  1. Good morning everyone. It was a busy day yesterday. Travel to Greensboro with a trucklosd of stuff, closing on a house, unloading “stuff” and coming home. A long day. Glad it’s over.
    Friday will be worse.
    That’s when we move.,

  2. Good morning Chas and all. The stormy weather here made the temperature sweeter, but the humidity is almost splashing.

Michelle I did not check out your website because I view it fairly frequently from being on your email list. You have a wonderful site and blog rich with content. I have not had any troubles with it. I hope you get any problems worked out.

I have plans to work on my website and blog again soon. I really got off track last fall with all the health issues we have dealt with. I need more resilience when troubles hit. I have not had much in the way of a support system. My friend, Ksren and I were discussing such things yesterday. They do not have anyone to call on besides me and their daughter. I have my brother who is an hour away.

  3. Thanks for the info on shoes\sandals yesterday. I was unfamiliar with that Bernie brand. They are beautiful and get good reviews for comfort. Also, I have considered getting away from open toed sandals since my toenails are never manicured. I have not completely decided on that yet.

  4. Janice! I am shocked!
I think those shoes are rather cute. I know you can get some lije them that are less expensive because I have heard at least two of the women at the office talking about them.

Chas the thought of packing and moving is overwhelming. I think right now I would rather do almost anything than that.

  5. I just got a text photo of one of the cats that son is looking after while a friend travels. Ha! Soon I will be keeping up with three cats more while my friends travel. I have never ever dealt with the litter box needs of four cats in one week♡ That will be a big challenge.

  6. Good Morning Miss Bosley…what big eyes you have!
It’s going to be a warm one around here…if it is 88 in the forest, that means it will be 10 degrees hotter in town…I’m staying in the forest..well except for this morning to have coffee with a neighbor in Monument….
Praying for you and Elvera, Chas….may He prepare the way before you and bring peace, comfort and joy to you in your new destination…. ❤

Must add your neighborhood to my places to visit again list! 🙂

  8. Janice – I recently bought a pair of Teva sandals. They were originally $80, but on sale for $60. I am the kind that usually goes to Payless & hates paying over $20 for a pair of shoes or sandals.

BUT. . . I have wide feet, & a high instep, so paying more for a comfortable & good-quality pair is worth it. I had a pair of Columbia sandals from several years ago that had Velcro at the ankle strap & at the toe area. They also had arch support, & were incredibly comfortable. But they were rather clunky-looking, so I wore a prettier, but less comfortable, pair when we went out anywhere.

They were, however, great for hanging out in the yard with Forrest. They lasted for several years, but were finally falling apart.

So we went to the store where we’d bought them years earlier to look for something similar. The Teva pair we found also has the Velcro adjustable straps at the toe & ankle areas, & the arch support. They are so comfortable, & much more attractive than the Columbia ones, & I have no problem wearing them in public, even to church. I’ll try to find a link to the pair I bought.

  9. I have a few ultra liberal people in my life. Some of them are quite condescending. Usually I do not argue with them. What’s the point? Last night one of them posted a photo of Timothy McVeigh as an example of a white, male, CHRISTIAN, domestic terrorist. Someone else responded that all we really knew was that he was white and male. I said something about doubting he was a Christian. Her response was that she had researched it and he was raised a Catholic. Well boy howdie doesn’t that just make him a CHRISTIAN terrorist???????
My response was “So what? I was raised in a Methodist Church (the school I attended) and that didn’t make me a Christian”. There has been silence ever since. It isn’t often you can shut a liberal up, but I am feeling quite smug this morning.

  10. I had to buy hiking/rafting sandals. They recommended Chacos. The women’s size 8 were $105 at the outlet but the children’s size 6 were $55. Just a little insider knowledge on shoes. Ask if your shoe size corresponds to a children’s size and you can sometimes pay less.
The Chacos? It took some getting used to. My arch isn’t where every shoe manufacturer thinks it should be, but once I did, I found them to be quite comfortable and I may even continue to wear them occasionally!

