved economy. There was a negative migration in 2008-10. The current US net migration rate is 3.8 persons per 1000. In comparison Canada and Australia are at 5.6. This includes all migrants, legal or illegal, students, business, retirees etc. There’s no invasion — the US needs to adopt a more sensible immigration based on reality and not fear — allow for more legal immigration. Its obvious the free market has determined that more people are needed why is the gov’t standing in the way.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_net_migration_rate

Briebart neglects to inform us that Muslim majority nations are far below other countries on the green card list. In 2013, Pakistan at 14th place is the top Muslim country receiving green cards and accounts for only 1% of all green cards issued. Most green cards are issued to Mexicans, Chinese, and Indians. Again more needless fear.

    http://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/green-card-holders-and-legal-immigration-united-states

More fear stroking is involved in the ISIS-refugee supposed connections. For Canada, the US and Australia accepting Syrian refugees carries very little risk. These refugees usually come from UN or NGO refugee camps along the Syrian border and have been vetted and revetted. If there is any danger of an ISIS infiltration, its along the EU southeastern border. These migrants are not vetted until they arrive in Austria, Germany, Italy, Greece, etc and often have no papers.

  5. HRW, I actually like the green cards going to Mexicans, Chinese and Indians. They all have a good work ethic. I think we are getting the best and the brightest from Asia. Many are doctors and most are professionals. The per capita income of Asia immigrants is very high. The FICA taxes paid by those immigrants and their employers are paying for the Social Security Disability benefits of many native-born Americans who don’t think they can work.

I sort of agree with old Trump on Muslim immigration. It’s not that I don’t like Muslims. I do. I have found them to be conservative, polite and well-mannered. I would rather have a Muslim move next door to me than a Yankee. The problem is that when you put Muslims into the New Sodom that is currently the US or the New Gomorrah that is now Europe, a certain percentage of them are going to become radicalized.
It is probably better for Muslims to live in Muslim countries or in culturally conservative countries such as India, China or Russia.

  6. I just wish my hard working American born PhD in a science could get a job that is NOT going to someone in Silicon valley with a special H-2 permit to work in this country, “because there is no one here who can do that work.” I have a major problem with that little bit of excessive invitation–particularly when American citizens are being asked to train their counterparts for their jobs.

  7. Michelle, I don’t know anything about Silicon Valley.

I do know that in many small towns, the doctors are from India or another Asian country. No American-born doc wants to live on the income that can be earned in those small towns.

HRW is right. Immigration is an indicator or a healthy economy. How many Mexicans are sneaking into the US is only half of the equation. The key number is whether the number of immigrants is rising or falling. As we have discussed many times, there has been a net outflow of Mexicans back to Mexico since the US economy collapsed 9 years ago.

In Texas we are very practical. We use hard working Mexicans to do the jobs Americans are too lazy to take. We use Asians to do the jobs that require high intelligence. Then on Sundays, the Baptist churches have Mexican congregations and Asian congregations.

  8. Always interesting to hear cross-generational discussions of the new sexuality … Came up this week in the newsroom as some of the very earnest younger reporters tried to explain “pan” “trans” etc. to an older editor. Conversation went everywhere, with one of them explaining how she had a lesbian friend who got married but then … Well, I forget (and actually couldn’t follow) the rest of that particular tale. They were incredulous that any of this might be considered, well, odd, and you could feel the “eye rolls” without even seeing them when the editor protested otherwise.

Listening in was one of the older reporters — extremely liberal (as most reporters are, of course) but old enough to also have a common-sense filter — and he finally says, “I just stay home.” 🙂

  9. When I was training to work in the O.R., in my class was a Filipino, a Russian, and a Polish nurse, all of whom had been nurses overseas and were immigrants (the teacher was also a healthcare immigrant, from Serbia). They were in a special program which not only funded their courses, but also guaranteed their employment. I passed that course with honours, and was told by one of the O.R. upper managers in the hospital that I trained in that he wanted me to work in his O.R. I never did get a job in the O.R. My mother sometimes contrasts those immigrants with me; but I don’t. They needed the work and I was happy they had it. I have a whole network of family support in the country – they were newcomers.

Sure companies and organizations are sometimes unscrupulous about hiring cheaper foreign labour; but I blame the company/organization, not the worker who needs the work. I’m all in favour of laws which prevent exploitation of the foreign/migrant worker, but Canada’s population wouldn’t grow if it wasn’t for immigrants and we have plenty of room to grow into. The immigrant healthcare workers are the ones who voluntarily work in the Far North – a place not many nurses and doctors want to work. The descendants of the first European/British settlers in Canada – of which I’m one – have nothing to complain about. My ancestors came for the chance of a better life, pushing aside those who were already here. Then we got rich and complacent and our population and economy started to stagnate as a result. Nature abhors a vacuum, so people from higher population countries have started to move in to find opportunity, just as my ancestors did.

