  1. Good morning! Oh, what cuteness and beauty in those pictures, NancyJill. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Bird lovers: yesterday was only the third time we saw the beautiful scarlet tanager in our yard. First time was in 2003, and the second time, 2008. So it’s been a long while. Those birds are so bright and gorgeous. We only saw the male yesterday and the first time, but saw both male and female in 2008.

Wish they’d show up here more often, but it sure is a delight when they do. 🙂

  2. I had formatted it for ‘web large” before I sent it to you. I just sent several to you for you to decide. I did not change anything about them so you should be able to manipulate them the way they need to be for the blog. It is coming from myfullname at gmail.com

  3. I saw the dogs and thought, “Nancy Jill!” And the trees and grass, and thought the same. And the iris and remembered she had said hers was just ready. Nice picture.

  4. Irises are among my favorite flowers. The real ones won’t grow here but I have African Iris which are commonly known here as swamp iris. I also have something called Walking Iris.

  5. Such a stealthy dog too. 🙂

You can barely see her hidden behind the Iris. 🙂

I believe NancyJill said their names were Lullah and Fly. Good lookin’ dogs.

  6. Indeed, Aj. No doubt the problem was between the chair and the computer. 😀
Although, this computer has been doing some ‘strange’ things. I need grandchildren who live closer. 😉

  7. Peter, I was meaning to ask if it was just my silly phone/tablet antics or if others were having problems with getting WORLD. I got a message about their security certificate being out of date and how it would be hazardous to connect with them.

  8. Once in a while I can read World but normally, it asks for a password and I don’t know mine. And I do get tired of asking. So, because we have subscribed for twenty some years, I read the mag, though it does not have everything and I do enjoy reading folks comments.

  9. On the prayer thread, I asked for prayer for little Dakotah, who is having smile surgery today (which I briefly explained).

When I was 15, we found out that this facial paralysis I had is called Moebius Syndrome. Before that, we didn’t have a name for it, or know anything about it. The way we found out was that my best friend read a story in the paper about a girl with Moebius who had smile surgery. The description of the way it affected her was just like me. Gave me goosebumps!

We went to a neurologist for an actual diagnosis, & to talk about smile surgery (which would only be needed for one side of my face). We were moving forward with plans to have it done, & I thought that was going to be the answer to all my problems. No one would make fun of me anymore, & I would be happy. And maybe pretty! (And I thought that somehow being happy & not being teased or bullied would help me lose weight, because I’d have less emotional stress.)

At one meeting with the neurologist, however, he said he did not feel comfortable with doing the procedure (which was still new at that time), as it would pass too close to the optic nerve. He was afraid the surgery could do more damage. (There is a Dr. Zukor in Canada who is kind of famous for doing these surgeries for years. I think he even pioneered it. But this doctor didn’t have that experience.)

I was depressed for a while, but eventually accepted it, moved on, & got over it. I have not regretted not having the smile surgery.

But recently, reading the stories of those who have, & thinking how neat it would be to have a full smile, I have kind of wistfully thought of it. Not that I would do it at this point in my life, though.

I wonder if my lack of a good smile is why I so appreciate a beautiful smile in someone else. My daughters each have their own beautiful smiles that make me happy. Of course, Forrest does, too, & Lee has a great smile that lights up his face when he’s really happy.

But I am grateful for the half-smile that I have, & that I have some expression on the left side of my face.

  10. Home from work…finally! It’s been a long day and I come home to see my dogs on the blog! That is Fly with the flower hat on…and Lulah is laying out in the yard. I took the photo and had to laugh when I saw that the iris appeared to be on Fly’s head! That is taken in the front of the house…and the dogs do really well staying on our property…although I never just let them out alone. We don’t have an electric fence or anything…and we do have lots of porcupines and skunks roaming about the property….and coyotes.

  11. Looking at the photos after Dakotah’s surgery, it looks like the incisions go right in front of the ear & down, & from under the ear, down along the jawline.

  12. Thanks, Kevin. I was just getting the link without “World” in it when I clicked the link in my favorites, and getting the same security message Janice was getting.. And I was on my Kindle, which made it harder to figure out. (Plus I was at the cave “working”, but not having anything do at that moment.)