  11. Here they are. I got them in black/grey, which looks better, I think, than the color they show. Also, I think they look cuter on me in real life than they look in the picture.

I would love to be able to wear more feminine-looking shoes & sandals, but comfort has become my priority. But I still like to get something that is comfortable but not too clunky.

  12. Kim – My feet are definitely too big to fit any children’s size. 🙂

As for what you wrote about your liberal friend’s comment, did you see what I commented on the news thread last night?

“Have you all noticed (of course you have – silly question) that liberals & the media will fall all over themselves to say that Muslims’ bad actions are not connected to “real” Islam, but when someone with even a tenuous connection to Christianity does something wrong, their actions are indeed blamed on Christianity?

“Of course, we are to expect such inconsistency & disconnect. They hated Jesus first, & we belong to Him. (It’s still frustrating to see it, though.)”

  13. Sandals — my friend Carol has very large feet (size 13 or 16, I can’t remember which, she usually has to buy men’s shoes) so she usually just wears running shoes from Big 5. Lately she’s taken the laces out as her feet have become so regularly swollen.

When I was talking to her last weekend on the phone, she mentioned that she decided to cut the tops off them so she could have ‘sandals.’ But it didn’t work too well, her toes were now hitting the sidewalk.

Apparently a couple of her friends from the church she’s attending (Hollywood Pres — Carol had worn her new ‘sandals’ to church on Sunday) visited her, unannounced, on Wednesday & brought over 4 pairs of shoes for her to try, including some (actual) sandals. Only one pair fit, but they were taking the others back to see if they could find other sizes, longer velcro straps, etc. What a nice thing to do.

So hopefully Carol will have actual sandals she can wear this summer, at least around where she lives if not for outings.

  14. And so the battle continues. I try to make pleasant garden areas around the place and the cat continues to think I am putting them together for his restroom needs. Along the walkway to the house, the walkway is covered by the second story of the pole building and thus the little strip of shade garden is as well, I have tried to develop a nice shade garden. Ferns, astilbe, Lily of the Valley, bleeding heart, etc. And the cat continues to dig them up and do his business in them. So I fenced it with fine mesh. He still went in. I covered it with fine mesh and wired it all together. He still went in. I covered it all with bird netting. He still went in. I put foul smelling things in there. He still went in. I set mouse traps and set them around the plants. He still went in (set one of them off but is not acting like he caught a paw). So today, I took some of the red rock the neighbor had given me (she is tired of it) and put that around. Hoping he will not like digging in lava rock. Cats. Why do I even have a cat? He kills birds. I love birds. He did kill a couple of weasels and some snakes. He makes my children happy. He can stay. The battle continues.

  15. Janice, a headicure is called a haircut 🙂
I splurge on having my toenails painted at a salon over the summer. If you just get a color-change and not the full pedi (which I couldn’t STAND anyhow, since I hate being touched by strangers), it’s not very expensive. I always get French, which is a little dressy and matches everything.

  16. My feet belong in tennis shoes, running shoes, slippers, or work boots. Not sandals. It is probably against the law for my toes to be seen in sandals. Besides, I tend to get stickers and stuff in my toes and I do not like that.

I currently have a pale blue. It’s different and since I have been getting out of my comfort zone I let BG pick my toe nail color.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE a pedicure. It is like $25 worth of therapy. I have often said as long as you were messing with my feet you could cut my head off and I wouldn’t care. I think it can be traced to getting splinters in my feet on my grandparents hard wood floors and my grandfather gently scraping his pocket knife gently over my feet until the splinter came out.

  18. I buy Tevas or Keens and while pricey, they last for years.

I can’t bring myself to throw away the Keens I bought at REI sale for $20 6 years ago, but they still feel okay and can take a 4 mile hike.

They’ve been replaced but I love them that much.

  19. I have Keens hiking shoes which I love, they’re a few years old and still in great shape. Got them on sale also at REI.