  10. Both the service and tech industry employ temporary work visas as opposed to finding already present residents to employ. In part, this has little to do with availability and much to do with a corporation’s ability to evade any type of societal responsibility. Temp workers are disposable workers who can be sent back once they are no longer needed or become troublesome. If foreign workers are genuinely needed (and many times they are) they should come as permanent residents. This would prevent corporations from using them as disposable workers. I suspect the demand for foreign workers would dissipate once they have the same rights as permanent residents or citizens.

I find it curious that socially conservative Christians do not ally themselves as often as they could with socially conservative Muslims. In many respects they share the same moral values and if they work together more often, the radicalization Ricky suggests may occur because of moral disgust would be minimized.

The immigrant experience and the way it effects the second generation (i.e. the first to be born in the host nation) is the impetus for radicalization not moral disgust although it may be expressed that way. Immigrants are usually happy with their experience and even when alienated from the greater North American culture, they find a community within their own immigrant cohort. Their children however are disconnected from both the immigrant community and the greater North American community. Its this alienation which provided fertile ground for radicalization.

  11. My experience with older Muslim immigrants is that they are happy to be in the relative safety of this country. They don’t like our toxic culture, but would never criticize it to an American. They are thrilled to meet Americans with conservative values.

Most second generation Muslims become somewhat Americanized. My son’s best friend in law school was such a person. He dressed like an American, went to American movies and sometimes accidentally ate pork. However, he did not drink alcohol and this was an issue that helped my son and him bond.

My son’s friend is easy going. He can make friends and associate with people who do not share his values without being offended. As HRW indicated, other second generation Muslims become radicalized. HRW, I think your idea for conservative Christians to build relationships with Muslims is a good one. A former pastor of mine has done that and even attended and publicized the recent conference in Morocco at which a group of Muslim clerics denounced terrorism.

  12. HRW – Re: Socially conservative Christians and Muslims allying. I believe there have been brief alliances – both Muslims and Christians recently protested our premier’s introduction of new material in sex-ed. However, there is a sense in which Christians and Muslims are a bit like oil and water when it comes to social policy, for three reasons:

    1) Religious difference – I’m not saying Muslims and Christians cannot respect one another’s religious freedom. They obviously can and have throughout history, especially as individuals towards other individuals. However, historically, areas of the world have tended to be dominated by either the one or the other. Their doctrinal differences cause a constant unease, as the ongoing tensions and north and south divides in African countries between the two groups testify (sadly, in recent conflicts such as those in the Central African Republic, Christians were also in the wrong). Protestants can ally themselves to Catholics and both can work with Assyrians, Orthodox and Coptics, but then all of them affirm the Nicene Creed. Muslims are monotheistic as Christians are, but their denial of Christ’s deity is the breaking point. Christ said that he would cause offense and Christians’ claim that Jesus Christ is God’s Son is, if anything, more offensive to Muslims than it is to Jews. The Jewish religion is confined largely to the Jewish people; but Islam, like Christianity, seeks to appeal to all peoples – which is probably why Jews have peacefully co-existed in the past with both Muslims and Christians (when the Muslims and Christians have allowed them too). I’m interested to see how Mormonism will interact with both as it grows worldwide, as it is a very similar dogma to Islam. My personal opinion is that Christianity has damaged itself historically by entering into competitions of national dominance with Islam and other ideologies and would be better off remembering that Christ said his kingdom was not of this world.

    2) Methods – Islam is very much about works, and Christianity is supposed to be about grace. Now there is no doubt that Christians often don’t display grace, and there are pastors who say horrible things and threaten violence against people with whom they disagree. However, the majority of thinking Christians would and did respond to events such as the tragedy in Orlando with compassion and concern. Doctrinally, Christians recognize that human beings who sin are still human beings. Now, speaking as one who has lived in a predominantly Muslim country, that is not the way Islam perceives humans who sin. I remember one of my male colleagues there remarking how a couple of his Muslim friends were explaining to him that women were evil because they tempted men to sin. Islam is very much a natural religion – it appeals to honour codes which primitive tribes developed for survival. As such, Islamic nations tend to have very harsh penalties for those who publicly violate those honour codes – private peccadillos are another matter, with the attitude that it isn’t a sin unless you are caught (again that is coming from another person who lived in a predominantly Muslim country). So, how socially conservative Muslims and socially conservative Christians would seek to solve the culture rot they perceive in the West is quite different. I do not think that things like the LGBT movement would bother Muslims at all if it were not so public.