Still like Birkenstock sandals, a little clunky looking (some styles aren’t, though) — but so comfortable for walking.

Doing a fun story (on a local waterfront seafood restaurant, Italian family-run, wildly successful after starting out from a couple of ice chests) for the weekend, just got back from the first interview.

  23. The question is not if someone IS a Muslim or a Christian, but did what he was taught and was what he believes the basis for what he did? Liberals will tell you everyone who has done anything awful: Hitler, Stalin etc. were ALL Christians. The thorn in my flesh also posted the McVeigh meme. I ignored it, since it makes no sense to talk to someone who has no interest in anything you have to say.

  25. Thanks for the prayers last night for 1st Arrow’s safety in getting to work. He made it there, and back home again this morning, safely.

I had to chuckle at my husband last night as we drove the last leg of our journey home. It was pouring buckets the last 3 miles or so, and hubby, while continuing to drive down the almost invisible highway, was excitedly gushing, “I think this is the worst rainstorm I’ve ever driven in. This is so cool!”

LOL! He did pull into a parking lot when visibility was bad in the unfamiliar town where we meant to stay last night, but it was “cool” to be driving a familiar highway (which he knows like the back of his hand) under similar circumstances.

Guys and their idea of fun!

I will admit, though, that, in a way, it was sort of an exciting adventure. 🙂 His confidence and enjoyment of the experience helped me sorta/kinda enjoy the ride, too.

A memorable anniversary, even if it didn’t go like planned. (Maybe those are the most notable ones.) 🙂

  26. When we had a puppy when I was a child, my mom said we were going to train her not to lick. I thought that sounded difficult, but she said just pull your hand away when she licks you. Sure enough, it was as easy as that, and I did it with Misten too.

Funny thing about Misten, though–periodically she will meet someone who loves it when dogs lick them, and she always knows it, and never gets it wrong. When she was a puppy, for example, the first time I took her to the vet, he spent several minutes just petting her and sweet talking her and letting her lick him all over–and as long as I lived in Nashville, she adored that vet, no matter what he did to her. (Twice we saw a woman vet in the same office, and that was a different story. She wasn’t nice to Misten, and Misten didn’t trust her. First time Misten saw her, Misten was a few months old and had been vomiting all night. So this vet walked in the room and without so much as a word to Misten or letting Misten smell her hand, she jammed a thermometer up Misten’s rear . . . and Misten promptly wet all over the floor. In the same visit she said something about collies not being very smart, because there isn’t much room in that head for a brain. Honestly I should have reported her; instead I just made sure we didn’t see her again.) She was maybe nine months old when a relative of an in-law asked me to keep their dog for a few days, and he came over with his wife for the dogs to meet each other. Well, he got down on the floor (on all fours) and Misten crawled around under him, going on her back to lick his face and in general making an utter giddy fool of herself. In the dog park, occasionally she would jump on someone and lick their face, and I’d express “Oh, I’m so sorry!” and they’d say “Oh, I adore it! All six of my dogs lick my face, and I love it.” But I can sit nose to nose with Misten, looking her in the eye with our noses all but touching, and she will not lick my face. One time a friend of mine was doing that, and petting Misten, and remarking she usually doesn’t like to get that close to a dog because they want to lick you, but she just adored Misten. And Misten adored her right back, but she knew not to attempt face licking. (She has licked my hand a time or two on very rare occasions, every few years, but never attempted to lick my face.)

  27. Donna, when Misten was a tiny puppy, just a couple of weeks old, the breeder sent individual photos of each of the ten puppies to those of us signed up to choose a pup. And every one of the puppies looked as wet from being licked as that cat at the end. I was amazed one mama dog could do such a thorough job.

  28. Mumsee, I have a friend with a similar cat problem. She solved it by cutting cactus limbs and placing them in the spots the cats like to frequent. Plants continue to grow, but not friendly to cats.

The only critter that licks here is the milk cow. She is so bad, that young son will not let her head get near him. She is very gentle. I’m sure she is after the salt on our skin.