It is an interesting topic, with many aspects. I personally believe that Christianity has weakened itself so horribly by compromising for power in the last century that is why Islam seems such a threat to it, as, indeed, does secularism. I don’t mean that it is weak because it no longer is the majority – I don’t believe there ever has been a majority of Christians in any given country at any given time; the times when there seemed to be a majority merely meant most people found it convenient to go along – but that it is weak internally, in the churches, with Christians who no longer have a strong sense of who they are. As a Christian, I do not believe Christianity itself is dying – in fact, it is growing in other regions – but its political clout in the West is waning, which is probably a good thing in the end. What follows for the West is anyone’s guess. There may well be a lot of turmoil before it all settles out again.

  13. Roscuro – Someone recently told me that they heard or read that when Muslims pray, they are really merely quoting parts of the Koran, not praying prayers. Is that true, or just a myth/rumor? Or maybe the parts of the Koran they quote are supposed to be prayers?

  14. Karen, Muslims pray both ritual and private prayers. The ritual prayers include the salah, which is the five daily prayers, and the 99 names of Allah. The salah is the one where the call to prayer is given, and they wash themselves and use the prayer mats – they quote a Quranic passage when they bow and then pray when they stand. The 99 names of Allah are done after prayers, often told on a set of beads: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misbaha. The private prayers, du’a, are done at any time – they pray for the sick, for the bereaved and the dead, and will start public meetings with prayers. Such prayers often have rote phrases, but may also be personalized.

“The gunman who slaughtered 49 people at an Orlando nightclub traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2012 with a group from New York that included 12 Muslim NYPD officers, according to reports.

Omar Mateen made the trip as part of an annual pilgrimage led by the Islamic Center at New York University, according to the Wall Street Journal.

About 80 people were on the trip for Umrah, a religious pilgrimage taken by millions of devout Muslims to Mecca and Medina.

Groups from Columbia and Yale universities, as well as about 40 people from an NYPD contingent were on the journey, the university told the newspaper in a statement.”

“A doctor who is listed on the psychological evaluation for Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen, said she did not see him and she was not even living in Florida at the time when G4S security firm ordered the evaluation.
Psychologist, Dr Carol Nudelman, who now lives in Colorado, said in a statement released through her attorneys to the Miami Herald that she never evaluated Mateen nine years ago for G4S, a security firm that was known as Wackenhut at the time.
However, Nudelman’s name appears on the document in Florida’s state records, which cleared Mateen to carry a firearm as a private security guard.
‘What I do know is that in September 2007, I was not living or working in Florida, I was not performing any work for Wackenhut, and I did not administer any type of examination to Omar Mateen,’ Nudelman said in the statement.
The G4S security firm has been under fire after it was revealed that they concluded that allegations about his inflammatory comments while an armed guard in 2013 were serious enough to transfer him to an unarmed position, according to NBC News.
The company called the discrepancy a ‘clerical error’ and said that Mateen, who was a G4S employee for 9 years, had been evaluated by a different psychologist.
G4S has had a series of problems occur in the past with former employees and later it was revealed that the company hadn’t properly vetted a man, who shot and killed two coworkers while on a security detail in Iraq, according to the Herald.”

  17. The myth of the “lone wolf terrorist.”

    http://nypost.com/2016/06/18/why-the-lone-wolf-terrorist-is-a-myth/

“President Obama says don’t worry, the Orlando terrorist was just another “lone actor” operating in isolation, unconnected to any larger group of supporters. In fact, these so-called “lone wolves” are running in packs, and suggesting otherwise gives the public a false sense of security.

Yet Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson echoed Obama, saying Omar Mateen was “self-radicalized” without any religious, ideological or operational support from friends, family or others in the Muslim community.

“What we do know at this point is it appears this was a case of self-radicalization,” Johnson said. “He does not appear to have been part of any group.”

A more accurate picture is that Mateen, an Afghan-American, was part of a disturbingly large Muslim family of sympathizers, supporters and even co-conspirators.

For starters, his wife could face criminal charges in the attack on the gay Orlando nightclub, the deadliest act of terrorism in the US since 9/11. Noor Zahi Salman, who wed Mateen in 2011, reportedly told the FBI she knew about her husband’s planned attack and even drove him to the site of the massacre as part of a scouting operation. She also is said to have helped him case the Disney Springs shopping complex. What’s more, Salman allegedly was with Mateen when he bought ammo and a holster used in the attack.”

And if they know how to behave so well, why is their country a cesspool of official, police, and gang corruption?

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/09/16/crime-wave-elusive-data-shows-frightening-toll-illegal-immigrant-criminals.html

“FoxNews.com did review reports from immigration reform groups and various government agencies, including the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Sentencing Commission, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Government Accountability Office, the Bureau of Justice Statistics and several state and county correctional departments. Statistics show the estimated 11.7 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. account for 13.6 percent of all offenders sentenced for crimes committed in the U.S. Twelve percent of murder sentences, 20 percent of kidnapping sentences and 16 percent of drug trafficking sentences are meted out to illegal immigrants.

There are approximately 2.1 million legal or illegal immigrants with criminal convictions living free or behind bars in the U.S., according to ICE’s Secure Communities office. Each year, about 900,000 legal and illegal immigrants are arrested, and 700,000 are released from jail, prison, or probation. ICE estimates that there are more than 1.2 million criminal aliens at large in the U.S.

In the most recent figures available, a Government Accountability Office report titled, “Criminal Alien Statistics,” found there were 55,000 illegal immigrants in federal prison and 296,000 in state and local lockups in 2011. Experts agree those figures have almost certainly risen, although executive orders from the Obama administration may have changed the status of thousands who previously would have been counted as illegal immigrants.

Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrant criminals are being deported. In 2014, ICE removed 315,943 criminal illegal immigrants nationwide, 85 percent of whom had previously been convicted of a criminal offense. But that same year, ICE released onto U.S. streets another 30,558 criminal illegal immigrants with a combined 79,059 criminal convictions including 86 homicides, 186 kidnappings, and thousands of sexual assaults, domestic violence assaults and DUIs, Vaughan said. As of August, ICE had already released at least 10,246 criminal aliens.”

Miller, though, is not from London or Liverpool. He hails from Longview, Texas, and we are talking in a cafe in the bleakly industrial Gulf coast town of Port Arthur, some 5,000 miles from Westminster.

Culturally, too, we are a long way from Europe. Heck, we are even a long way from Dallas. But the referendum matters deeply to Miller and like-minded Texans. As the president of the Texas Nationalist Movement, which wants Texas to secede from the United States, he is hoping for a Leave vote that he believes will ripple all the way from Austria to Austin.

“There are a lot of people asking, if Brexit why not Texit?” he says. “I do talk with some folks over there on a pretty regular basis that are involved in Ukip and the Conservative party.”

The night before we met, Miller addressed a local Tea Party group, drawing parallels between Brexit and Texit, which the TNM is pushing as a hashtag. In Miller’s telling, Britain’s relationship with Europe was a marriage of convenience between ill-suited partners that has become stormy and ripe for divorce on grounds of irreconcilable differences, with too much sovereignty ceded to an ineffective central bureaucracy and too much hard-earned money sent elsewhere.”

We played and performed Christian skits and music in their public parks well into the evening? Would we have felt as safe in Detroit, or Gary, or Philadelphia, or Brooklyn, or East St. Louis or Cleveland, or Newark, or Camden or the south side of Chicago?

In Texas we now have millions of Mexican immigrants and millions of Yankee immigrants.

    1. If someone sues the school board to keep Christmas songs from being sung by the school choir, will it be a Mexican family? No. It is always a Yankee.

    2. If someone holds a party and serves alcohol to minors, will it be the Mexicans? No, again that is a Yankee activity.

    3. Do Mexicans sue schools claiming their poorly-raised children have some made-up psychological problem that requires the expenditure of tens of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money? Again, that is done by Yankees.

    4. Do Mexicans raise a ruckus if their child isn’t allowed to bring a same-sex date to the prom? Only if they have been trained by Yankees.

    5. If you need help loading a trailer or fixing your truck, be sure and call on a Mexican.

I am not saying all Yankees are bad and all Mexicans are good. I like most of our Yankees. Those Yankee immigrants are constantly talking about how our culture is so much better than the one they left in Michigan or New Jersey or Illinois. The good Yankees also love our Mexicans. They can’t help but compare the work ethic of our Mexicans to the loaf ethic of the lower class Yankees back in their home states.

That is the reason I will probably root for Trump though I would never vote for him. I could see a President Trump wrecking the economy and further dividing the country. In such a case, I would actually expect the West Coast and New England to try to secede first.
Once that happened, Texas would have two good options:

    1. (My preference) Take advantage of the new precedent and form a second independent Republic of Texas.

    2. (The preference of many of my friends) Follow the precedent set by Lincoln and brutally crush the rebellion with great destruction.

His retirement would have a substantial impact on control of the court. The next president is expected to immediately replace the seat opened by the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, providing a one-vote edge in the court that is currently divided 4-4.

Should Thomas leave, that slight majority would continue if Donald Trump becomes president. If it’s Hillary Clinton, then she would get the chance to flip two Republican seats, giving the liberals a 6-3 majority. …