I always wear sandals unless there is snow on the ground. No pedicures going on here. My feet need to breathe. I once went on a date and the gentleman asked me why my toenails weren’t painted. I replied that it never occurred to me to even think of painting them. That was my only date with him! My fingernails are not painted either. I am just happy they are clean!

  30. I don’t paint my nails at all anymore — haven’t for decades, as I was never coordinated enough to paint them evenly and without getting some on my skin in the process. And anyway, I keep my nails short since I’m a pianist and string player, and nail polish looks better on long nails than short, IMO.

I don’t ever remember painting my toenails. Or maybe I did once or twice. My opinion is why call attention to my big feet with a splash of color on the nails? I’d rather go au naturel.

I don’t wear any makeup anymore either. It’s an unnecessary expense for me to buy it, and I like the feel of no makeup on much better than when wearing it.

No more earrings for me, either, though I sort of went that route by default. I stopped bothering with wearing much jewelry after quitting school teaching to be home with the babies. Now I’ve discovered that the holes in my ears are for all practical purposes closed. I can see where they were pierced, but can hardly get earrings through the front of the hole, much less all the way through to the back.

Not sure I’m going to get them re-pierced. My hair mostly covers them up, anyway, as I don’t ever pull my hair back or up.

  31. I pass on the being licked because it just seems germy. Probaby reminds me too much of the boy in first grade who wiped boogers on classmates. I felt traumatized, LOL. Once in awhile Miss Bosley might be doing her kitty bath thing and give me an accidental overreach and swipe my arm or hand if she is nearby. It is an occasion to get to the sink to clean the spot.

Art is the only one who has given me a foot massage.

One is a close toe black sandal by Earth shoes, and another is by Bernie M as suggested by Kim, but I need to determine if I can do a platform wedge. I may go try some on before ordering to see how they do. They call it a polka dot shoe. It is black and white woven. I wear a good bit of black and white so I think it would work well color wise. I saw another Earth sandal in a white flat that I like, too. They all have at least a closure band around the back of the heel.

  34. I’ve always found it interesting how many women paint their toenails but don’t paint their fingernails. It seems to me like if you just painted one, it would be the fingernails. Me, I’ve never painted either, except that I was in a wedding once where the bride handed me nail polish, and I put it on. Someone expressed shock that I was putting it on, but my response was it was the bride’s decision. She also gave me clip-on earrings, since my ears weren’t pierced (and boy, did my ears hurt after a few hours; I think they still hurt a few days later, and of course the earrings went in the trash).

  36. There have been discussions on here recently about inbox-zero and such things, which I don’t understand. I recently deleted about 300 emails I knew I didn’t need anymore, but I still have over 3800 emails in my “Inbox” folder, and 1,199 emails currently in my “Sent” folder. I don’t know how to get them out of there, other than deleting them manually.

All my emails have been opened, so does that mean I’ve achieved inbox-zero because I’ve got zero unread emails? Or does the term refer (as I think it does) to having nothing in my general inbox because it’s all been filed away in specific folders?

I’ve tried creating my own folders, following instructions I’ve seen online, and even in my email provider’s page describing how to make folders, but I have not been successful with even what seems like the simplest of instructions for doing it.

    I am hopelessly non-technical.

That’s why parents are not doing their kids any favors by keeping them out of the dirt & such. Obviously, some germs are definitely to be avoided, but I wouldn’t be worried by being licked by a dog or a cat, as long as one has generally good hygiene.

  42. Karen, germs may sometimes be good for you, but you can get worms from a dog or cat licking your face, which would be reason enough to say no if I needed anything beyond “it’s gross.”

BTW, I did paint my fingernails with clear polish once, after we were married, just in case my husband liked them shiny. But I think he didn’t notice, and my perspective has always been that fingernails are primarily tools, not decoration, and polish hinders their use as tools. I keep them long enough to be feminine, but I don’t polish them. Works for me.
